Auto sales in Vietnam up 21.9% in March
According to the Vietnam Automobile Manufacturers Association (VAMA) report issued on April 10, automobile sales (including imported vehicles of non-VAMA manufactures' sales) in Vietnam were up 21.9% year-over-year to 38,704 units in March. CKD volume was 15,693 units and CBU volume was 23,011 units.
VAMA members (20 manufacturers) sales in March were up 20.2% y/y to 31,351 units. VAMA members passenger car sales were up 9.9%, commercial vehicles were up 19.0% and special purpose vehicles were down 98.9%, and hybrid vehicles were up 248.4% to 3,143 units.
By brand sales in March based on MarkLines Data Center figures, Toyota (excluding Lexus) was up 51.6% y/y to 8,143 units with 21% market share. Mitsubishi was up 15.3% to 5,086 units with 13.1% market share. Ford was up 6.2% to 4,538 units with 11.7% market share. Thaco Kia was up 22.7% to 2,849 units with 7.4% market share. Thaco Mazda was up 19.7% to 2,796 units with 7.2% market share. Thaco Truck was up 21.2% to 2,761 units with 7.1% market share. Honda was down 24.9% to 1,839 units with 4.8% market share. 
Cumulative sales for the three months of the year were up 31.3% y/y to 94,857 units.
The strong rebound in March indicates that Vietnam’s auto market is regaining momentum after the seasonal slowdown during the Lunar New Year.

Auto sales in Vietnam down 10.8% in February
According to the Vietnam Automobile Manufacturers Association (VAMA) report issued on March 10, automobile sales (including imported vehicles of non-VAMA manufactures' sales) in Vietnam were down 10.8% year-over-year to 19,278 units in February. CKD volume was 9,220 units and CBU volume was 10,058 units.
VAMA members (20 manufacturers) sales in February were down 8.8% y/y to 15,665 units. VAMA members passenger car sales were down 11.1%, commercial vehicles were down 9.5% and special purpose vehicles were down 99.3%, and hybrid vehicles were up 48.0% to 1,119 units. Battery electric vehicles were 1 unit.
By brand sales in February based on MarkLines Data Center figures, Toyota (excluding Lexus) was up 24.9% y/y to 3,890 units with a 20.2% market share. Ford was down 10.3% to 2,473 units with 12.8% market share. Thaco Mazda was down 9.4% to 1,790 units with a 9.3% market share. Mitsubishi was down 0.4% to 1,784 units with a 9.3% market share. Thaco Kia was down 14.4% to 1,740 units with a 9.0% market share. Thaco Truck was down 29.1% to 1,284 units with a 6.7% market share. Honda was down 41.8% to 1,052 units with a 5.5% market share. 
Cumulative sales for the two months of the year were up 38.7% y/y to 56,153 units.
According to VAMA, although February sales declined due to the Lunar New Year holiday, the outlook for Vietnam’s automobile market this year remains positive. Economic recovery, rising mobility demand, and the introduction of numerous new models are expected to continue supporting growth in the automotive sector in the coming months.

Auto sales in Vietnam up 95.2% in January
According to the Vietnam Automobile Manufacturers Association (VAMA) report issued on February 11, automobile sales (including imported vehicles of non-VAMA manufactures' sales) in Vietnam were up 95.2% year-over-year to 36,875 units in January. CKD volume was 18,034 units and CBU volume was 18,841 units.
VAMA members (20 manufacturers) sales in January were up 89.9% y/y to 29,774 units. VAMA members passenger car sales were up 102.9%, commercial vehicles were up 79.1% and hybrid vehicles were down 4.5% to 863 units. 
By brand sales in January based on MarkLines Data Center figures, Ford was up 108.8% y/y to 5,121 units with a 13.9% market share. Mitsubishi was up 193.6% to 5,039 units with a 13.7% market share. Toyota (excluding Lexus) was up 45.0% to 4,852 units with a 13.2% market share. Thaco Mazda was up 73.1% to 3,515 units with a 9.5% market share. Thaco Kia was up 88.9% to 3,487 units with a 9.5% market share. Honda was up 48.5% to 2,712 units with a 7.4% market share. Thaco Truck was up 104.9% to 1,680 units with a 4.6% market share.
According to industry experts, January 2025 saw sales volumes decline as consumers curbed spending during the second half of the month, which coincided with preparations for the Lunar New Year. The increase in sales volume in January 2026 indicates an improvement in market conditions, driven by stable consumer sentiment and a recovery in travel and logistics activity.
