Mr. Atsushi Osaki assumed the position of President and CEO of Subaru Corporation (Subaru) in June 2023, and announced its “New Management Policy” in August. New targets have been set for global sales of 1.2 million units in 2030 including BEV (battery electric vehicles) sales of 600,000 units (50% of sales). The company will also manufacture BEVs in the United States. Management resources will be concentrated on BEVs, and Subaru will tackle two initiatives, "Monozukuri (manufacturing) Innovation" and "Value Creation" with the year 2028 as a milestone.
Subaru unveiled the Levorg Layback SUV for the Japanese market at the Japan Mobility Show in October 2023. The Subaru Sport Mobility Concept, BEV concept model, and Subaru Air Mobility Concept were on display as reference exhibits. At the Los Angeles Auto Show held in November 2023, the all-new (6th generation) Forester (U.S. spec) made its world premiere.
Sales in the U.S., which account for nearly 70% of Subaru's global sales, are on track with the recovery of production volume and are planned to reach 686,000 units in FY2023 (up 15.9% from the previous year). The company has agreed with Tesla to adopt the North American Charging Standard (NACS) for the charging ports of BEVs to be sold in North America starting in 2025.
