Russian car sales decrease 1.0% in December, down 11.0% for 2016
The 145,668 new cars and light commercial vehicles sold in Russia in December represented a decrease of 1,526 units, or 1.0% compared to the same month in 2015 according to the Association of European Business (AEB) Automobile Manufacturers Committee.
In all of 2016, 1,425,791 cars were sold in Russia, an 11% drop from 2015 sales.
Among the four largest OEM retailers in Russia in December 2016, Lada sales were up 18% to 27,630 units, Hyundai sales were up 12% to 14,047 units, Kia sales were down 13% to 13,193, and Renault sales were up 15% to 13,765 units sold.
The top 10 models sold in December were the Lada Granta, Hyundai Solaris, Kia Rio, Lada Vesta, VW Polo, Hyundai Creta, Renault Duster, Renault Kaptur, Chevrolet Niva, and Renault Sandero.
Joerg Schreiber, Chairman of the AEB Automobile Manufacturers Committee said, “In 2017, the AEB believes the market has the potential to end a 4-year period of decline and to return to moderate growth. Total market sales are expected at a level of 1.48 million units, or 4% above 2016 result”.

Russian car sales increase 0.6% in November
The 132,346 new cars and light commercial vehicles sold in Russia in November represented an increase of 727 units, or 0.6% compared to the same month in 2015 according to the Association of European Business (AEB) Automobile Manufacturers Committee.
In the first eleven months of 2016, 1,279,987 cars were sold in Russia.
Among the four largest OEM retailers in Russia, Lada sales were up 18% to 25,507 units, Hyundai sales were up 4% to 15,779 units, Kia sales were up 4% to 14,651, and Renault sales were up 13% to 11,631 units sold.
The top 10 models sold in November were the Lada Granta, Kia Rio, Hyundai Solaris, Lada Vesta, Hyundai Creta, VW Polo, Renault Duster, Lada Largus, Renault Logan, and Renault Sandero.
Joerg Schreiber, Chairman of the AEB Automobile Manufacturers Committee commented, “November sales produced the first month with a positive year-on-year result in almost 2 years, last time seen in December 2014.”

Russian vehicle sales down 2.6% in October
According to the AEB Automobile Manufacturers Committee (AEB AMC), sales of new passenger cars and LCVs in Russia decreased by 2,6% year over year to 126,658 units in October 2016. From January 2015 sales have been negative for 22 consecutive months on y/y basis. However, the negative margin was only 2.6% this month.
Among by automaker group sales, AvtoVAZ/Renault/Nissan Group sales were up 4.7% y/y to 40,908 units. AvtoVAZ was up 13.2% to 23,307 units. Renault was up 1.8% to 11,012 units. Nissan was down 17.4% to 5,029 units. Datsun was down 0.4% to 1,196 units and Infiniti was down 2.2% to 364 units. Kia sales were up 4.1% to 15,015 units, and Hyundai sales (including Genesis) were up 0.4% to 14,201 units. VW Group sales were down 2.9%. Of the VW Group sales, VW cars were up 1.0%, VW vans were up 38.9%, Audi was down 30.8% and Skoda was up 0.1%. Toyota Group sales were up 26.3% to 9,961 units.
Among by brand sales in terms of market share in October, Lada (AvtoVAZ) was 18.4%, Kia was 11.9%, Hyundai was 11.2%, Renault was 8.7%, Toyota was 6.1%, and VW (cars) was 5.5%.
Regarding the sales rankings by model for the month, Kia Rio took the top spot with sales of 8,947 units. Solaris was second with 7,477 units, followed by Lada Granta with 6,815 units.

Total sales for the period January - October were down 13.3% to 1,147,670 units.
Joerg Schreiber, Chairman of the AEB AMC commented: “Car market sales in October take only a moderate dip versus prior year. This is not a bad result, confirming our earlier voiced expectation that the new car registration trend should improve towards year end. Seasonality is a factor, of course, but the main drivers here are the government programs offering purchase incentives to end customers. These programs are running out. What awaits us in 2017 remains to be seen. But it is clear already that, without meaningful support from the government, any trend stabilization would be very short-lived”.

Russian car sales decrease 10.9% in September
The 125,568 new cars and light commercial vehicles sold in Russia in September represented a 10.9% decrease compared to the same month in 2015, according to the Association of European Business (AEB) Automobile Manufacturers Committee.
In the first nine months of 2016, 1,020,932 cars were sold.
The top 10 models sold in September were the Kia Rio, Lada Granta, Hyundai Solaris, Hyundai Creta, VW Polo, Lada Vesta, Renault Duster, Lada 4x4, Toyota Camry, and Toyota RAV4.
Joerg Schreiber, Chairman of the AEB Automobile Manufacturers Committee commented, "With nine months of the year completed, the market has finally crossed the 1 million threshold. Pace of sales in the remaining months of the year will depend on whether customers believe that state-sponsored purchase incentives like trade-in will run out soon or not."
