On December 11, the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM) announced China’s vehicle production and sales results for November 2023.

Passenger vehicle (PV) production and sales volumes remained good amid recovering auto consumption, and commercial vehicle (CV) production and sales volumes were lifted by factors such as a recovery in the logistics industry. New Energy Vehicle (NEV) and vehicle exports maintained rapid growth.
According to the CAAM, as national policies of stabilizing economic growth have been taking effect and measures such as regional subsidies and promotions for vehicle purchase have been continued, Q4 demand will continue to grow. The auto industry is therefore expected to achieve its annual sales targets successfully.
In October, vehicle production and sales volumes totaled 2.891 million units and 2.853 million units, up 11.2% and 13.8% y/y, respectively. Year-to-date (YTD) production and sales volumes were 24.016 million units and 23.967 million units, up 8% and 9.1% y/y, respectively.
For PVs, production and sales volumes in October totaled 2.513 million units and 2.488 million units, up 7.6% y/y and 11.4% y/y, respectively. YTD production and sales volumes totaled 20.731 million units and 20.664 million units, up 6% and 7.5% y/y, respectively.
For CVs, production and sales volumes in October totaled 378,000 units and 365,000 units, up 42.7% and 33.4% y/y, respectively. YTD production and sales volumes were 3.286 million units and 3.303 million units, up 22.1% and 19.8%, respectively.
For NEVs, production and sales volumes in October totaled 989,000 units and 956,000 units, up 29.2% and 33.5% y/y, respectively. Specifically, BEV (battery electric vehicle) production and sales volumes totaled 656,000 units and 646,000 units, up 12.4% and 18.8% y/y, respectively; PHV (plug-in hybrid vehicle) production and sales volumes totaled 332,000 units and 310,000 units, up 83.4% and 80.2% y/y, respectively; FCV (fuel cell vehicle) production and sales volumes totaled 400 units and 500 units, down 48.2% y/y and 56.4% y/y, respectively.
YTD NEV production and sales volumes totaled 7.352 million units and 7.280 million units, up 33.9% and 37.8% y/y, respectively. Specifically, BEV production and sales volumes totaled 5.167 million units and 5.160 million units, up 20.9% and 25.2% y/y, respectively; PHV production and sales volumes totaled 2.181 million units and 2.116 million units, up 79.6% and 82.6% y/y, respectively; FCV production and sales volumes both totaled 4,000 units, up 39.8% and 54.0% y/y, respectively.

China’s vehicle production and sales volumes increase 6.6% and 9.5% y/y in September, respectively
On October 11, the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM) announced China’s vehicle production and sales results for September 2023.
In September, amid the introduction of a range of national-level consumption promotion policies, local governments responded actively by formulating and implementing measures such as issuing consumption coupons and vehicle purchase subsidies. Coupled with the pooled launch of new vehicles in Autumn and an increase in truck sales driven by the stabilization and recovery of the logistics industry, China’s auto market showed an overall trend of “not weak at all in the off-season and more prosperous in the peak season” and maintained its popularity.
In September, China’s vehicle production and sales volumes both reached a record high for the same period, and New Energy Vehicle (NEV) exports and vehicle exports held up well. The successive implementation of policies to promote auto consumption and stabilize industrial growth will strongly support the auto market in Q4 and help the auto industry achieve the annual target of stable growth.
In September, vehicle production and sales volumes totaled 2.85 million units and 2.858 million units, up 6.6% and 9.5% y/y, respectively. Year-to-date (YTD) production and sales volumes were 21.075 million units and 21.069 million units, up 7.3% and 8.2% y/y, respectively.

China’s vehicle production and sales volumes increase 7.5% and 8.4% y/y in August, respectively
On September 11, the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM) announced China’s vehicle production and sales results for August 2023.
In August, driven by such factors as national consumption promotion policies and automakers’ promotion activities, demand for vehicle purchase continued to release, which led the overall performance of the auto market to be not weak at all in the traditional off-season, with production and sales volumes both increasing on year-over-year (y/y) and month-over-month (m/m) bases. Specifically, the production and sales volumes of passenger vehicles (PVs) and commercial vehicles (CVs) all grew, and the export volumes of New Energy Vehicles (NEVs) and vehicles remained good.
On September 1, seven Chinese government agencies including the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of China jointly released the “Work Plan for the Automotive Industry on Stabilizing Growth (2023-2024)”, consolidating and continuing the industry’s development trend of growing while maintaining stability. It is expected that with various policies taking effect, the automotive industry about to enter the peak sales season, and automakers continuously introducing new products, market demand will be further released to achieve the expected goal of economic development of the industry.
