In Europe, international motor shows are held in Munich in odd-numbered years and in Paris in even-numbered years. This year, the Paris Motor Show (Mondial de l'Automobile de Paris) was held from October 14 to 20. While few manufacturers outside of France and China participated in the previous 2022 show, which was still suffering from the aftereffects of the COVID pandemic, major OEMs from Germany, the U.S., and Korea participated this time, making the exhibition lively and worthy of being called an "International Motor Show”.
Renault made its presence felt by exhibiting a large number of its 5 E-Tech Electric and 4 E-Tech Electric BEVs (battery electric vehicles), which are based on the motif of its former legendary cars, the 5 (Cinq) and 4 (Quatre). Among the German brands, Audi caught the eye by showcasing its new HMI in its new generation vehicles, including the Q6 e-tron. American OEMs also gave a glimpse of a new trend unfolding with GM announcing the Cadillac Optiq BEV that it plans to sell in Europe. Japanese OEMs, on the other hand, did not participate.
In this report, we analyze the HMIs of the vehicles exhibited at this year's Paris Motor Show, confirm current HMI (Human Machine Interface) trends, and describe the HMI features of major vehicles.
Many Chinese manufacturers participated, exhibiting their latest BEVs, occupying almost one of the three exhibition halls. In addition to AITO, a premium EV brand jointly established by Huawei and Seres, many BEVs were introduced and exhibited by BYD, XPeng, Dongfeng Forthing, Hongqi, and others.
As in previous years, Chinese manufacturers continued to show remarkable momentum, proudly using such phrases as "world's first" and "world's best" during their presentation announcements. The evolution of HMI in Chinese cars will be closely watched in the future as well. The cute robots that were displayed at the Chinese car exhibits were a very Asian and familiar touch for the author.
