Continuing from the previous installment, which covered state owned Chinese manufacturers, this report on Auto Shanghai 2017 will cover newly unveiled models, including environmentally-friendly vehicles and concept cars, from non-state owned automakers, both mainstay OEMs and emerging EV makers. At this motor show many companies exhibited MPVs and EV or PHV versions of popular models, in addition to SUV models. The participation of numerous emerging EV makers gave this show a unique feeling.

Geely Holding Group exhibited vehicles from its Volvo luxury brand, entry-level Geely brand, as well as concept cars and world premiere models to accompany the display of the first mass production model for the new LYNK & CO brand that was announced in 2016. The LYNK & CO booth was crowded with young attendees. Great Wall Motor unveiled a fully remodeled version of its smash hit Haval H6 SUV. The company also announced the names of two models from its new WEY brand that was announced in November 2016 and exhibited the vehicles. BYD exhibited the Song DM PHV model as the maker sought to make its presence felt as the largest maker of new energy vehicles (NEVs). Both Chery Automobile and JAC Motors unveiled new models from their flagship Tiggo and Refine brands. Zotye Automobile unveiled an EV city commuter and announced three new SUV models as well. Lifan Motors exhibited an EV version of the Refine 820.

Among the emerging EV makers, some companies were established by IT firms and startups. These companies attracted attention even though their capabilities are yet unknown. Tesla did not exhibit vehicles at this motor show.
