On January 2, the automobile manufacturers association of Spain (ANFAC) announced that passenger car registrations in December 2023 were up 10.6% to 81,772 units over December 2022.
Full-year sales of 949,359 units in 2023 represent a 16.7% increase over 2022.
In 2023, Toyota sales increased 8.7% to 79,883 units, Kia sales increased 4.6% to 66,245 units, Volkswagen brand increased 8.5% to 63,871 units, Hyundai decreased 1.1% to 58,874 units and SEAT increased 19.1% to 58,586 units.
The best-selling cars in 2023, in order of popularity, were the Dacia Sandero, SEAT Arona, Toyota Corolla, MG ZS and Peugeot 2008.
Of all vehicles sold in 2023, gasoline vehicles had a 40.8% market share, diesel vehicles had a 12.5% share and other vehicles had a 46.7% share.
Private car sales in 2023 increased 14.5% to 419,528 units, business sales increased 13.1% to 393,815 units and rental car sales increased 37.5% to 136,016 units.
ANFAC explained that "We closed 2023 with growth from last year with a market of more than 949,000 new enrollment. It is a positive aspect to highlight, but it does not have to lead us to conformity. In 2024 Spain must overcome the barrier of the million cars sold. To that end, further efforts must be made to encourage citizens to move forward on decarbonization commitments, through the renovation of the park and the gradual entry of zero- and low-emission vehicles. The citizen has to know that now is the time to buy a new car. And more if it's electric or plug-in hybrid. The MOVES plan still has funds, in addition to the deduction of up to 15% in the IRPF for the purchase of these vehicles. In 2024, not only should progress be made in the recovery of the market, but also in the definitive drive towards the electrified vehicle with new measures that would actually generate a change of trend."

Spanish passenger car sales increase 7.0% in November
On December 1, the automobile manufacturers association of Spain (ANFAC) announced that passenger car registrations of 78,314 units in November 2023 represented an increase of 7.0% over November 2022.
Passenger car sales of 867,587 units in the first eleven months of the year represented a 17.3% increase from the same period in 2022.
Toyota sales decreased 13.5% to 6,786 units, Kia sales increased 0.7% to 5,773 units, Hyundai sales increased 9.6% to 5,384 units, Volkswagen sales increased 35.1% to 5,369 units and Dacia sales increased 67.1% to 4,786 units compared to November 2022.
The best-selling cars in November 2023, in order of popularity, were the Dacia Sandero, Toyota Corolla, MG ZS, Hyundai Tucson and SEAT Ibiza.
Of all vehicles sold in November, gasoline vehicles had a 36.3% market share, diesel vehicles had a 10.6% share, and other vehicles had a 53.1% share.
Private car sales in November increased 14.0% to 40,785 units, business sales increased 3.3% to 32,674 units and rental car sales decreased 16.4% to 4,855 units.
ANFAC explained that "The market is growing again in November and accumulates 11 months upwards. The fact that the European Central Bank (ECB) has stepped on the brakes by stopping interest rate escalation, and giving a respite to mortgages, has encouraged buyers, in a context that initiatives like Black Friday have opened the door to special offers and discounts from vehicle distributors. Indeed, private-sector purchases have pulled out of the market, concentrating half the volume of sales. At this rate, and if we consider that December is usually a good month commercially, we can put ourselves in the 945,000 units by the end of 2023."

Spanish passenger car sales increase 18.1% in October
On November 1, the automobile manufacturers association of Spain (ANFAC) announced that passenger car registrations of 77,892 units in October 2023 represented an increase 18.1% over the same month in 2022.
Sales grows greater YoY than expected despite the current economic times, driven by decrease in the escalation of inflation and the brake on the rise in interest ratesm, as well as an improvement in the pace of vehicle production.
Passenger car sales of 789,272 units in the first ten months of the year represented an 18.5% increase YoY.
Toyota sales increased 18.4% to 7,007 units, Kia sales increased 1.9% to 5,608 units, Hyundai sales increased 4.6% to 5,272 units, Dacia sales increased 83.0% to 4,855 units, VW sales increased 8.6% to 4,416 units compared to October 2022.
The best-selling cars in October 2023, in order of popularity, were Dacia Sandero, MG ZS, Toyota Yaris Cross, Hyundai Tucson, and Fiat 500.
Private car sales in October increased 22.2% to 38,110 units, business sales increased 14.7% to 33,942 units, rent-a-car sales increased 12.7% to 5,840 units.
Of all vehicles sold in October, gasoline vehicles had a 36.2% market share, diesel vehicles had a 11.8% share, and other vehicles had a 52.0% share.

