Business Overview

-GKN‘s China business:

  • In 1988, the joint venture with HUAYU Automotive Systems Company Limited in China, Shanghai GKN HUAYU Drive System Co., Ltd., was established to manufacture drive shafts.
  • In 2007, GKN China Holding Co., Ltd. was established and became the regional headquarters in 2008. The Company mainly produces isometric universal drive shafts, cross universal drive shafts and other transmission system components.
  • On March 29, 2018, Melrose Industries (Melrose) acquired GKN. After the acquisition, GKN split into several business units and became part of Melrose. In the same year, Dana Inc. merged with GKN's driveline business unit, GKN Driveline, to form a new company, Dana plc (Dana). The new company is owned 52.75% by Dana and 47.25% by GKN.
  • On April 20, 2023, Dowlais Group demerged GKN Automotive, GKN Powder Metallurgy, and GKN Hydrogen from Melrose Industries and took over their respective businesses. It's worth noting that on the same day, Dowlais Group was approved for listing on the London Stock Exchange.

History

May 1988 Shanghai GKN HUAYU Driveline Systems Co., Ltd. was established as a joint venture by five companies: GKN Automotive AG (Germany), Shanghai Automotive Co., Ltd., SDIC Machinery & Light Industries corp. Ltd., DEG-German Investment & Development Co., Ltd. (Germany), and Bank of Communication Shanghai Branch.
Oct. 1996 Shanghai Kangqiao new plant began operating.
Oct. 2001 The Company's Technical Center in Shanghai began operating.
Dec. 2002 A manufacturing line for precision forgings was completed in Shanghai Zhoupu Plant.
Mar. 2005 GKN Zhongyuan Cylinder Liner Co., Ltd. was established as a joint venture by GKN and Henan Zhongyuan Engine Fittings Co., Ltd..
Jan. 2006 GKN Sinter Metals (Danyang) Industrial Co., Ltd. was established.
Nov. 2006 Shanghai GKN Drive Shaft Co., Ltd. and China South Industries Automotive Holdings Co., Ltd. (CSIMC) jointly established GKN Drive Shaft (Chongqing) Co., Ltd. to manufacture driveshafts.
2007 Shanghai GKN HUAYU Driveline Systems Torque Technology Company was established.
Apr. 2008 Shanghai GKN Wuhan Plant started construction.
May. 2010 Shanghai GKN Changchun Plant started construction.
June 2011 Shanghai GKN Changchun Plant was finished and put into operation.
Aug. 2012 The second plant of Shanghai GKN in Wuhan started construction.
Sep. 2012 GKN Sinter Metals Yizheng Ltd. was established.
April 2013 Shanghai Shenjiang Plant expansion started construction.
April 2013 Shanghai GKN Drive Shaft Co., Ltd. changed its name to Shanghai GKN HUAYU Driveline Systems Co., Ltd.
Jul. 2013 The second plant of Shanghai GKN in Wuhan was finished and put into operation.
Oct. 2018 Shanghai GKN HUAYU Driveline Systems Co., Ltd., the Company's subsidiary, established a new technical center.
