Introduction

Automotive lamps are a group of components that combine the function of safety parts, which are mandated by law to be installed on vehicles that travel on public roads, and the function of design parts, which characterize the vehicle's design.

This report deals with five categories of automobile lighting devices: headlamps; AHB / ADB / AFS variable light distribution systems; rear lamps and rear combination lamps; high-mounted stop lamps; and electronic control units (ECUs, electrical ballasts, etc.). Reflectors, turn signals, fog lamps, license plate lamps, and interior lamps are not reported here.

Note:

  • AHB (Automatic High Beam): Automatically switches between high and low beam. The system automatically controls the high and low beams of the headlamps based on the position of vehicles in front, such as an oncoming or preceding vehicles. Allows early detection of pedestrians and other vehicles at night. Can also be used with halogen headlamps. Also called HBC (High Beam Control).
  • ADB (Adaptive Driving Beam, automatic anti-glare headlamps): Achieved using LED light sources. ADB is a headlamp system that uses a camera to detect preceding and oncoming vehicles, shades only the areas where these are, and illuminates other areas with high beams.
  • AFS (Adaptive Front Lighting System, horizontal light axis controllable system): A preventive safety system that adjusts the headlight beam direction based on steering input to ensure a clear view ahead. This is an old and expensive system that swings the lamps from side to side by means of actuators. It was not often installed in practice, but with the recent shift to LED headlamps, the system has become simpler and its adoption more widespread. There are methods such as placing LEDs in different orientations and turning on the necessary LEDs according to the direction of travel.
