Business Overview

-The Company is a French manufacturer and a global leader in the development and manufacturing of components and systems focused on exterior body assemblies, energy storage systems, pollution reduction systems and front end modules.

-The Company’s operations are organized across two segments divided into four business lines as follows:

  • Plastic Omnium Industries
    • Intelligent Exterior Systems: Business line for developing and manufacturing complex exterior assemblies made primarily from polypropylene and composite materials such as bumpers, spoilers, fenders, and underbody modules. The business line focuses on reducing greenhouse gas emissions through weight reduction and improved aerodynamics of their components
    • Clean Energy Systems: Business line for developing and manufacturing clean energy storage systems and fuel systems, including blown polyethylene fuel tanks for ICE and hybrid vehicles, as well as emission aftertreatment systems for diesel engines.
    • New Energies: New business line which spun off from the Clean Energy System business line in 2021 to develop components and systems related to alternative energy in mobility, particularly in hydrogen focused systems. The business line will develop and manufacture systems including high pressure hydrogen storage tanks, fuel cell systems, and energy management and control solutions.
  • Plastic Omnium Modules: Segment which features the HBPO joint venture with Hella that focuses on developing and manufacturing automotive front-end modules business line for front-end module development and manufacturing.

-The Company’s Intelligent Exterior Systems business line is the global market leader in painted bumpers, producing approximately 21 million painted bumpers and obtaining a 15% market share in 2021. Its Clean Energy Systems business line is the market leader in blow-molded polyethylene fuel systems, manufacturing 18 million systems for a 21% global market share in 2021. Finally, HBPO is the market leader in front-end modules, producing 5 million modules for an 18% market share in 2021.

-ElringKlinger and the Company announced the creation of a joint venture, EKPO Fuel Cell Technologies, dedicated to fuel cell stack development, production and commercialization. ElringKlinger will own 60% of the joint venture while the Company owns the remaining 40%. ElringKlinger will contribute more than 150 employees, more than 150 patents, field expertise, its fuel cell components business, and several high-power density fuel cell stack platforms already marketed and manufactured at a facility located in Dettingen an der Erms, where the joint venture will also be headquartered. The Company will invest EUR 100 million in the joint venture to accelerate development, enhance commercialization and increase production capacities. The joint venture’s initial annual production capacity of 10,000 units will be progressively extended based on future orders. EKPO Fuel Cell Technologies aims to achieve a market share between 10% and 15% in the fuel cell technology business by 2030, representing revenues between EUR 700 million and 1 billion.
