Summary

Continuing on from the previous installment, which covered European and American Manufacturers, this report will look at the environmentally friendly vehicles and world premiere models from Japanese and Korean automobile manufacturers at the 2016 Beijing Motor Show.

Similar to European and American manufacturers, Japanese manufacturers also value the Chinese market. However, at the 2016 Beijing Motor Show, the companies displayed few China exclusive models modified from pre-existing ones. Rather, automakers showed a number of new concepts and models that were developed from scratch to target the younger demographic in the Chinese market. Moreover, the exhibitions featured each companies unique technology along with their vehicle displays.

Specifically, Honda displayed models centering on SUVs like the Avancier, a flagship model exclusive to the Chinese Market, as well as the CDX from its Acura brand. Nissan showcased a broad lineup, ranging from entry models to premium vehicles. Mazda unveiled its new CX-4 crossover SUV for the first time. Aside from the Lexus brand IS, which has been slightly modified, Toyota had no world premieres, but the OEM highlighted its advanced technology by showcasing its FCV concept car, and displaying its hybrid system structure.

Meanwhile, although Korean manufacturers were lacking the momentum seen in previous Chinese motor shows, Hyundai revealed Korea’s first eco-car exclusive IONIQ, as well as detailed displays of the technology that underpins it. Also, Kia Motors appealed to younger generations by inviting the Korean pop group BIGBANG to their booth.
