Summary
The SAE 2013 World Congress in Detroit saw the return of the same six OEMs from the previous year (Chrysler, GM, Ford, Honda, Nissan and Hyundai). As this year's host company, Chrysler had the largest exhibit space among the North American OEMs.
The theme of the Congress this year is "Achieving Efficiency." Efficiency is needed to reinvent the next generation of responsible vehicle propulsion. Automotive engineers have an important role in realizing this goal and being stewards of the planet's natural resources. Chrysler Vice President of Powertrain Transmission & Driveline Engineering and SAE 2013 General Chairman Dr. Mircea Gradu expressed this when he said, "As we strive to achieve efficiency, the resulting significant and exciting challenges are once again positioning the automobile industry as the industry of choice for the world's best and brightest engineering minds."
This report highlights the technologies that were on display during the show on April 16-18, 2013 by the six participating OEMs.
