Teardown Analysis of Tesla Model Y

Overview

The Model Y is Tesla’s first SUV and deliveries began in March 2020. Munro & Associates, Inc. purchased a Model Y early and conducted a teardown analysis.

 All disassembled components are analyzed using Munro Quick Cost Estimate, Munro’s cost analysis system.

 

 Zone Quick-Costed Bill of Material (CBOM)
 The CBOM shows cost, material, and weight of each component.

 

Electrical Topology / Harness Wiring Diagram
The harness wiring diagram includes mounting positions of electronic components, high/low voltage harness layout, etc.

 

Cooling Topology / Cooling System Diagram

Vehicle Fit, Finish & Quality report (FFQ™)

3. Tesla Model Y Thermal Systems Report

The Model Y is equipped with a unique thermal system which includes a coolant flow control component that Tesla calls Octovalve. Munro & Associates has created a benchmark report that analyzes the details.

“The Tesla Model Y is the best car in the world”

Among middle range crossover vehicles, it is the most technically advanced electric vehicle, and while using many Model 3 components, it has excellent quietness and acceleration performance; the implementation of its innovative thermal management system (Octovalve) is highly acknowledged.

In addition, he refers to Sandy Munro’s activities in which he explains the technical breakthroughs of the Model Y in detail by video, praising him as an EV hero.
