Commercial Vehicle Electrification Integration: e-Axle & Thermal Management
IAA 2026: Drivetrain integration, high voltage & electrification
Summary
At IAA Transportation 2026, many exhibits indicated that commercial-vehicle electrification technologies are moving from the demonstration stage toward mass production and broader deployment. For heavy-duty commercial vehicles, key challenges include not only driving range and payload, but also operating efficiency and total cost of ownership (TCO) compared with diesel vehicles. Suppliers are therefore pursuing improvements in overall vehicle energy efficiency, extending beyond the efficiency of individual motors to drivetrain integration with e-Axles, higher-voltage architectures, hybridization, and the electrification of auxiliaries such as air compressors, cooling systems, and HVAC.
This report reviews the exhibits of major suppliers from the perspectives of electric drivetrains and electrified auxiliaries/thermal management.