In August, vehicle production and sales volumes totaled 2.575 million units and 2.582 million units, up 7.5% and 8.4% y/y, respectively. Year-to-date (YTD) production and sales volumes were 18.225 million units and 18.21 million units, up 7.4% and 8.0% y/y, respectively.
For PVs, production and sales volumes in August totaled 2.275 million units and 2.273 million units, up 5.4% y/y and 6.9% y/y, respectively. YTD production and sales volumes totaled 15.672 million units and 15.643 million units, up 5.9% and 6.7% y/y, respectively.
For CVs, production and sales volumes in August totaled 300,000 units and 310,000 units, up 26.2% and 20.0% y/y, respectively. YTD production and sales volumes were 2.553 million units and 2.568 million units, up 18.0% and 16.4%, respectively.
For NEVs, production and sales volumes in August totaled 843,000 units and 846,000 units, up 22.0% and 27.0% y/y, respectively. Specifically, BEV (battery electric vehicle) production and sales volumes totaled 589,000 units and 597,000 units, up 9.9% and 14.4% y/y, respectively; PHV (plug-in hybrid vehicle) production and sales volumes totaled 253,000 units and 249,000 units, up 63.9% and 72.8% y/y, respectively; FCV (fuel cell vehicle) production and sales volumes totaled 100 units and 200 units, up 5.2% y/y and down 30.6% y/y, respectively.
YTD NEV production and sales volumes totaled 5.434 million units and 5.374 million units, up 36.9% and 39.2% y/y, respectively. Specifically, BEV production and sales volumes totaled 3.872 million units and 3.842 million units, up 24.5% and 26.4% y/y, respectively; PHV production and sales volumes totaled 1.559 million units and 1.529 million units, up 81.9% and 86.9% y/y, respectively; FCV production and sales volumes both totaled 3,000 units, up 29.1% and 51.3% y/y, respectively.

China’s vehicle production and sales volumes decrease 2.2% and 1.4% y/y in July, respectively
On August 10, the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM) announced China’s vehicle production and sales results for July 2023.
In July, given the high base for the same period last year and the traditional off-season in the auto market, the pace of production and sales slowed down and brought about a relatively lackluster overall market performance, with production and sales volumes both declining on year-over-year (y/y) and month-over-month (m/m) bases. Specifically, the production and sales volumes of passenger vehicles (PVs) both declined y/y and m/m, while those of commercial vehicles (CVs) both grew by double digits y/y due to last year’s low base. The export volumes of New Energy Vehicles (NEVs) and vehicles remained good.
In late July, 13 Chinese government agencies including the National Development and Reform Commission jointly issued the “Several Measures to Promote Automobile Consumption”, where 10 specific measures to stabilize and expand auto consumption were proposed. With the implementation of a new wave of auto consumption promotion policies, the potential for auto consumption is expected to be further released, which will contribute to the auto industry achieving the goal of stabilizing growth for the year.
In July, vehicle production and sales volumes totaled 2.401 million units and 2.387 million units, down 2.2% and 1.4% y/y, respectively. Year-to-date (YTD) production and sales volumes were 15.65 million units and 15.626 million units, up 7.4% and 7.9% y/y, respectively.
For PVs, production and sales volumes in July totaled 2.115 million units and 2.10 million units, down 4.3% y/y and 3.4% y/y, respectively. YTD production and sales volumes totaled 13.397 million units and 13.368 million units, up 6% and 6.7% y/y, respectively.
For CVs, production and sales volumes in July totaled 286,000 units and 287,000 units, up 17% and 16.8% y/y, respectively. YTD production and sales volumes were 2.253 million units and 2.258 million units, up 16.9% and 15.9%, respectively.
For NEVs, production and sales volumes in July totaled 805,000 units and 780,000 units, up 30.6% and 31.6% y/y, respectively. Specifically, BEV (battery electric vehicle) production and sales volumes totaled 555,000 units and 541,000 units, up 17.5% and 18.2% y/y, respectively; PHV (plug-in hybrid vehicle) production and sales volumes totaled 250,000 units and 239,000 units, up 73.3% and 77% y/y, respectively; FCV (fuel cell vehicle) production and sales volumes totaled 200 units and 300 units, down 17.2% y/y and up 13.1% y/y, respectively.
