Auto sales in Vietnam down 16.3% in December, down 10.4% in 2017
According to the Vietnam Automobile Manufacturers Association (VAMA) report issued on January 10, automobile sales (including non-VAMA manufactures) in Vietnam were down 16.3% year on year to 27,882 units in December. CKD volume was 20,047 units, and CBU volume was 7,835 units.
2017 annual sales were down 10.4% to 272,750 units. CKD volume was down 14.9% to 194,960 units, and CBU volume was up 3.1% to 77,790 units.
VAMA members (20 manufactures) sales in 2017 were down 7.8% to 250,619 units. VAMA members passenger car sales were down 7.8%, commercial vehicles were down 5.6%, and special purpose vehicles were down 23.6%.
By brand sales in 2017 based on MarkLines Data Center figures, Truong Hai was down 21.2% to 63,164 units. Toyota (excluding Lexus) was up 4.1% to 59,355 units. Ford was down 1.5% to 28,588 units. VinaMazda was down 19.0% to 26,017 units. Honda sales were up 5.5% to 12,134 units.
The zero-tariff policy for car imports from ASEAN nations went into effect on January 1, 2018.
Vietnamese automakers and importers have been racing to reduce the price of many models in recent months. However, customers are waiting for better prices.

Auto sales in Vietnam down 13.0% in November
According to the Vietnam Automobile Manufacturers Association (VAMA) report issued on December 12, automobile sales (including non-VAMA manufactures) in Vietnam were down 13.0% year on year to 24,752 units in November.
CKD volume was 17,697 units, and CBU volume was 7,055 units.
VAMA members (20 manufactures) sales in November were down 17.6% to 21,662 units. VAMA members passenger car sales were down 24.0%, commercial vehicles were down 4.2%, and special purpose vehicles were down 33.5%.
By brand sales in November based on MarkLines Data Center figures, Toyota (excluding Lexus) was down 12.3% to 5,374 units. Truong Hai was down 32.6% to 4,914 units. Ford was down 6.7% to 2,413 units. VinaMazda was down 10.1% to 2,385 units. Isuzu was up 7.8% to 1,035 units.
In line with ASEAN Trade in Goods Agreement, Vietnam lowered the tariff on the CBU imports from ASEAN countries from 40% to 30% in January 2017. The zero-tariff policy for car imports from ASEAN nations will go into effect on January 1, 2018.

YTD sales in Vietnam were down 9.7% to 244,873 units. YTD CKD sales were down 14.8% to 174,918 units, while CBU sales were up 6.4% to 69,955 units.

Auto sales in Vietnam down 22.7% in October   
According to the Vietnam Automobile Manufacturers Association (VAMA) report issued on November 10, automobile sales (including non-VAMA manufactures) in Vietnam were down 22.7% year on year to 21,868 units in October.
CKD volume was 15,498 units, and CBU volume was 6,370 units.
VAMA members (20 manufactures) sales in October were down 17.5% to 20,156 units. VAMA members passenger car sales were down 23.3%, commercial vehicles were down 3.8%, and special purpose vehicles were down 40.5%.
By brand sales in October based on MarkLines Data Center figures, Truong Hai was down 35.3% to 4,554 units. Toyota (excluding Lexus) was down 20.5% to 4,397 units. VinaMazda was down 6.8% to 2,612 units. Ford was down 6.1% to 2,282 units. Honda was down 18.9% to 1,011 units.
In line with ASEAN Trade in Goods Agreement, Vietnam lowered the tariff on the CBU imports from ASEAN countries from 40% to 30% in January 2017. The zero-tariff policy for car imports from ASEAN nations will go into effect on January 1, 2018.

Auto sales in Vietnam down 20.1% in September
According to the Vietnam Automobile Manufacturers Association (VAMA) report issued on October 10, automobile sales (including non-VAMA manufactures) in Vietnam were down 20.1% year on year to 21,216 units in September.
CKD volume was 14,739 units, and CBU volume was 6,477 units.
VAMA members (20 manufactures) sales in September were down 20.2% to 19,257 units. VAMA members passenger car sales were down 23.3%, commercial vehicles were down 12.1%, and special purpose vehicles were down 43.7%.
By brand sales in September based on MarkLines Data Center figures, Truong Hai was down 41.8% to 4,196 units. Toyota (excluding Lexus) was down 19.6% to 4,109 units. Ford was down 14.4% to 2,271 units. Honda was up 100.3% to 2,073 units. VinaMazda was down 50.0% to 1,426 units.
In line with ASEAN Trade in Goods Agreement, Vietnam lowered the tariff on the CBU imports from ASEAN countries from 40% to 30% in January 2017. The zero-tariff policy for car imports from ASEAN nations will go into effect on January 1, 2018.

