Business Overview

-An independent manufacturer of oil seals.

-It operates in three business areas: the Seal Business, Electronic-parts Business, and Others.

‐It has a 70% share of the oil-seal market in Japan and a 50% share worldwide, according to the Company’s press release. It formed a partnership with Freudenberg in 1960, a major European oil-seal manufacturer based in Germany. This enabled the Company to create a worldwide supply chain that covers Japan, the Americas, Europe and Asia. In recent years, it has started developing products in response the trend in electrification and autonomous driving.

Dec.1939 Established Edogawa Seiki in Katsushika, Tokyo.
Oct. 1948 Renamed as Tokyo Oil Seal Kogyo.
Dec. 1951 Merged with Nippon Yushi Kogyo, and changed Company name to Nippon Oil Seal Kogyo.
June 1954 Head office and plant moved to Ota, Tokyo.

Mar,2000 Started negotiations with Freudenberg GmbH with regard to the O-ring business, focusing on marketing in response to global shared ordering.
Apr,2001 Invested 1 billion yen to establish a wholly-owned subsidiary and plant in Thailand to produce HDD components. Will shift production from Japanese plants and concentrate it in this new plant, which currently produces 30% of total sales. Projected increase to 40%.
July 2001 Concentrated the main oil seal business at Fukushima business facility. Transferred and integrated the Fujisawa business facility's machine tool oil seal R&D functions to the Fukushima facility.
Apr. 2002 Span off a subsidiary UNIMATEC from another subsidiary Nippon Mektron, Ltd.
