The 2015 Telematics Update Detroit exhibition (TU-Automotive Detroit) was held from June 3 through June 4, 2015, in Novi, Michigan, U.S. Over 3,000 people attended the two-day exhibition, which featured three main focus areas in its exhibition area and discussion sessions: telematics, mobility, and autonomous vehicles. Representatives from a wide range of companies presented perspectives and solutions about issues facing the automotive industry and about societal impacts of recent technological advances.

This report is the first of three reports which focuses on the discussion sessions presented at TU-Automotive Detroit. This report focuses on general themes revolving around autonomous vehicles such as societal concerns in autonomous technology; driver considerations during autonomous operations; and how experiences in other ventures carry over to autonomous development. Specific ideas that are mentioned include the importance of trust and understanding of autonomous technology and its limits, the possibility of an increasing number of drivers with lesser driving skills, and considerations for specific scenarios when developing autonomous operations.

A second report and third report will be released at a later date focusing on issues surrounding vehicle connectivity and infotainment systems respectively.
