Summary
The Automotive Engineering Exposition 2026 Yokohama was held from May 27 (Wednesday) to May 29 (Friday), 2026, at the Pacifico Yokohama convention and exhibition center, and organized by the Society of Automotive Engineers of Japan, Inc. (JSAE). This is a trade show for professionals where companies showcase their latest technologies in areas such as automobiles, components, materials, and engineering.
This report introduces control technologies, components, and development technologies related to AD/ADAS (Autonomous Driving/Advanced Driver-Assistance Systems). A notable feature at this expo was the increased number of exhibits from OEMs (i.e., automakers). In recent years, there have been too few exhibits from passenger car OEMs due to the stagnation of Level 3 technology, but the use of AI has led to the introduction of new control systems. In conjunction with this, many Tier 1 suppliers exhibited high-performance, centralized ECUs (electronic control units). Furthermore, the introduction of steering and brake actuators that do not require a redundant mechanical backup for autonomous driving gives the impression that the hurdles to the practical implementation of autonomous driving have been lowered. JSAE 2026 in Yokohama was an expo that sparked anticipation for the implementation of autonomous driving.
