With its vision of becoming a global automotive technology pioneer by 2035, the VW Group continues to focus on technology development for its customers, accelerating its "In China, For China" localization strategy and rebuilding its R&D structure in China. Product development cycles have been shortened by 30% and costs reduced by 40%. The company plans to release approximately 40 models by 2027, of which more than 20 will be NEVs. In addition, the company will launch approximately 30 EVs in China by 2030, and will offer electrified vehicles across all its brands.
Against this backdrop, at the Auto Shanghai 2025 motor show VW showcased the latest achievements in the fields of electrification and intelligence, and presented their progress of technological development and local production models. VW exhibited brand three new ID. brand concept vehicles for the Chinese market: the ID. AURA (a sedan), ID. ERA (a full-size SUV with range extender), and ID. EVO (a smaller SUV). The Audi brand announced the “Q6L e-tron” family and the “A6L e-tron”, EV models based on the PPE (Premium Platform Electric) and powered by a CATL battery, as well as several new models. VW also announced the “E5 Sportback”, the first EV model under the new Audi brand equipped with multiple intelligent technologies and advanced driver assistance features. The "A5L" and the new "Q5L," both of which use the Audi E³ 1.2 E/E architecture, were also on display, demonstrating the company's technological development capabilities in the intelligent connected field. The entire VW group is strengthening its connectivity products.
