According to the statistics of the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM), sales of new energy vehicles (NEVs) in the calendar year 2020 (January through December) rose 10.3% over the previous year to 1.359 million units. Monthly sales in December 2020 increased 51.5% compared to the same month in the previous year to nearly 248,000 units, marking the sixth consecutive month of year-over-year (y/y) growth.
Analysis of NEV Industry (Chinese Market)
EV
According to the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA), in the January through December 2020 period, sales of EV (electric vehicle) passenger cars by manufacturer were led by SAIC-GM-Wuling, followed by Tesla and BYD. However, with Tesla's launch of the new domestic Model Y in the New Year and a significant price cut for Model 3, Tesla is likely to take the top spot in January. Sales of SAIC-GM-Wuling, Tesla and BYD exceeded 110,000 units.

By model, the Tesla Model 3 and the SAIC-GM-Wuling Hongguang MINI are far ahead of the Great Wall Ora Adora in third place, the GAC Aion S in fourth place, and the BYD Qin in fifth place. Monthly sales volume exceeded 40,000 units for the Great Wall Ora Adora, GAC Aion S and BYD Qin.

PHV
Looking at the sales of plug-in hybrid (PHV) passenger cars by manufacturer in the January through December 2020 period, BYD, which ranked first, sold 52,000 units, with a 24.4% share. Leading Ideal, which ranked second, sold 33,000 units.