YTD NEV production and sales volumes totaled 4.591 million units and 4.526 million units, up 40% and 41.7% y/y, respectively. Specifically, BEV production and sales volumes totaled 3.301 million units and 3.26 million units, up 28.3% and 29.5% y/y, respectively; PHV production and sales volumes totaled 1.287 million units and 1.263 million units, up 83.3% and 87.4% y/y, respectively; FCV production and sales volumes both totaled 3,000 units, up 30.2% and 64.1% y/y, respectively.
In July, vehicle exports totaled 392,000 units, up 35.1% y/y. This is mainly because demand in China’s auto market, where there was the impact of a promotion policy switch and price fluctuations in Q1, is gradually recovering due to the joint stimulation of central and regional consumption promotion policies, regional automotive marketing activities, and the mass launch of new models, as well as automakers hitting their half-year targets and the relatively low base for April and May.
According to the CAAM, the good performance of China’s New Energy Vehicle (NEV) market and auto exports effectively boosted market growth. With policy effect gradually becoming apparent, the consumption potential of the auto market will be further released, helping the auto industry achieve year-round stable growth. However, as the current external environment remains complex, consumption demand remains insufficient, and many challenges remain in business operations, it is necessary to maintain the stability of policies to support the smooth operation of the industry.
In June, vehicle production and sales volumes totaled 2.561 million units and 2.622 million units, up 2.5% and 4.8% y/y, respectively. Year-to-date (YTD) production and sales volumes were 13.248 million units and 13.239 million units, up 9.3% and 9.8% y/y, respectively.
For passenger vehicles (PVs), production and sales volumes in June totaled 2.219 million units and 2.268 million units, down 0.9% y/y and up 2.1% y/y, respectively. YTD production and sales volumes totaled 11.281 million units and 11.268 million units, up 8.1% and 8.8% y/y, respectively.
For commercial vehicles (CVs), production and sales volumes in June totaled 342,000 units and 355,000 units, up 31.3% and 26.3% y/y, respectively. YTD production and sales volumes were 1.967 million units and 1.971 million units, up 16.9% and 15.8%, respectively.
For NEVs, production and sales volumes in June totaled 784,000 units and 806,000 units, up 32.8% and 35.2% y/y, respectively. Specifically, BEV (battery electric vehicle) production and sales volumes totaled 548,000 units and 573,000 units, up 17.5% and 20.5% y/y, respectively; PHV (plug-in hybrid vehicle) production and sales volumes totaled 235,000 units and 232,000 units, up 90.5% and 93.0% y/y, respectively; FCV (fuel cell vehicle) production and sales volumes both totaled 1,000 units, up 27.1% y/y and 109.9% y/y, respectively.
YTD NEV production and sales volumes totaled 3.788 million units and 3.747 million units, up 42.4% and 44.1% y/y, respectively. Specifically, BEV production and sales volumes totaled 2.747 million units and 2.719 million units, up 30.3% and 31.9% y/y, respectively; PHV production and sales volumes totaled 1,039,000 units and 1,025,000 units, up 88.6% and 91.1% y/y, respectively; FCV production and sales volumes both totaled 2,000 units, up 38.4% and 73.5% y/y, respectively.
In June, vehicle exports totaled 382,000 units, up 53.2% y/y. Specifically, PV exports totaled 312,000 units, up 57.7% y/y; CV exports totaled 70,000 units, up 36% y/y; NEV exports totaled 78,000 units, up 170% y/y. YTD vehicle exports totaled 2.14 million units, up 75.7% y/y. Specifically, PV exports totaled 1.78 million units, up 88.4% y/y; CV exports totaled 361,000 units, up 31.9% y/y; NEV exports totaled 534,000 units, up 160% y/y.

China vehicle production and sales volumes increase 21.1% and 27.9% in May, respectively
On June 9, the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM) announced vehicle production and sales results for May 2023 in China.
In May 2023, China’s vehicle production and sales volumes both increased year-over-year (y/y). This is mainly due to the contribution of the joint issuance of the “Announcement on the Implementation of the China 6b Emission Standards” by five Chinese ministries including the Ministry of Ecology and Environment of China in May to the stability of the auto market and of the launch of such marketing activities as vehicle purchase promotions and consumption festivals in many regions during the International Workers’ Day holiday to the recovery of the market, as well as the relatively low base for the same period in 2022 when the COVID-19 pandemic was still raging. In addition, New Energy Vehicle (NEV) production and sales volumes maintained rapid growth, and vehicle exports grew significantly.
