Summary



 Shanghai Motor Show 2011 (Auto Shanghai 2011) was held in Shanghai from April 21st to 28th, 2011 (Press days: April 19th and 20th).

 The following is a summary of reports on the exhibition of 55 new models to be launched from April 2011 to 2013 by six major state-owned OEMs in China - SAIC (Shanghai Motor Corp.), DFM (Dongfeng Motor Corp.), FAW (China FAW Group), CHANA (Changan Automobile Group), BAIC (Beijing Automotive Group), and GAC (Guangzhou Automobile Group).

 Details are reported of 26 new energy vehicles (including 3 PHEVs, 10 HEVs including Micro HEV, and 13 EVs), and 29 other new production vehicles.

 The Roewe new 750 hybrid is a HEV sedan developed based on the 2010-model-year Roewe 750 1.8T. 4865/1765/1422 with a wheelbase of 2849mm. The max. speed is 205km/h. The max. cruising range is more than 500km. The fuel economy is 5.6L/100km at 90km/h (improved by 20.5% from the same-type base model). It is scheduled to be launched in 2011.
 The model comes with a 3rd-generation 1.8L Kavachi high-pressure turbo aluminum engine (max. output 118kW/5500rpm, max. torque 215Nm/2500-4500rpm), a BSG motor (max. output 20kW/max. torque 160Nm) for HEV drive mode, SAIC's unique power unit "PowerBox" (details unknown), and a 5-speed AT (with Triple-Mode- economy/sports/snowy road).
Roewe 350 EV  The Roewe 350 EV is a midsize EV sedan developed based on the Roewe 350. 4521/1788/1492 with a wheelbase of 2650mm. The vehicle weight is 1447kg. The max. speed is 150km/h. The cruising range is up to 150km. It takes 30 minutes to charge the battery to 80% and six to eight hours to fully charge it. It was chosen as a model for the EXPO 2010 Shanghai China and its test run began. It is planned to be officially launched in October 2012.
 The model comes with a lithium-ion iron phosphate battery (320V/18kWh. weight more than 200kg) made at a joint venture plant in Shanghai with the US-based A123 Systems and a drive permanent magnet synchronous motor made in-house (max. output 65kW/max. torque 310Nm).
Roewe 550 PHEV  The Roewe 550 PHEV is a PHEV sedan that is developed based on the Roewe 550 (1.8T AT model). 4648/1788/1492 with a wheelbase of 2705mm. The vehicle weight is 1698kg. The max. speed is 175km/h. The cruising range is up to 500km (up to 50km/full-charge in EV mode). The fuel economy is 2.7L/100km (improved by more than 50% compared to the same-type base model). It has multiple drive modes including EV/series/parallel/engine. It is planned to be launched in 2012.
 The model comes with an ISG motor (rated output 25kW), a TM drive motor (rated output 50kW), a drive secondary battery (294V/40Ah), a 1.5L VCT gasoline engine, and a transmission jointly developed with Shanghai Jieneng Automotive Technology, which is under its umbrella, and SAIC Automotive Transmission.

Roewe W5  Debut. The Roewe W5 is Roewe's first SUV (5-seat, 4WD, global car). It is developed based on SsangYong's Kyron platform. 4676/1888/1765 with a wheelbase of 2740mm. It is scheduled to be launched in May 2011 (selling price 170,000-300,000 RMB).
 The model comes with a 1.8L Kavachi turbo engine (max. output 118kW/max. torque 215Nm) and 5-speed MT/6-speed AT (Tiptronic), or a 3.2L Tornado XGi high-performance engine (max. output 162kW/max. torque 310Nm) and a 5-speed AT (Tiptronic).
MG 5  Debut. The MG5 is a concept car (4WD) of a mass-produced hatchback. It uses the same platform as the Roewe 350. The wheelbase is 2740mm. Its body adopts high-strength reclaimed hydrated fly ash (HFA). Its production model is planned to be launched in June 2012 (selling price: about 90,000-130,000 RMB).

Baojun 630  The Baojun 630 is SAIC-GM-Wuling Automobile's first model (sedan) under its own brand - Baojun. SAIC and GM jointly developed the model based on the platform of the Buick Excelle. 4597/1736/1462 with a wheelbase of 2640mm. The fuel economy is 6.9L/100km. It will be launched as early as in June 2011 (selling price: about 70,000-90,000 RMB). The company will prepare 300 dealers by the end of 2011.
 The model comes with a gasoline engine, 1.5L P-TEC DOHC-type/VVT-type (max. output 81kW/max. torque 146Nm)/1.8L ECOTEC DVVT-type (max. output 108kW/max. torque 177Nm), and a 5-speed MT/6-speed AT.

