Overview

The Model Y is Tesla’s first SUV and deliveries began in March 2020. Munro & Associates, Inc. purchased a Model Y early and conducted a teardown analysis.

Teardown Vehicle

• The subject vehicle was the highest grade “Performance model with Performance Upgrade” version with Autopilot.
• AWD, equipped with front and rear drive motors.

• Electric opening/closing trunk

　From the results of observing each component of the vehicle, points of interest and issues are explained from the viewpoint of cost and weight.

　Zone Quick Cost Estimate Report
　All disassembled components are analyzed using Munro Quick Cost Estimate, Munro’s cost analysis system.

　Zone Quick-Costed Bill of Material (CBOM)
　The CBOM shows cost, material, and weight of each component.

Electrical Topology / Harness Wiring Diagram
The harness wiring diagram includes mounting positions of electronic components, high/low voltage harness layout, etc.

Cooling Topology / Cooling System Diagram

Vehicle Fit, Finish & Quality report (FFQ™)
The report presents conformity of product surfaces (height difference), operating force of each component, weights, and dimensional measurements of all the gaps.

The Model Y is equipped with a unique thermal system which includes a coolant flow control component that Tesla calls Octovalve. Munro & Associates has created a benchmark report that analyzes the details.

• Air conditioning circuit diagram and control system
• System components (heat pump, temperature sensors, wire harness, coolant piping, etc.)

②Thermal System Cost Analysis: $2,975 USD
Summarizes component names, materials, costs, and weights.

③Octovalve CT Scan: $2,550 USD
The Octovalve and manifold are photographed from various angles to reveal the internal structure (dimensions, volume, plate thickness, etc.).
