According to MarkLines data, Chongqing Changan Automobile Co., Ltd. (Changan)’s sales volume (factory shipments) has been on an upward trend in recent years. In 2024, sales volume grew 4.8% year-over-year (y/y) to 2,343,000 units, making it the sixth largest Chinese group in the Chinese market. The breakdown shows 2,202,000 units for its own-brands and 323,000 units for foreign JV brands. Passenger car sales volume was 2 million, NEV passenger car (New Energy Vehicle: BEV+PHV) sales volume totaled 674,000 units, while light commercial vehicles reached 343,000 units.
Changan has set a sales volume target of 3 million units in 2025. Of this total, 1 million will be own-brand NEVs and 1 million exports. The goal is to reach 5 million units by 2030. This will include 3.5 million NEV units, with overseas share at 30%.
Changan is focusing on the battery field. The company launched its Golden Shield battery brand in 2023. By 2030, the company plans to introduce batteries researched and developed in-house into eight models and increase its production capacity to 150GWh. It is also deepening its partnership with Contemporary Amperex Technology Co., Ltd. (CATL), with a battery joint venture (CATL-Changan EV Battery Co., Ltd.) already in operation.
In February 2025, the company announced its Dubhe Plan 2.0 intelligentization strategy. The company stated that it would stop developing non-intelligent products in 2025 and achieve automated driving Level 3 (L3) capability in 2026. It will also deepen its partnership with Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd. (Huawei) to promote the application of intelligent technologies such as the Qiankun smart driving system and the Harmony cockpit.