Maxus V80  Debut. The Maxus V80 is a global light van under "Maxus" commercial vehicle brand which the company independently developed based on the models of the UK-based LDV, which it had acquired. The Wuxi plant in Jiangsu prov. produces the model. It is scheduled to be launched in the second half of 2011.
 There are two series - a short-wheelbase series (5 to 13-seat) of 4950/1991/2070 (2315) with a wheelbase of 3100mm and a long-wheelbase series (5 to 16-seat) of 5700/1991/2315 (2540) with a wheelbase of 3850mm.
 The model adopts a full monocoque body and a slide door. The power system consists of a 2.5L Eco-D TDCi-type VM Motori diesel-powered engine with turbo (rated output 88kW/max. output 100kW) and a 5-/6-speed MT.

 The Dongfeng Tianyi EV is an EV version of a commercial light van that is developed based on the body of Dongfeng Liuzhou Automobile's "Future". 5115/1720/1960 with a wheelbase of 3000mm. The weight of the vehicle body is 2160kg. The gross vehicle weight is 3000kg. The max. speed is 95km/h. The cruising range is up to 140-150km. It takes 2.5 hours to fully charge the battery on a standard power source. The Dongfeng Xiangfan Van plant produces the model. Its test run began in September 2010.
 The model is equipped with an in-vehicle terminal, GPRS wireless telecommunications network, internet, and a distant monitoring system.
 The model comes with a lithium-ion iron phosphate battery (rated voltage/capacity 384V/100Ah), which is supplied by Sky Energy (Luoyang)/Zhejiang GBS Energy, a water-cooled permanent magnet synchronous brushless DC motor (rated output 40kW/max. output 65kW), and a regenerative brake.

It is scheduled to be launched as early as in the second half of 2011 (selling price: less than 200,000 RMB).
 The model comes with Nissan 3.0L ZD30H14-3N-type engine (max. output 100kW/140 ps, max. torque 300Nm) made by Dongfeng Engine and a 6-speed transmission.

Jingyi Cross  Debut. The Jingyi Cross is a crossover that integrates the functions of a large hatchback and an SUV (development code "B20"). 4320/1804/1620 with a wheelbase of 2685mm. It comes with a 1.8L 4G93-type VVT engine (max. output 105kW/max. torque 170Nm) supplied by Shenyang Mitsubishi Motor Engine and a 5-speed MT. The standard fuel economy is 7.9L/100km. It is launched in April 2011 (selling price 79,800 RMB).
 The company is planning to add a model that comes with a 1.5L 4A91S-type Mitsubishi MIVEC aluminum engine that is supplied by Harbin Dongan Power or a 1.8L Kavachi turbo engine supplied by SAIC.
Lingzhi M3  The Lingzhi M3 is an entry model (7-seat) of the Lingzhi MPV. 4655/1695/1940 with a wheelbase of 2800mm. It comes with a 2.0L Mitsubishi 4G63-type engine (max. output 81.6kW/max. torque 163Nm) and a 5-speed MT. The fuel economy is 9.7L/100km. The max. speed is 150km/h. The Liuzhou plant produces the model. It is launched in April 2011 (selling price 83,800 RMB).

Venucia 3box  Debut. The model is the first concept car (sedan, based on the 9th-generation Sunny) that Dongfeng Nissan Passenger Vehicle announced under its own brand - Venucia. Details of the specifications are not made public. The company plans to start marketing two models including a sedan, one in the first and one in the second half of 2012.
 When it launches the first model, the company will prepare more than 100 dealers and then will increase the number further in 31 province/ government-ruled municipality/ autonomous region nationwide, and 274 local cities, planning to cover 78% of China. In addition, it will utilize Nissan's network for its after-sales service, intending to provide its after-sales service concurrently as the service for Nissan vehicles.

 Debut. The Xiali N5 ISS is a micro HEV model (sedan) of the Xiali N5. 4156/1645/1435 with a wheelbase of 2405mm. The vehicle weight is 915kg. The fuel economy is 4.9L/100km for a 1.0L version and 5.6L/100km for a 1.3L version at 90km/h, which is improved by about 10% from the same-type base model. The Tianjin plant produces the model. It is planned to be launched as early as in 2012.
 The model comes with a 1.0L L3 CA3GA2-type gasoline engine (max. output 50.5kW/max. torque 90Nm)/1.3L CA4GA1-type gasoline engine (max. output 67kW/max. torque 120Nm), which FAW supplies, an idle reduction system (ISS), and a 5-speed MT.