Auto sales in Vietnam down 6.1% in August  
According to the Vietnam Automobile Manufacturers Association (VAMA) report issued on September 11, automobile sales (including non-VAMA manufactures) in Vietnam were down 6.1% year on year to 22,099 units in August.
CKD volume was 15,494 units, and CBU volume was 6,605 units.
VAMA members (20 manufactures) sales in August were up 0.9% to 20,746 units. VAMA members passenger car sales were down 3.7%, commercial vehicles were up 12.8%, and special purpose vehicles were down 33.2%.
By brand sales in August based on MarkLines Data Center figures, Toyota (excluding Lexus) was up 48.3% to 5,794 units. Truong Hai was down 31.4% to 4,301 units. Ford was up 8.0% to 2,292 units. VinaMazda was down 34.5% to 1,905 units. Honda was up 9.8% to 1,113 units.

Auto sales in Vietnam down 26.2% in July  
According to the Vietnam Automobile Manufacturers Association (VAMA) report issued on August 8, automobile sales (including non-VAMA manufactures) in Vietnam were down 26.2% year on year to 20,662 units in July.
CKD volume was 14,779 units, and CBU volume was 5,883 units.
VAMA members (20 manufactures) sales in July were down 21.3% to 19,345 units. VAMA members passenger car sales were down 25.2%, commercial vehicles were down 14.6%, and special purpose vehicles were down 25.2%.
By brand sales in July based on MarkLines Data Center figures, Truong Hai was down 30.7% to 4,942 units. Toyota (excluding Lexus) was down 17.0% to 4,291 units. Ford was down 9.8% to 2,440 units. VinaMazda was down 37.4% to 1,881 units. Honda was up 2.1% to 1,134 units.
In line with ASEAN Trade in Goods Agreement, Vietnam lowered the tariff on the CBU imports from ASEAN countries from 40% to 30% in January 2017. The zero-tariff policy for car imports from ASEAN nations will go into effect on January 1, 2018.
Vietnamese automakers and importers have been racing to reduce the price of many models in recent months. However, customers are waiting for prices to drop even further.
YTD sales in Vietnam were down 5.5% to 154,930 units. YTD CKD sales were down 10.4%, while CBU sales were up 9.0%.

Auto sales in Vietnam down 0.2% in June
According to the Vietnam Automobile Manufacturers Association (VAMA) report issued on July 7, automobile sales (including non-VAMA manufactures) in Vietnam were down 0.2% year on year to 24,365 units in June.
CKD volume was 17,280 units, and CBU volume was 7,085 units.
VAMA members (20 manufactures) sales in June were up 4.1% to 22,750 units. VAMA members passenger car sales were up 25.3%, commercial vehicles were down 15.4%, and special purpose vehicles were down 33.8%.
By brand sales in June based on MarkLines Data Center figures, Toyota (excluding Lexus) was up 71.3% to 6,815 units. Truong Hai was down 24.0% to 5,229 units. Ford was up 2.5% to 2,428 units. VinaMazda was down 11.4% to 2,020 units. Honda was up 14.2% to 992 units.
In line with ASEAN Trade in Goods Agreement, Vietnam lowered the tariff on the CBU imports from ASEAN countries from 40% to 30% in January 2017.
YTD sales in Vietnam were down 1.2% to 134,268 units. YTD CKD sales were down 6.4%, while CBU sales were up 15.3%.

According to the Vietnam Automobile Manufacturers Association (VAMA) report issued on June 7, automobile sales (including non-VAMA manufactures) in Vietnam were down 10.7% year on year to 23,232 units in May.
CKD volume was 16,656 units, and CBU volume was 6,576 units.
VAMA members (20 manufactures) sales in May were down 3.2% to 21,829 units. VAMA members passenger car sales were up 5.4%, commercial vehicles were down 10.8%, and special purpose vehicles were down 24.9%.
By brand sales in May based on MarkLines Data Center figures, Truong Hai was down 17.1% to 6,123 units. Toyota (excluding Lexus) was up 20.4% to 5,151 units. Ford was up 5.8% to 2,451 units. VinaMazda was down 16.1% to 2,115 units. GM Vietnam was up 38.6% to 1,038 units.
In line with ASEAN Trade in Goods Agreement, Vietnam lowered the tariff on the CBU imports from ASEAN countries from 40% to 30% in January 2017.
YTD sales in Vietnam were down 1.4% to 109,903 units. YTD CKD sales were down 6.9%, while CBU sales were up 16.5%.