Spanish passenger car sales increase 2.3% in September
On October 4, the automobile manufacturers association of Spain (ANFAC) announced that passenger car registrations of 68,803 units in September 2023 represented an increase of 2.3% over September 2022.
Passenger car sales of 711,380 units in the first nine months of the year represented a 18.5% increase from the same period in 2022.
Toyota sales increased 1.6% to 5,746 units, Kia sales decreased 19.5% to 4,614 units, Peugeot sales increased 3.7% to 4,410 units, Volkswagen sales decreased 9.8% to 4,090 units and Citroen sales increased 0.9% to 4,086 units compared to September 2022.
The best-selling cars in September 2023, in order of popularity, were the MG ZS, Peugeot 2008, Nissan Qashqai, Citroen C3 and Kia Sportage.
Of all vehicles sold in September, gasoline vehicles had a 38.2% market share, diesel vehicles had a 12.5% share, and other vehicles had a 49.3% share.
Private car sales in September increased 9.4% to 33,155 units, business sales increased 4.9% to 32,096 units and rental car sales decreased 43.9% to 3,552 units.
ANFAC explained that "September closes with a slight increase in passenger car sales despite having a working day less than in the same month of 2022. Every month of the year they have closed positive. But, no less true, political uncertainty, a high-interest-rate scenario, has made a dent in volume. A market with about 70,000 units for a month like September is not a big number. With these data and persisting upward inflation, we are not optimistic to achieve the 950,000 units planned as the end of the year."

Spanish passenger car sales increase 7.8% in August
On September 1, the automobile manufacturers association of Spain (ANFAC) announced that passenger car registrations of 55,957 units in August 2023 represented an increase of 7.8% over August 2022.
Passenger car sales of 642,850 units in the first eight months of the year represented a 20.5% increase from the same period in 2022.
Toyota sales increased 8.4% to 5,352 units, Kia sales decreased 12.9% to 3,960 units, Hyundai sales decreased 16.6% to 3,690 units, Volkswagen sales decreased 9.5% to 3,536 units and Peugeot sales decreased 5.8% to 2,859 units compared to August 2022.
The best-selling cars in August 2023, in order of popularity, were the MG ZS, Dacia Sandero, Toyota Corolla, Kia Sportage and Toyota C-HR.
Of all vehicles sold in August, gasoline vehicles had a 39.1% market share, diesel vehicles had a 11.9% share, and other vehicles had a 49.0% share.
Private car sales in August increased 19.5% to 29,823 units, business sales increased 5.7% to 22,945 units and rental car sales decreased 39.2% to 3,189 units.
ANFAC explained that “August closes positively, although its volume is not high as it is a holiday month par excellence. In all months of 2023, last year's figures have been exceeded. Being a good figure, we should not fall into conformism, given that we come from a 2022 in which only 814,000 passenger cars were sold. And let's not forget that the market is still more than 25% lower than in 2019. The market is growing so far this year at a double-digit rate, but in recent months the growth has been lower. This leads us to think that inflation, high interest rates and the uncertainty of not having a Government could slow down purchases in the last quarter of the year and put in danger reaching the forecast of 950,000 that we have for the entire year."

Spanish passenger car sales increase 10.7% in July
On August 1, the automobile manufacturers association of Spain (ANFAC) announced that passenger car registrations of 81,205 units in July 2023 represented an increase of 10.7% over July 2022.
Passenger car sales of 586,626 units in the first seven months of the year represented a 21.9% increase from the same period in 2022.
Toyota sales increased 13.8% to 7,334 units, Kia sales increased 14.1% to 6,452 units, Volkswagen sales increased 11.5% to 6,150 units, SEAT sales increased 32.6% to 5,333 units and Hyndai sales decreased 17.6% to 4,876 units compared to July 2022.
The best-selling cars in July 2023, in order of popularity, were the Dacia Sandero, Kia Sportage, Peugeot 2008, Toyota Corolla and SEAT Arona.
Of all vehicles sold in July, gasoline vehicles had a 42.4% market share, diesel vehicles had a 11.9% share, and other vehicles had a 45.7% share.
Private car sales in July increased 12.1% to 35,111 units, business sales increased 13.2% to 35,132 units and rental car sales decreased 0.5% to 10,962 units.

Spanish passenger car sales increase 13.3% in June
On July 3, the automobile manufacturers association of Spain (ANFAC) announced that passenger car registrations of 101,085 units in June 2023 represented an increase of 13.3% over June 2022.
Passenger car sales of 505,421 units in the first half of the year represented a 24.0% increase from the same period in 2022.
Toyota sales decreased 13.1% to 7,212 units, Volkswagen sales increased 5.1% to 6,987 units, Kia sales increased 12.1% to 6,819 units, Hyndai sales decreased 6.3% to 6,726 units and Renault sales increased 8.9% to 6,567 units compared to June 2022.
The best-selling cars in June 2023, in order of popularity, were the Dacia Sandero, Fiat 500, SEAT Arona, MG ZSc and Toyota Yaris Cross.
Of all vehicles sold in June, gasoline vehicles had a 43.3% market share, diesel vehicles had a 12.3% share, and other vehicles had a 44.5% share.
Private car sales in June increased 8.5% to 38,574 units, business sales increased 1.9% to 37,812 units and rental car sales increased 48.8% to 24,699 units.