FAW B9  Debut. The FAW B9 is a concept car of a high-end sedan, Besturn B90 (flagship model under its own brand). 4875/1826/1469 with a wheelbase of 2780mm. The production model is planned to be launched as early as in the second half of 2012 (selling price: about 150,000-160,000 RMB).

 The model comes with a 1.6L common-rail center-cooler turbo diesel-powered engine (max. output 67kW/max. torque 210Nm), which is made in-house, and a 5-speed MT. The max. speed is 175km/h. The fuel economy is 4.8L/100km at 90km/h, which is improved by more than 30% compared to the same-type gasoline-powered model.

 Debut. The Kuncheng Pickup is FAW-GM's first pickup (4-door, 2-row, 4-seat). 5070/1740/1720 with a wheelbase of 3025mm. The Changchun plant produces the model. It is scheduled to be launched in July 2011 under Jiefang brand (selling price: about 70,000 RMB).
 The model comes with a 2.2L XG491Q-ME-type engine (rated output 76kW/max. torque 193Nm) and a 5-speed MT. The fuel economy is 8.53L/100km. The max. speed is 120km/h.

 Debut. The Sense (HEV) is a concept model of a high-end mass-produced HEV (Flagship model under its own brand). 5200/2000/1380 with a wheelbase of 3000mm. The power system consists of an ISG motor, a 3.0L V6/2.0L turbo D20TGDI-type engine. Its production model is planned to be launched as early as 2012.

EV
 The Jinniuxing EV is a high-end EV minivan (flagship model) that is independently developed based on the Jinniuxing. 4110/1690/1930 with a wheelbase of 2605mm. The max. speed is 95km/h. The cruising range is 150km. It takes 1.5 hours to charge the battery quickly to 80% and 6 hours to fully charge it.
 The model comes with a lithium-ion iron phosphate battery (336V/60Ah), a permanent magnet synchronous motor (max. output 65kW/max. torque 160Nm), and a 5-speed MT.

 The Jinniuxing STT is a micro HEV minivan that is based on the Jinniuxing. 3900/1700 (1710)/1570 (1615) with a wheelbase of 2450mm. The max. speed is 160km/h. The fuel economy is improved by 5% compared to the same-type base model (about 6.8L/100km). It will be launched as early as in 2011.
 The model comes with a power system (that is also used in the CHANA CX20 HEV), which consists of Bosch's STT idle reduction system, a 2nd-generation 1.3L aluminum engine (max. output 63kW/max. torque 110Nm), which the company makes, and a 5-speed MT.

 Debut. The CHANA CX20 HEV is a micro HEV crossover that is independently developed based on the CHANA CX20. 3900/1700 (1710)/1570 (1615) with a wheelbase of 2450mm. It is scheduled to be launched as early as in 2011.
 The model comes with a power system (that is also used in the Jinniuxing STT), which consists of Bosch's idle reduction system, a 1.3L aluminum engine (max. output 63kW/max. torque 110Nm), and a 5-speed MT.

The fuel economy is 6.3L/100km (improved by 10% compared to the same-type gasoline-powered model). It is launched in April 2011 (selling price 36,900-38,900 RMB).
 The model comes with a STT idle reduction system, Harbin Dongan Engine's 970cc D10A-type (max. output 60 horsepower)/1051cc D11A (max. output 65 ps) 4-cylinder engine, and a 5-speed MT.

 The Beijing C30DB EV is an EV hatchback that is independently developed based on the BC301Z. 3995/1718/1500 with a wheelbase of 2500mm. The weight of the vehicle body is 1450kg. The gross vehicle weight is 1800kg. The max. speed is 120km/h. The cruising range is up to 150km. The electricity consumption is 12.1kWh/100km. It takes 30 minutes to charge the battery quickly to 80% and 6-8 hours to fully charge it. The Beijing Yuqing plant produces the model. Trial production/marketing is scheduled to begin in September 2011 (selling price: about 300,000 RMB).
 The model comes with a water-cooling permanent magnet synchronous motor (rated output 20kW/max. output 45kW, rated torque 64Nm/max. torque 144Nm) for front-wheel-drive and a lithium-ion iron phosphate battery (336V/60Ah/20.16kWh, weight 300kg). Incidentally, the company is currently developing a replaceable drive Li-ion battery, which can be replaced within three minutes.

