Business Highlights

Financial overview

- For FY2011, the Company sold 370,000 diesel engines. The total sales of the Company in 2010 was 10.3 billion yuan.

- The Company produced and sold more than 100,000 engines during the first quarter of 2012. The company, which was ranked third largest Chinese engine seller in 2011, came in second for the term. Its market share also climbed from the previous year by 4.5 percentage points. The company enjoyed favorable sales to the FAW Group, especially of the Aowei series 9-liter and 11-liter engines, with sales of the 11-liter engines reaching 5,800 units. Sales to bus manufacturers were also strong, with public buses installed with the company’s engines operating in many cities. The company started full-scale production at its new diesel engine plant in Huishan, Wuxi, while its research and development division accelerating development in the area of new energy vehicles and hybrid vehicles. Orders 

- The Company is enjoying strong sales of natural gas engines. The company, which supplied the CA6SN1-42E4N1 420hp natural gas engines for 100 Jiefang mining trucks purchased by a coal company in Heilongjiang, will also supply the CA6SN1-39E4N2 liquefied natural gas engine to 50 Jiefang trucks, which will be used by a coal supplier in ShanxiProvince. The CA6SN1-39E4N2 engine was developed based on the Aowei CA6DN1.The new engine with a lightweight LNG tank and adopting the Econtrol combustion gas control system of the U.S. offers a longer driving range and improved fuel economy compared with CNG engines. - The Company, which achieved a 25.23 percent increase in sales of bus engines in 2011, is maintaining strong business this year. Its sales in January and February reached the new records for the months by going up 34.52 percent and 30 percent from the results in the previous year, respectively. Brisk sales were significant in the liquefied natural gas engine segment as well as engines for public buses used in large cities such as ShanghaiTianjin and Shenyang. In the area of engines for school buses, the company won new programs in GuilinGuangzhou and Zhuhai, in addition to supplying 302 engines to Changan Automobile. - The Company has supplied 380 natural gas engines to Changzhou Huanghai buses, which are used in the public transportation systems of Changzhou City. Three-hundred buses mounted with these engines have already been in operation since April 18. The L-series natural gas engines meet the China lV emissions standard. They are equipped with an air-fuel control system consisting of electronic control throttle valves, oxygen sensors and electronic exhaust valves, which accurately controls air and gas to offer significant improvements in fuel economy and environmental responsiveness. Compared with existing engines, the new natural gas engine uses less gas (3 to 5 cubic meters less per 100 kilometers of driving). Dedicated production lines

- Quanzhou Yida Electric Vehicle Co., Ltd., which supplies vehicle parts to the Company, started operation on its dedicated production line to manufacture the CA6DL/M starters for the automaker.  According to Quanzhou Yida Electric Vehicle, the new production line it designed in-house can satisfy the high quality standards of FAW Jiefang Automotive. - On October 25, 2011, ASIMCO Camshaft (Yizheng) Co., Ltd. and ASIMCO Yizheng Shuanghuan Piston Ring Co., Ltd. in the ASIMCO Group held a ceremony at each facility to celebrate the completion of dedicated production lines to produce components for FAW Jiefang Automotive’s CA6DL diesel engines Co., Ltd. FAW Jiefang Automotive Co., Ltd. Wuxi Diesel Engine Works is promoting construction of dedicated parts production lines for the CA6DL diesel engines for 30 different components at each of its suppliers, including ASIMCO Camshaft (Yizheng) and ASIMCO Yizheng Shuanghuan Piston that were chosen as the members of the first-phase project. The new camshaft and piston ring production operations at the two subsidiaries have been approved as dedicated production lines for the CA6DL diesel engines. ASIMCO Yizheng Shuanghuan Piston Ring Co., Ltd. already has some production lines dedicated for making components for Weichai Power and other customers. (From a press release, October 25, 2011) 

 

Building new facility 

- At the end of 2011,the Company has completed the first phase of its construction project for a new diesel engine plant for heavy-duty vehicles in Huishan, Wuxi, and started its operations. The company has already spent 1.67 billion yuan on the first phase of the 2-billion-yuan-project. By March 2012 the plant will have the capacity to produce 50,000 CA6DM 11-liter diesel engines a year. The second phase of the construction program has already begun to increase its cylinder block production capacity for 6DM engines to 75,000 units a year with an investment of 520 million yuan. The new operation is planned to start at the end of 2012. The construction project is included in the FAW Group’s 12th five-year business plan. The third phase of the project is to be completed at the end of 2014, and its yearly production capacity its expected to climb to 250,000 engines in the future. During 2011, the company sold 370,000 engines, generating 10.3 billion yuan in sales and 250 million yuan in profit. It aims to sell 400,000 engines and achieve sales of 11.8 billion yuan in 2012. - On July 12, the Company broke ground at the plant site of a production facility being built to produce heavy-duty diesel engines. The company is investing 2 billion yuan in this project, aiming to initially launch a production line in March 2012 capable of producing 50,000 11-liter CA6DM engines a year. Export diesel engines to Iran

Product development

- On September 13, 2011 the CA4DL1-26E5 hybrid vehicle engine manufactured by the Company passed an installation testing on the Higer KLQ6129GHE21 bus manufactured by King Long United (Suzhou). This engine uses a single shaft, parallel hybrid system based on the Aowei CA4DL diesel engine paired with an ISG motor. It offers more than a 25 percent improvement in fuel economy, while achieving the high level of power performance of the Aowei engine technology. - The Company has been working on its project to develop and industrialize high-power, natural gas engines as parts of the Jiangsu Province’s Science and Technology Industrialization Project for 2011. On August 9, 2011, the program was inspected by specialists. The company has developed a series of natural gas engine integrated with an electronic control unit; with their power levels ranging from 170hp to 420hp. No other Chinese company has ever produced natural gas engines of more than 380hp. Some of the company’s natural gas engines are already featured on FAW Jiefang’s J5 and J6 trucks, which are highly valued by users. Some are tested on public buses in both Jiangyin City, Jiangsu Province and Luzhou CitySichuan Province. The engines meeting the China IV emissions standards offer a 3 to 5 percent improvement in fuel economy compared with existing products of their kind in the market. In addition, their noise levels are 3db lower than diesel engines. The company is currently applying for 2 patents, in addition to 4 patents and 1 software copyright it has already obtained for the technology. (From a press release, August 10, 2011)