According to the CAAM, the status of the auto industry has improved since April, but the auto market remains in a slow recovery and the economic performance of the industry remains under great pressure, with automakers’ performance at a low level. As far as it goes, the task of stabilizing growth for the year is arduous and requires further market recovery and demand expansion. Comprehensive policies shall be introduced to accelerate the release of consumption potential and promote stable industry growth.
In May, vehicle production and sales volumes totaled 2.333 million units and 2.382 million units, up 21.1% and 27.9% y/y, respectively. Year-to-date (YTD) production and sales volumes were 10.687 million units and 10.617 million units, both up 11.1% y/y.

YTD NEV production and sales volumes totaled 3.005 million units and 2.94 million units, up 45.1% and 46.8% y/y, respectively. Specifically, BEV production and sales volumes totaled 2.199 million units and 2.146 million units, up 33.9% and 35.3% y/y, respectively; PHV production and sales volumes totaled 803,000 units and 793,000 units, up 88% and 90.5% y/y, respectively; FCV production and sales volumes totaled 2,000 units and 1,000 units, up 42.4% and 55.7% y/y, respectively.

China vehicle production and sales volumes increase 76.8% and 82.7% in April, respectively
On May 11, the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM) announced vehicle production and sales results for April 2023 in China.
In April 2023, vehicle production and sales significantly rose in China, largely due to the low base effect in 2022 when there were frequent COVID waves and instability in the supply chain. In terms of production, sales and exports, New Energy Vehicles (NEVs) continued to perform well. Nonetheless, customers tended to be on the fence as a result of the irrational sales promotion trend since March. Vehicle consumption was still in the process of a slow recovery. Moreover, the commercial vehicle (CV) segment was not recovering as quickly as expected. As a result of multiple headwinds, April production and sales were down from the previous month.
According to CAAM, the current downside pressure on China's economy continues to mount. While the economy is showing signs of improvement and turning for the better, demand remains inadequate. Business operations are generally under great pressure, coupled with the complex and volatile international situation. Thus, it remains an uphill task to achieve stable growth in the auto industry. To that end, it is necessary to constantly strengthen effective policies which can stabilize and expand auto consumption, to fully unleash the potential of auto consumption, and to promote industry stability.
In April, vehicle production and sales volumes totaled 2.133 million units and 2.159 million units, up 76.8% and 82.7% year-over-year (y/y), respectively. Year-to-date (YTD) production and sales volumes were 8.355 million units and 8.235 million units, up 8.6% and 7.1% y/y, respectively.
For passenger vehicles (PVs), production and sales volumes in April totaled 1.778 million units and 1.811 million units, up 78.5% and 87.7% y/y, respectively. YTD production and sales volumes totaled 7.052 million units and 6.949 million units, up 8.6% and 6.8% y/y, respectively.
For CVs, production and sales volumes in April totaled 355,000 units and 348,000 million units, up 68.8% and 60.5% y/y, respectively. YTD production and sales volumes were 1.303 million units and 1.286 million units, respectively, both up 8.8% y/y.
For NEVs, production and sales volumes in April totaled 640,000 units and 636,000 units, respectively, both up 110%. Specifically, BEV (battery electric vehicle) production and sales volumes totaled 483,000 units and 471,000 units, up 99.4% and 103.7% y/y, respectively; PHV (plug-in hybrid vehicle) production and sales volumes totaled 157,000 units and 165,000 units, up 125.9% and 144.5% y/y, respectively; FCV (fuel cell vehicle) production and sales volumes totaled 400 units and 300 units, up 128.1% and 222.3% y/y, respectively.
YTD NEV production and sales volumes totaled 2.291 million units and 2.222 million units, respectively, both up 42.8% y/y. Specifically, BEV production and sales volumes totaled 1.682 million units and 1.623 million units, up 31.6% and 31% y/y, respectively; PHV production and sales volumes totaled 608,000 units and 598,000 units, up 86.7% and 89.2% y/y, respectively; FCV production and sales volumes both totaled 1,000 units, up 2.6% and 19.1% y/y, respectively.
In April, vehicle exports totaled 376,000 units, up 170% y/y. Specifically, PV exports totaled 316,000 units, up 220% y/y; CV exports totaled 60,000 units, up 41.6% y/y; NEV exports totaled 100,000 units, up 840% y/y. YTD vehicle exports totaled 1,370,000 units, up 89.2% y/y. Specifically, PV exports totaled 1,142,000 units, up 110% y/y; CV exports totaled 228,000 units, up 31.5% y/y; NEV exports totaled 348,000 units, up 170% y/y.

