Dongfeng Motor to expand independent brand car business to 2.0 million-unit scale by 2015

2011/10/25

Summary

Dongfeng Motor had sales of 2.62 million units in 2010, up by 38%. Increases in sales of passenger cars and commercial vehicles were noteworthy, up by 38% to 1.98 million units and 42% to 0.64 million units, respectively.

The year 2011 is the first year of the 12th five-year plan (medium term plans for significant projects, which the Chinese Government develops every five years). Dongfeng Motor made the company's five-year plans simultaneously. It announced the expansion for the whole group sales to five million units.

Upon assuming General Manager of Dongfeng Motor Corporation (the parent company of the whole group), Zhu Fushou laid the plan in April 2011 to expand the independent brand passenger car business immediately. He expressed the company objective to expand the current passenger car sales of 0.35 million units to two-million scale by 2015 by increasing the sales of the independent brand passenger cars including Dongfeng Fengshen.

Major manufacturers under the umbrella of the Group are stepping up their activities to achieve the objectives by reinforcing their production capacities and introducing new models according to their medium term plans as unveiled after 2009. The joint ventures with Nissan are building new plants one after another, and planning to expand production and sales volume to 2.3 million-unit scale by 2015. The joint venture with PSA started building new power train and assembling plants.
