Brazilian vehicle sales down 20.2% in 2016, production down 11.2%On January 5 the Associacao Nacional dos Fabricantes de Veiculos Automotores (ANFAVEA) announced that Brazilian new vehicle sales (including trucks and buses) in December fell 10.3% year-over-year (y/y) to 204,329 units.
Sales for the 2016 full year (January- December) dropped 20.2% y/y to 2,050,317 units.
Among by maker sales of passenger vehicles in 2016, General Motors saw a decrease of 8.0% to 304,560 units. Fiat Chrysler’s sales fell 30.6% to 249,986 units. VW sales decreased 36.2% to 185,327 units. For light commercial vehicles, FCA’s sales decreased 6.6% to 114,881 units, Toyota's sales jumped 38.4% to 45,631 units, and VW’s sales decreased 37.5% to 43,146 units.
The Federacao Nacional da Distribuicao de Veiculos Automotores announced passenger vehicle sales rankings by model for the year. The GM Onix took the top spot with sales of 153,372 units. The Hyundai HB20 was number 2 with 121,616 units, followed by the Ford KA with 76,616 units. For LCVs, the Fiat Strada took the top spot with sales of 59,449 units, followed by the Fiat Toro with 41,283 units, and the Toyota Hilux was number 3 with 34,031 units.
In ANFAVEA’s sales report by fuel type for the year, sales of flexible-fuel vehicles fell 20.2% y/y to 1,750,750 units (market share of 88.0%), diesel vehicles rose 4.5% to 156,259 units (market share of 7.9%), gasoline vehicles declined 40.9% to 80,493 units (market share of 4.0%), and hybrid and electric vehicles increased 29.0% to 1,091 units.
As for December production figures (excluding CKD production), units produced increased 40.6% to 200,887 units. Total production for the 2016 full year declined 11.2% to 2,157,379 units. Exports in December increased 36.1% to 62,941 units, and exports for the year increased 24.7% to 520,286 units.
Anfavea expects the sector to re-evolve in 2017 after four years of contraction in the domestic market. Anfavea expects a 4% increase in vehicle sales in 2017 to 2.13 million units. 2017 vehicle production may reach 2.41 million units, an increase of 11% compared to the 2016 result. Anfavea forecasts that the export should continue to expand in 2017 to 558,000 units with an increase of 7.2%.

Brazilian vehicle sales down 8.7% in November, production up 21.8%
On December 6 the Associacao Nacional dos Fabricantes de Veiculos Automotores (ANFAVEA) announced that Brazilian new vehicle sales (including trucks and buses) in November fell 8.7% year-over-year (y/y) to 178,156 units. Sales for the period January - November dropped 21.2% y/y to 1,845,988 units.
Among by maker sales of passenger vehicles, General Motors saw an increase of 3.8% to 28,210 units. Fiat Chrysler’s sales fell 19.3% to 23,045 units. Hyundai’s sales increased 19.0% to 16,535 units. For light commercial vehicles, FCA’s sales rose 28.3% to 10,075 units, GM's sales increased 32.5% to 4,613 units, and Toyota’s sales jumped 95.4% to 4,114 units.

In ANFAVEA’s sales report by fuel type, sales of flexible-fuel vehicles fell 9.8% y/y to 153,446 units (market share of 88.3%), diesel vehicles rose 31.3% to 13,779 units (market share of 7.9%), gasoline vehicles declined 28.9% to 6,362 units (market share of 3.7%), and hybrid and electric vehicles jumped 144.6% to 159 units.
As for November production figures (excluding CKD production), units produced increased 21.8% to 213,323 units. Total production for the period January - November declined 14.6% to 1,952,058 units. Exports in November increased 56.4% to 57,142 units, and exports for the period January - November increased 23.4% to 457,764 units.

Brazil new vehicle sales decline 17.2% in October, production falls 15.1%
On November 7 the Associacao Nacional dos Fabricantes de Veiculos Automotores (ANFAVEA) announced that Brazilian new vehicle sales (including trucks and buses) in October fell 17.2% year-over-year (y/y) to 159,037 units. Sales for the period January - October dropped 22.3% y/y to 1,667,832 units.
Among by maker sales of passenger vehicles, General Motors saw a decrease of 2.1% to 25,713 units. Fiat Chrysler’s sales fell 26.7% to 20,164 units. Hyundai’s sales increased 0.8% to 14,434 units. For light commercial vehicles, FCA’s sales rose 21.7% to 9,407 units, GM's sales decreased 1.6% to 4,028 units, and Toyota’s sales jumped 51.9% to 3,301 units.

In ANFAVEA’s sales report by fuel type, sales of flexible-fuel vehicles fell 17.1% y/y to 136,193 units (market share of 87.9%), diesel vehicles rose 11.6% to 12,004 units (market share of 7.7%), gasoline vehicles declined 35.5% to 6,719 units (market share of 4.3%), and hybrid and electric vehicles jumped 69.1% to 93 units.
As for October production figures (excluding CKD production), units produced fell 15.1% to 174,150 units. Total production for the period January - October declined 17.7% to 1,738,635 units. Exports in October fell 7.5% to 36,913 units, and exports for the period January - October increased 19.7% to 400,597 units.

Brazil new vehicle sales decline 20.1% in September, production falls 2.2%
On October 6 the Associação Nacional dos Fabricantes de Veículos Automotores (ANFAVEA) announced that Brazilian new vehicle sales (including trucks and buses) in September fell 20.1% year-over-year (y/y) to 159,961 units. Sales for the period January – September dropped 22.8% y/y to 1,508,795 units.
Among by maker sales of passenger vehicles, General Motors saw an increase of 3.0% to 23,975 units. Fiat Chrysler’s sales fell 39.1% to 17,714 units. Ford’s sales declined 19.5% to 14,823 units. For light commercial vehicles, FCA’s sales rose 1.3% to 8,867 units, GM had growth of 9.2% to 4,288 units, and Toyota’s sales jumped 42.5% to 3,916 units.

As for September production figures (excluding CKD production), units produced fell 2.2% to 170,815 units. Total production for the period January – September declined 18.5% to 1,553,951 units. Exports in September rose 15.8% to 38,779 units, and exports for the period January – September increased 19.2% to 351,175 units.