China vehicle production and sales volumes increase 15.3% and 9.7% in March, respectively
On April 11, the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM) announced vehicle production and sales results for March 2023 in China.
In Q1 2023, the Chinese auto industry entered a promotion policy switching period. The expiration of purchase tax incentives for conventional ICE vehicles and subsidies for New Energy Vehicles (NEVs) triggered advance consumption at the end of last year and follow-up policies remain unclear. With NEV price cuts since the beginning of this year and a wave of promotions starting from March fluctuating the terminal market, the overall economic operation of the industry is under great pressure. However, last year’s highlights in the auto market continued in Q1 this year, with NEV sales maintaining rapid growth and vehicle exports staying at high levels. Coupled with China’s economy continuously rebounding, infrastructure projects breaking ground in succession, and overseas exports remaining good, the commercial vehicle (CV) market has shown signs of picking up.
In March, vehicle production and sales volumes totaled 2.584 million units and 2.451 million units, up 15.3% and 9.7% year-over-year (y/y), respectively. Year-to-date (YTD) production and sales volumes were 6.21 million units and 6.076 million units, down 4.3% and 6.7% y/y, respectively.
For passenger vehicles (PVs), production and sales volumes in March totaled 2.149 million units and 2.017 million units, up 14.3% and 8.2% y/y, respectively. Among the main categories of PVs, sales volume of mini vans plunged y/y, while that of the other three rose by varying degrees. YTD production and sales volumes totaled 5.262 million units and 5.138 million units, down 4.3% and 7.3% y/y, respectively. Among the main categories of PVs, sales volume of MPVs edged up y/y, while that of the other three fell by varying degrees.
For CVs, production and sales volumes in March both totaled 434,000 units, up 20.4% and 17.4% y/y, respectively. YTD production and sales volumes were 948,000 units and 938,000 units, down 3.9% and 2.9%, respectively.
For NEVs, production and sales volumes in March totaled 674,000 units and 653,000 units, up 44.8% and 34.8% y/y, respectively. Specifically, BEV (battery electric vehicle) production and sales volumes totaled 511,000 units and 490,000 units, up 35.8% and 23.8% y/y, respectively; PHV (plug-in hybrid vehicle) production and sales volumes both totaled 163,000 units, up 83.4% and 84.3% y/y, respectively; FCV (fuel cell vehicle) production and sales volumes totaled 400 units and 500 units, down 19.8% y/y and up 27.0% y/y, respectively.
YTD NEV production and sales volumes totaled 1,650,000 units and 1,586,000 units, up 27.7% and 26.2% y/y, respectively. Specifically, BEV production and sales volumes totaled 1,198,000 units and 1,152,000 units, up 15.7% and 14.4% y/y, respectively; PHV production and sales volumes totaled 451,000 units and 433,000 units, up 76.1% and 74.1% y/y, respectively; FCV production and sales volumes both totaled 1,000 units, down 24.4% and 6.8% y/y, respectively.
In March, vehicle exports totaled 364,000 units, up 110% y/y. Specifically, PV exports totaled 304,000 units, up 150% y/y; CV exports totaled 59,000 units, up 19.8% y/y; NEV exports totaled 78,000 units, up 390% y/y. YTD vehicle exports totaled 994,000 units, up 70.6% y/y. Specifically, PV exports totaled 826,000 units, up 82.9% y/y; CV exports totaled 168,000 units, up 28.1% y/y; NEV exports totaled 248,000 units, up 110% y/y.

Given advance consumption triggered by the expiration of purchase tax incentives for conventional ICE vehicles and subsidies for NEVs at the end of 2022, year-to-date (YTD) production and sales volumes shrank significantly y/y. Also, taking into account that the environments home and abroad currently impacting auto consumption remains highly complex, the task of China’s auto industry of stabilizing growth stays arduous, and continuous support from relevant policies is needed to help the industry run steadily.
In February, vehicle production and sales volumes totaled 2.032 million units and 1.976 million units, up 11.9% and 13.5% y/y, respectively. YTD production and sales volumes were 3.626 million units and 3.625 million units, down 14.5% and 15.2% y/y, respectively.