It comes with a 2.4L in-line 4-cylinder engine (max. output 105kW/max. torque 217Nm) and a 5-speed MT. It is planned to be launched at the end of 2012 (selling price: less than 200,000 RMB).
Beijing BC301  The Beijing BC301 is a production model of a compact hatchback (planned official name: "C301Z") under its own brand - Beijing. 3998/1720/1503 with a wheelbase of 2500mm. The max. speed is 160-170km/h. It is scheduled to be launched by June 2011 (selling price: about 70,000 RMB. The company targets to sell 200,000 a year by 2013).
 The model comes with 1.3L 4A90M-type (max. output 73kW/max. torque 124Nm)/1.5L 4A91S-type (max. output 83kW/max. torque 147Nm) in-line 4-cylinder Mitsubishi MIVEC aluminum engine supplied by Harbin Dongan Engine and 5-speed MT/4-speed AT (same as the sedan version, BC302).
Beijing BC302  The Beijing BC302 is a (compact) sedan version of the BC301. 4310/1720/1500 with a wheelbase of 2500mm. The max. speed is 160-170km/h. The model is scheduled to be launched in 2011 (selling price: less than 100,000 RMB).
 The model comes with 1.3L 4A90M-type (max. output 73kW/max. torque 124Nm)/1.5L 4A91S-type (max. output 83kW/max. torque 147Nm) Mitsubishi MIVEC aluminum in-line 4-cyliinder engine and 5-speed MT/4-speed AT (same as a hatchback version, BC301).
Weiwang 306  The Weiwang 306 is the first minivan (5/7/8-seat) under its own brand, "Weiwang". It is based on Daihatsu's 2007-model-year Gran Max Van. 4030/1636/1907 with a wheelbase of 2700mm. The max. speed is 130km/h. The standard fuel economy is 6.4L/100km. Eleven combinations are possible for the rear seat. The Zhuzhou plant (Hunan province) produces the model. Its limited local marketing began in April 2011 (The company targets to sell 200,000 a year by 2013).
 The model comes with a 1.3L Liuzhou Wuling Liuji Power's LJ474Q3E2-type water-cooling in-line 4-cylinder aluminum engine (max. output 60.5kW/max. torque 102Nm) and a 5-speed MT (The company plans to add a model with a compact engine that is made in-house in the future).
 Incidentally, the company plans to start marketing of the Weiwang 305Z/307Z in 2012, which is a derivative model with emphasis on baggage carrying capacity and which uses the same platform as the Weiwang 306 (selling price: about 190,000-200,000 RMB).

Aoosed G5  The Aoosed G5 is a city SUV (5-seat) under the Gonow brand, which the company spent three years developing independently. 4640/1815/1800 with a wheelbase of 2745mm. A Japanese designer designed the model. It adopts the chassis of Mitsubishi Pajero V31, which Australia-based Prodrive modified. The company procures parts globally.
 The model comes with a 2.4L Mitsubishi 4G69S4N-type gasoline engine (rated output 100kW/max. output 118kW, max. torque 196Nm) and 5-speed MT/Hyundai's 5-speed AT. The fuel economy is 10.5L/100km. The Dongying plant of Shandong province produces the model. It is launched in April 2011 (99,800-123,800 RMB).
 In addition, the company will additionally launch a new model with its own 2.5L GA4D25TCI-type common-rail diesel-powered engine and a 2.0L gasoline/diesel-powered engine in the near future, planning to boost the annual sales volume of the G5 series to 100,000 by 2013.
The company also exhibited the 2012-model-year Aoosed G5, whose exterior including front/rear face is different.
Caiyun 500 Fan

 The Caiyun 500 Fan is a high-end 4WD pickup (double cab, Isuzu's chassis technology is adopted). 5080/1725/1730 (1760) with a wheelbase of 3025mm. It is scheduled to be launched in the second half of 2011 (selling price: about 90,000-100,000 RMB).
 The 1760mm-high version comes with a 2.4L Shenyang Mitsubishi Motor Engine's 4G69S4N-type engine (rated output 100kW/max. torque 196Nm). The 1730mm-high version comes with its own 2.8L GA4D28TC-type turbo common-rail engine (rated output 70kW/max. torque 225Nm).
 Incidentally, the company started marketing of a diesel-powered model that use GAC Gonow Automobile's diesel-powered engine in April 2010.
