In 2023, total motorcycle production in the world's major countries is expected to be at the 57 million-unit level (estimated from the statistics of each country). Global demand for motorcycles in 2023 increased by 0.1% year-over-year (y/y) to 49.40 million units (Yamaha Motor Co., Ltd. data). Sales in Asia grew 1.4% y/y to 35.81 million units, accounting for 72.5% of total demand.
India's motorcycle production grew by 10.3% y/y to 21.47 million units, while sales grew by 13.3% to 17.97 million units, representing double-digit growth. Sales of electric motorcycles have reached a 1 million units per year level. Ola Electric Mobility Ltd. (Ola Electric), the industry leader, will go public in August 2024 and use the funds to strengthen its battery development and production.
China's motorcycle production and sales volumes totaled 17.02 million and 16.6 million units, respectively (both figures include exports). Yadea Technology Group Co., Ltd. (Yadea), an electric motorcycle manufacturer, has made great strides to become the leading manufacturer and is developing overseas markets, especially in Southeast Asia.
