Zero Vacuum Brake System : ESC-Boost
The zero vacuum brake system adopts a simple actuator that uses a motor to generate hydraulic pressure directly in the brake master cylinder. Thus, it performs a boosting operation without using negative pressure of an engine. The brake system has ESC and re-generation functions for small vehicles. The actuator coordinates regenerative braking with the drive motor of HVs and EVs. Instead of a conventional vacuum booster, it utilizes a simple system to produce master cylinder hydraulic pressure with a hollow motor and its internal ball screw. -The Environment-
Variable Valve Actuation Systems
Features:
-Reduced fuel consumption by the reducing friction and weight (Valve Lifter) (Valve Rocker)
-Reduces the weight of the C-VTC which is less weight consisting of the sintered material. The internal return springs is set in the hydraulic chambers o VTC. (Compact Exhaust C-VTC)
-It is possible to shift the cam phase even though it is the condition of low engine speed and the freezing point. (ecss TVC)
-For both direct acting and swing arm valve train. Can be installed in conventional cylinder head without the need of cam shaft axle position change from conventional axis position.

Propeller Shaft with Aluminum/Steel welding
Features:
-Welding of different materials between Aluminum and Steel, which was difficult before, was realized. It realized lightweight Propeller Shaft with many Joints, which are effective in noise and vibration reduction, by implementing optimum design of component parts with Aluminum.
Benefit:
-Weight reduction of about 40 % is possible for Aluminum/Steel Propeller Shaft against normal Steel Propeller Shaft due to adoption of Aluminum Yokes and Tubes.
-Aluminum is environment-friendly material because it needs lower energy for recycling due to its melting point of about a half of steel.
-Information & Safety-
Safety Driving Support with Icy Road Information
-To prevent slip accident, Internet ITS Consortium and Hitachi is aiming for the system to share the real time information of potential accident situations by detecting the status of road surface freezing with wheel speed and ABS signals, etc.
As a joint experiment, below activities are conducted;
-Collecting slip data on the low friction road
-Telecommunication test to the server system
-Establishing the detection method to calculate slip rate on the snowy road in Akita City
-Collecting data at the real icy test course in Hokkaido.

<Highlights>
The Company displayed various automotive related products from among the Hitachi Group. These products highlighted various themes such as the environment, safety, information, materials and function. In addition, the Company displayed the following exhibits focusing on leading-edge technology.
-Finger Vein Personal Identification Technology
-The Company introduced the world-premiere of finger grip technology, namely finger vein authentication technology, that instantaneously identifies the rightful vehicle owners simply when they grip their vehicles' door handles. The system can recognize their finger vein pattern and confirm their identity. The Company was careful to focus on biometric technology which takes advantage of individual traits in finger veins that identify unique patterns belonging only to each, individual person alone. As a result, drivers need not carry any keys, so this systems functions as an anti-theft device to prevent anyone from getting into vehicles by using forged or stolen keys.
<Features>
(1) Authentication based on vein pattern on finger backside
-The initial finger-vein-recognition technology that the Company conceived relied on recognizing vein patterns on the palm-side of the fingers. However, there was a problem with this since finger veins on the palm side compress and change shape when people grip objects. This made it difficult to get a fixed and constant pattern. The Company then found an interesting sidelight. When people grip objects, the veins on their fingers' backsides stretch just the right amount and actually produce very vivid and clear patterns. When the Company placed the light source on top of the handle in close proximity to the fingers, it achieved successful results.
(2) Door-handle design guides fingers to fixed position
-To ensure that the same fingers are imaged, the door handle has been designed to guide the fingers into the same position every time. Combining corrective technology to normalize the image of the veins through image processing resulted in stable and constant authentication results.
-Stereo cameras
-Taking advantage of the parallax between stereo cameras positioned in two locations on vehicles enables solid objects such as vehicles and pedestrians to be detected, along with the distance to them measured. This system is being jointly developed by capitalizing on Fuji Heavy Industries' expertise in stereo technology and on Hitachi's know-how in LSI image processing technology.
