This new plant is dedicated to the manufacturing and sales of automotive lighting. The Company is aiming at achieving an annual headlamp production capacity of 1 million units at this facility in 2009. (From a press release on Sep. 2, 2008)

-In February 2009, the Company announced its consolidated forecasts for the fiscal year ending March 2009, largely revised downwardly, and temporary closure of its two plants in Japan as emergency measures. Since production cut by automakers has been prolonged, it has decided to close Kikkawa Plant, one of its four plants in Shizuoka Pref., Japan, from June. The production items there will be manufactured at Sagara Plant, Shizuoka Pref. At Koito Kyushu Ltd., its consolidated subsidiary, the Plant No. 2 will be closed in March and its operations will be consolidated into the Plant No. 1. Excess workers will be laid-off and fixed costs including the power expense will be squeezed. (From an article in the Nikkan Jidosha Shimbun on Feb. 28, 2009)

Recent Developments Outside Japan
<Thailand>
-In May 2008, the Company announced that it will postpone completion of its fourth Thai plant, scheduled at the end of FY 2008, for one year. It has decided to complete the construction in January 2010 to start mass production in the spring of 2010. The Company acquired the site in the beginning of 2007 and has advanced the project, while growth has been expected for orders and production volume including those for exports. It has, therefore, started to review the project including its production scale. The new plant will be an integrated plant to manufacture headlamps and rear combination lamps. With the new plant start-up, the Company aims to raise its FY 2011 operating scale in Thailand to 27 billion yen, up 40% from FY 2007. (From an article in the Nikkan Jidosha Shimbun on May 15, 2008)

<China>
-In September 2008, the Company has decided to start production in North China as early as mid-2010. It has already purchased a plant site in the vicinity of Tianjin, where Toyota produces small vehicles, and started studies to begin mass production in mid-2010. The final decision will be made by mid-2009 based on assessment of China market future growth and development of manufacturers in North China. Currently the Company has automotive lamp plants in three regions of China; Shanghai, Guangzhou and Fuzhou. Another plant in North China will be established as its production and supply base for the coastal provinces, where most of vehicle demand in China originated.
