The GSMA Mobile World Congress Barcelona, in short

MWC™ Barcelona, is an annual four-day event organized by the GSM Association.

It is the largest and most influential event for the connectivity ecosystem and brings together global mobile operators, device manufacturers, technology providers, vendors and content owners.

Like last year it was held at the Fira Gran Via exhibition site in Barcelona from February, 26th to 29th 2024. This year’s motto was “FUTURE FIRST”.

The event was initiated in 1987, and it is now Europe’s largest mobile communications fair.

The 2024 MWC™ Barcelona hosted over　2,700 exhibitors, including 930 start-ups and it was visited by 101,000 attendees from 205 countries and territories.

It is the first event of the 2024 MWC™ series and will be followed by the MWC™ Shanghai, which is scheduled for 26-28 June 2024, the MWC™ Las Vegas, which is planned for 8-10 October 2024 and finally the MWC™ Kigali, which will be held from 29-31 October 2024.

Like last year a whole hall was dedicated to start-up companies in the framework of the 4YFN (Four Years from Now) program. The number of start-ups increased from around 800 last year to 930 this year. The goal of the 4YFN event is to support start-ups, investors and companies to connect and launch new business ventures together.

On February 27, the 5G Automotive Association (5GAA) organized a press tour that gave participants the opportunity to get an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at the technologies and initiatives being driven by 5GAA member companies such as Deutsche Telekom, Harman, Vodafone, Qualcomm, Autotalks, Keysight, Rohde & Schwarz, DEKRA and MediaTek.

5GAA’s Chief Technology Officer Maxime Flament explained that the innovations unveiled by these companies will drive vehicle connectivity to unprecedented levels, from satellite-based Non-Terrestrial Networks (NTNs) to 5G-V2X communications or vulnerable road user protection at scale.

This is part one, in which we will have a deeper dive into each member company’s activities.

Part two will focus on the concept cars and latest automotive trends, which could be discovered at the show.

Next year’s MWC™ Barcelona will take place from 3-6 March 2025.