For PVs, production and sales volumes in February totaled 1.715 million units and 1.653 million units, up 11.6% and 10.9% y/y, respectively. YTD production and sales volumes totaled 3.112 million units and 3.121 million units, down 14% and 15.2% y/y, respectively.
For CVs, production and sales volumes in February totaled 317,000 units and 324,000 units, up 13.5% and 29.1% y/y, respectively. YTD production and sales volumes were 514,000 units and 504,000 units, down 17.8% and 15.4%, respectively.
For NEVs, production and sales volumes in February totaled 552,000 units and 525,000 units, up 48.8% and 55.9% y/y, respectively. Specifically, BEV (battery electric vehicle) production and sales volumes totaled 389,000 units and 376,000 units, up 35.2% and 43.9% y/y, respectively; PHV (plug-in hybrid vehicle) production and sales volumes totaled 163,000 units and 149,000 units, up 96.5% and 98.0% y/y, respectively; FCV (fuel cell vehicle) production and sales volumes totaled 100 units and 40 units, down 53.1% and 77.5% y/y, respectively.
YTD NEV production and sales volumes totaled 977,000 units and 933,000 units, up 18.1% and 20.8% y/y, respectively. Specifically, BEV production and sales volumes totaled 688,000 units and 662,000 units, up 4.3% and 8.4% y/y, respectively; PHV production and sales volumes totaled 289,000 units and 270,000 units, up 72.2% and 68.6% y/y, respectively; FCV production and sales volumes totaled 170 units and 200 units, down 51.4% and 45.6% y/y, respectively.
In February, vehicle exports totaled 329,000 units, up 82.2% y/y. Specifically, PV exports totaled 271,000 units, up 85.8% y/y; CV exports totaled 58,000 units, up 67.2% y/y; NEV exports totaled 87,000 units, up 79.5% y/y. YTD vehicle exports totaled 630,000 units, up 52.9% y/y. Specifically, PV exports totaled 522,000 units, up 57.7% y/y; CV exports totaled 108,000 units, up 32.9% y/y; NEV exports totaled 170,000 units, up 62.8% y/y.

China vehicle production and sales decrease 34.3% and 35% in January, respectively
On February 10, the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM) announced vehicle production and sales results for January 2023.
In January 2023, affected by the Spring Festival holiday and with consumer demand partially overdrawn, coupled with the expiration of purchase tax incentives for conventional ICE vehicles and subsidy policies for New Energy Vehicles (NEVs), the performance of the auto market was lackluster, with production and sales volumes showing double-digit declines in both month-over-month (m/m) and year-over-year (y/y) terms. Specifically, passenger vehicle production and sales volumes fell significantly; commercial vehicle production and sales volumes stayed at low levels; NEV production and sales volumes and auto exports remained good.
Looking ahead to Q1, the task of stabilizing the growth of China’s auto industry remains arduous and requires a sustained policy boost. Recently, government authorities have claimed that they will continue to stabilize and expand auto consumption, while many regions have successively introduced policies to promote auto consumption and encourage NEV development, which will bring confidence in the stable development of the auto market.
Overall vehicle production and sales in January totaled 1,594,000 units and 1,649,000 units, down 34.3% and 35% y/y, respectively.
In January, passenger vehicle production and sales reached 1,397,000 units and 1,469,000 units, both down 32.9% y/y.
For commercial vehicles, production in January totaled 197,000 units, reflecting a 43.1% y/y decrease. Sales were 180,000 units, reflecting a 47.7% y/y decrease.
In January, NEV production and sales reached 425,000 units and 408,000 units, down 6.9% and 6.3% y/y, respectively. Specifically, BEV (battery electric vehicle) production was 299,000 units, reflecting a 19.6% y/y decrease, while sales were 287,000 units, reflecting an 18.2% y/y decrease. PHV (plug-in hybrid vehicle) production was 126,000 units, reflecting a 48.5% y/y increase, while sales were 121,000 units, reflecting a 42.5% y/y increase. FCV (fuel cell vehicle) production and sales were 1,000 units and 2,000 units, down 54.2% and 15.6% y/y, respectively.
Overall vehicle exports in January reached 301,000 units, reflecting a 30.1% y/y increase. Specifically, passenger vehicle exports totaled 250,000 units, reflecting a 35.6% y/y increase. Commercial vehicle exports totaled 50,000 units, reflecting an 8.1% y/y increase. NEV exports totaled 83,000 units, reflecting an increase of 48.2% y/y.