According to the Vietnam Automobile Manufacturers Association (VAMA) report issued on May 8, automobile sales (including non-VAMA manufactures) in Vietnam were down 14.7% year on year to 21,942 units in April.
CKD volume was 16,453 units, and CBU volume was 5,489 units.
VAMA members (20 manufactures) sales in April were down 7.1% to 21,343 units. VAMA members passenger car sales were down 11.5%, commercial vehicles were up 4.2%, and special purpose vehicles were down 29.3%.
By brand sales in April based on MarkLines Data Center figures, Truong Hai was down 14.9% to 6,693 units. Toyota (excluding Lexus) was down 9.7% to 4,096 units. Ford was up 4.7% to 2,544 units. VinaMazda was down 23.8% to 1,909 units. GM Vietnam was up 9.7% to 951 units.
In line with ASEAN Trade in Goods Agreement, Vietnam lowered the tariff on the CBU imports from ASEAN countries from 40% to 30% in January 2017.

According to the Vietnam Automobile Manufacturers Association (VAMA) report issued on April 7, automobile sales (including non-VAMA manufactures) in Vietnam were up 8.3% year on year to 26,872 units in March.
CKD volume was 18,388 units, and CBU volume was 8,484 units.
VAMA members (20 manufactures) sales in March were down 1.7% to 22,792 units. VAMA members passenger car sales were up 8.7%, commercial vehicles were down 12.8%, and special purpose vehicles were down 15.9%.
By brand sales in March based on MarkLines Data Center figures, Truong Hai was down 5.3% to 7,245 units. Toyota (excluding Lexus) was down 0.3% to 4,679 units. Ford was up 4.6% to 2,501 units. VinaMazda was down 17.4% to 2,202 units. Honda was up 34.5% to 1,056 units.
In line with ASEAN Trade in Goods Agreement, Vietnam lowered the tariff on the CBU imports from ASEAN countries from 40% to 30%.
In March CKD sales were down 1%, while CBU sales were up 41%.

Auto sales in Vietnam up 50.4% in February
According to the Vietnam Automobile Manufacturers Association (VAMA) report issued on March 8, automobile sales (including non-VAMA manufactures) in Vietnam were up 50.4% year on year to 17,621 units in February.
CKD volume was 14,560 units, and CBU volume was 3,061 units.
VAMA members (20 manufactures) sales in February were up 53.6% to 17,156 units. VAMA members passenger car sales were up 53.1%, commercial vehicles were up 48.9%, and special purpose vehicles were up 89.1%.
By brand sales in February based on MarkLines Data Center figures, Truong Hai was up 102.5% to 5,882 units. Toyota (excluding Lexus) was up 51.2% to 3,579 units. Ford was up 23.4% to 1,881 units. VinaMazda was up 44.7% to 1,816 units. GM Vietnam was up 79.7% to 825 units.
In line with ASEAN Trade in Goods Agreement, Vietnam lowered the tariff on the CBU imports from ASEAN countries from 40% to 30%.
A growing middle-class population, rising disposable incomes and falling tariffs on cars imported from neighboring countries in Southeast Asia appear to be driving Vietnam’s car market. VAMA expects the Vietnamese vehicle market in 2017 will grow by 10%.

Auto sales in Vietnam down 12.7% in January
According to the Vietnam Automobile Manufacturers Association (VAMA) report issued on February 13, automobile sales (including non-VAMA manufactures) in Vietnam were down 12.7% year on year to 20,232 units in January.
CKD volume was 15,504 units, and CBU volume was 4,728 units.
VAMA members (20 manufactures) sales in January were down 10.5% to 19,613 units. VAMA members passenger car sales were up 6.0%, commercial vehicles were down 37.1%, and special purpose vehicles were down 48.0%.
By brand sales in January based on MarkLines Data Center figures, Toyota (excluding Lexus) was up 6.3% to 5,318 units. Truong Hai was down 39.2% to 3,617 units. VinaMazda was down 1.2% to 2,874 units. Ford was down 1.6% to 2,544 units. Honda sales were up 54.6% to 1,232 units.
In line with ASEAN Trade in Goods Agreement, Vietnam lowered the tariff on the CBU imports from ASEAN countries from 40% to 30%. Some automakers started to lower their import vehicle prices, however the impact of tariff change is not yet visible.
