CES 2026: Progression of autonomous technologies and AI applications
Exhibitors highlight new ADAS functions, robotaxis, robotic applications, and AI solutions
Summary
CES 2026 took place in Las Vegas, Nevada, U.S. from January 6 through January 9, 2026 across multiple venues. In terms of attendance, it was the largest post-pandemic CES with more than 148,000 attendees, representing an increase of 4% over 2025, though falling short of the record of 184,000 set in 2017.
As the prevalence of AI continues to grow, various automotive exhibitors at CES 2026 highlighted autonomous and AI applications. BMW's iX3 featured Qualcomm's Snapdragon Ride Pilot, enabling various assisted driving functions. Geely officially unveiled its G-ASD intelligent driving system, capable of supporting SAE Level 3 autonomous operations.
Tensor, a new entrant into the automotive industry, showcased a SAE Level 4 autonomous robotaxi for private ownership in the Tensor RoboCar after its initial announcement in August 2025. Waymo and Zoox displayed the robotaxis used in operations and showcased their pilot and deployment projects.
Another theme at CES 2026 was automotive diversification into robotics applications. Hyundai's exhibit focused on its partnership with Boston Dynamics to show current robotic applications. HL and Schaeffler highlighted their efforts in expanding their portfolio into robotics. Finally, Sonatus displayed various demonstrations of AI-based applications. Sonatus showcased multiple applications of its AI solutions, demonstrating enhanced data collection and OTA feature implementation capabilities.
