Business Overview

-The Company is a leading global tire manufacturer with a focus on premium automotive segments with higher technological content. The Company produces car, motorcycle, truck, bus, and agricultural tires.

-Within Original Equipment for Cars, SUV and light commercial vehicles, in Europe the company has market share of Premium customers of over 25% in 2021.

Shareholders

-In March 2015, China National Chemical Corporation (ChemChina) began the acquisition process of the Company for EUR 7.1 billion, which concluded in November 2015. The process eventually resulted into a reverse merger plan between the Company and the investment vehicle used by ChemChina to accumulate Company shares. The Company was delisted from the Milano stock exchange on February 25, 2016.

-From November 6, 2015 through May 31, 2016, Marco Polo Industrial Holding SpA, a subsidiary of China National Chemical Corporation, owned all of the ordinary shares of the Company.

-On October 4th, 2017, the company listed again to Milan Stock Exchange.

History

1872 Was established in Milan in 1872 by Giovanni Battista Pirelli.
1901 Started to manufacture passenger car tires.
1948 Started to manufacture the "Cinturato" radial tire.
1963 Acquired Veith tire company of Germany.
1980's Acquired Metzeler Armstrong.
1990's Implemented a restructuring program, including the divestment of non-strategic Diversified Products.
1995-96 Started and consolidated its international re-launching, a stage characterized by the development of new technologies, the introduction of new products and the opening up of new markets (Indonesia, 1995; China, 1996)
2001 The opening of Pirelli Labs.
2005 The Company opened its first tire production plant in China.
2005 A production plant of steelcord for tires was opened in Romania.
2006 The Company opened its first tire production plant in Romania.
2008 The Company and Russian Technology signed an agreement for a joint venture to start tire production in Russia, in the region of Samara.
2009 A new plant was opened in Romania for the production of anti-particulate filters.
2010 The construction of the first factory in Mexico was announced.
2012 Acquired the Voronezh tyre plant in Russia from Russian petrochemical company Sibur Holding.
Feb. 2014 Reached an agreement with N.V. Bekaert S.A. for the divestiture of the Company's steel cord activities.
Nov. 2015 China National Chemical Corporation completes acquisition of the Company.
Feb. 2016 Pirelli's delisting due to China National Chemical Corporation's acquisition.
