The Maruti Suzuki Wagon R, first launched in 1999, is a long-selling model that competes with the Hyundai Creta for the top spot in the Indian market. The current model is the third generation, launched in 2019.

Because it is a long-selling model, parts are sourced almost exclusively from domestic Indian suppliers.
Among Indian-owned companies are Bharat Seats (seats), Motherson (wire harnesses), Subros (HVAC), FPI Auto (bumpers), and Lunax (lamps).
Foreign-owned companies include GKN (drive shafts) and JTEKT (power steering), among others.
