-ZF entered China in 1981 and China has become one of ZF's most important strategic markets. Currently, Asia Pacific sales, mainly in China, account for 24% of ZF Group's global sales, with the goal of increasing the share to 30% by 2030.

-ZF offers mobility system solutions for passenger cars, commercial vehicles and industrial technology. In the four technology areas of vehicle motion control, integrated safety systems, autonomous driving and electric drives, ZF offers comprehensive product and software solutions for existing car manufacturers as well as start-up mobility service providers.

-ZF sets up its Asia-Pacific headquarters in Shanghai. Nearly 50 production companies and four R&D centers have been established in more than 20 major cities, including Shanghai, Beijing, Tianjin, Chongqing and Hangzhou.

History

1988 ZF established a Chinese representative office in Beijing.
Dec. 1994 ZF and the SAIC Group jointly established ZF Shanghai Steering Co., Ltd. to manufacture steering systems and related products. The joint venture company became affiliated under ZF Lenksysteme in 1999.
Dec. 1995 ZF Lemforder and Shanghai Motor Vehicle & Auto Parts Co., Ltd. jointly established Shanghai Lemforder Automotive Components Co., Ltd. to manufacture chassis components.
Dec. 1995 The Company and Guangxi Liugong Machnery Co., Ltd. jointly established Liuzhou ZF Machinery Co., Ltd. in order to produce transmissions.
Apr. 1998 ZF Sachs AG established Sachs Automotive Components & Systems Shanghai Co., Ltd., a 100 percent subsidiary, to manufacture shock absorbers in Shanghai.
Aug. 1998 ZF established ZF Drivetech (Suzhou) Co., Ltd., a 100 percent subsidiary to produce driveline systems for buses in Suzhou City, Jiangsu Province.
Mar. 2000 ZF Sachs AG and Shanghai Huizhong Automotive Mfg. Co., Ltd. of the SAIC Group jointly set up Shanghai Sachs Huizhong Shock Absorber Co., Ltd. to make shock absorbers.
May 2001 ZF Lenksysteme and the Jincheng Group jointly created ZF Steering Jincheng (Nanjing) Co., Ltd. to make steering pumps.
Jan. 2002 ZF Sachs AG and the SAIC Group established Shanghai Sachs Powertrain Components Systems Co., Ltd., a joint venture company to manufacture powertrain products.
Jan. 2003 ZF Lemforder set up ZF Lemforder Automotive Systems (Shenyang) Co. Ltd., a wholly owned subsidiary to make axle systems in Shenyang City, Liaoning Province.
April 2003 ZF Lemforder Metalwaren AG established ZF Chassistech Commercial Vehicles (Shanghai) Co., Ltd., a wholly owned subsidiary to produce chassis components in Shanghai.
Nov. 2003 ZF Lemforder Metalwaren AG and Fawer Automotive Parts Co. ,Ltd. jointly established ZF FAWER Chassis Technology Co. Ltd. to manufacture axle modules and chassis components.
June 2004 ZF and Shanghai Automotive Co., Ltd. jointly created ZF Transmission Shanghai Co., Ltd. to manufacture automatic transmissions. The joint venture company became operational in September 2006.
Jan. 2005 The Company was established in Shanghai as ZF' s Chinese headquarters.
May 2005 ZF Lemforder and Shanghai Motor Vehicle & Auto Parts Co., Ltd. jointly set up ZF Lemforder Shanghai Chassistech Co., Ltd. to make chassis parts.
May 2005 ZF Boge Elastmetall and Anhui Ningguo Zhongding Co., Ltd. established Shanghai ZF Zhongding NVH Co., Ltd., a joint venture to make noise and vibration control rubber metal parts.
June 2005 ZF Sachs AG and Dongfeng Shock Absorber Co., Ltd. jointly created ZF Dongfeng Shock Absorber Shiyan Co. Ltd. to manufacture shock absorbers for commercial vehicles.
Sep. 2005 ZF invested 100 percent of the needed capital, and established ZF Drivetech (Hangzhou) Co., Ltd. to make transmission systems for heavy-duty commercial vehicles in Hangzhou City, Zhejiang Province. The wholly owned subsidiary started operations in June 2006.
Oct. 2005 ZF Lenksysteme cooperated with the China National Heavy Duty Truck Group, and established ZF Commercial Vehicle Steering (Shandong) Co., Ltd. to manufacture steering systems and related products for commercial vehicles. The new company is owned 100 percent by ZF Lenksysteme.
Dec. 2007 ZF Boge Elastmetall established ZF Boge Elastmetall (Shanghai) Co., Ltd., a wholly owned subsidiary in Shanghai to manufacture NVH products, which reduce noise, vibration and harshness coming from chassis and driveline systems.
May. 2010 ZF Shanghai Steering Systems Co., Ltd. established its subsidiary ZF Shanghai Steering Systems (Yantai) Co., Ltd. to manufacture steering systems.
2012 ZF Chassis Systems (Beijing) Co. Ltd. was established.
Nov. 2013 ZF Shanghai Steering Systems Co., Ltd. established its wholly subsidiary ZF Shanghai Steering Systems (Wuhan) Co., Ltd.
Sep. 2014 ZF Friedrichshafen AG announced that it entered into a definitive agreement with U.S.-based TRW under which ZF would acquire TRW for approximately USD 12,400 million. The transaction is expected to close in the first half of 2015.
BAIC ZF (Beijing) Automotive Chassis System Co., Ltd. was established by ZF Friedrichshafen AG and Beijing Automotive Industry Corporation (BAIC Group) in the Beijing Economic and Technological Development Area (BDA).
Jan. 2015 ZF Friedrichshafen AG sold all of its 50% stake in the steering systems joint venture ZF Lenksysteme to the joint venture partner Robert Bosch. The Chinese subsidiaries of ZF Lenksysteme would be merged into Robert Bosch.

Nov. 2015

ZF TRW announced that its two new plants, one for brake systems and the other for occupant safety systems, in Zhangjiagang, Jiangsu began operating.

Apr. 2016

ZF TRW announced that it has opened a crash sled section at its Anting Technical Centre in China.

Apr. 2017

Second phase of ZF's Songjiang technical center starts operation.

Apr. 2019

ZF-Foton Automation Transmission (Jiaxing) Co., Ltd., a joint venture between ZF Group and Beiqi Foton Motor Co., Ltd., began production.

Mar. 2020

ZF China signed a joint venture agreement with Wolong Electric Group Co., Ltd. for establishment of a joint venture named Wolong ZF Automotive Electric Motors Co., Ltd.

Apr. 2020

ZF Commercial Vehicle Technology (Jiaxing) Co., Ltd. and ZF Drivetech (Jiaxing) Co., Ltd. were established.

Jan. 2021

ZF officially establishes the Electrified Powertrain Technology division on January 1, 2021.

Apr. 2021

The subsidiary ZF Electric Mobility Technologies (Shenyang) Co., Ltd. began construction of an electric drive system manufacturing plant.

Jun. 2021

ZF Asia Pacific Headquarters was operated.

Jan. 2022

ZF establishes the new “Commercial Vehicle Solutions” (CVS) division January 1, 2022.

Mar. 2022

ZF Guangzhou Technical Center recently officially broke ground.