On June 1, the automobile manufacturers association of Spain (ANFAC) announced that passenger car registrations of 92,025 units in May 2023 represented an increase 8.3% over the same month in 2022.
Passenger car sales of 404,337 units in the first five months of the year represented an 26.9% increase from the same period in 2022.
Toyota sales decreased 2.6% to 7,842 units, Peugeot sales decreased 6.2% to 6,689 units, Renault sales increased 56.8% to 6,638 units, VW sales increased 2.0% to 6,540 units, KIA sales increased 0.1% to 6,227 units YoY.
The best-selling cars in May 2023, in order of popularity, were Dacia Sandero, Renault Clio, Peugeot 208, SEAT Arona and Toyota Corolla.
Of all vehicles sold in May, gasoline vehicles had a 44.0% market share, diesel vehicles had a 12.6% share, and other vehicles had a 43.4% share.
Private car sales in May increased 5.3% to 36,495 units, business sales increased 5.4% to 33,822 units, rent-a-car sales increased 19.0% to 21,708 units.

Spanish passenger car sales increase 8.2% in April
On May 2, the automobile manufacturers association of Spain (ANFAC) announced that passenger car registrations of 74,749 units in April 2023 represented an increase of 8.2% over April 2022.
Passenger car sales of 312,324 units in the first four months of the year represented a 33.7% increase from the same period in 2022.
Volkswagen sales decreased 2.8% to 6,353 units, Toyota sales decreased 3.6% to 5,533 units, SEAT sales increased 4.4% to 5,515 units, Peugeot sales increased 26.7% to 5,345 units and Kia sales increased 1.9% to 5,051 units compared to April 2022.
The best-selling cars in April 2023, in order of popularity, were the SEAT Arona, Dacia Sandero, Renault Clio, Volkswagen T-Roc and SEAT Ateca.
Of all vehicles sold in April, gasoline vehicles had a 43.4% market share, diesel vehicles had a 14.9% share, and other vehicles had a 41.7% share.
Private car sales in April decreased 1.9% to 28,381 units, business sales increased 8.9% to 30,615 units and rental car sales increased 30.6% to 15,753 units.

Spanish passenger car sales increase 66.1% in March
On April 3, the automobile manufacturers association of Spain (ANFAC) announced that passenger car registrations of 99,524 units in March 2023 represented an increase of 66.1% over March 2022.
Passenger car sales of 237,563 units in the first three months of the year represented a 44.5% increase from the same period in 2022.
Toyota sales increased 97.2% to 8,083 units, Peugeot sales increased 82.0% to 8,016 units, SEAT sales increased 89.5% to 7,594 units, Kia sales increased 30.7% to 6,854 units and Hyndai sales increased 37.8% to 6,268 units compared to March 2022.
The best-selling cars in March 2023, in order of popularity, were the SEAT Arona, Toyota C-HR, Opel Corsa, Peugeot 2008 and Hyundai Tucson.
Of all vehicles sold in March, gasoline vehicles had a 45.2% market share, diesel vehicles had a 13.9% share, and other vehicles had a 40.9% share.
Private car sales in March increased 36.0% to 36,061 units, business sales increased 44.8% to 38,656 units and rental car sales increased 269.4% to 24,807 units.

Spanish passenger car sales increase 19.2% in February
On March 1, the automobile manufacturers association of Spain (ANFAC) announced that passenger car registrations of 74,001 units in February 2023 represented an increase of 19.2% over February 2022.
Passenger car sales of 138,039 units in the first two months of the year represented a 32.1% increase from the same period in 2022.
Although Spain is experiencing recessionary conditions, with higher prices and interest rates squeezing real household income, accumulated order books contributed sales gain as supply issues ease.
Toyota sales increased 7.4% to 6,035 units, SEAT sales increased 5.2% to 6,025 units, Peugeot sales increased 14.3% to 5,741 units, Kia sales increased 10.7% to 5,230 units and VW sales increased 10.3% to 4,858 units compared to February 2022.
The best-selling cars in February 2023, in order of popularity, were the Dacia Sandero, SEAT Arona, Peugeot 2008, SEAT Ateca and Toyota C-HR.
Of all vehicles sold in February, gasoline vehicles had a 42.6% market share, diesel vehicles had a 13.6% share, and other vehicles had a 43.9% share.
Private car sales in February increased 8.6% to 32,463 units, business sales increased 12.9% to 32,401 units and rental car sales increased 148.9% to 9,497 units.

Spanish passenger car sales increase 51.4% in January
On February 1, the automobile manufacturers association of Spain (ANFAC) announced that passenger car registrations of 64,147 units in January 2023 represented an increase of 51.4% over January 2022.
Toyota sales increased 23.3% to 6,631 units, Kia sales increased 31.0% to 4,699 units, SEAT sales increased 107.4% to 4,421 units, Dacia sales increased 156.4% to 4,238 units and VW sales increased 38.0% to 3,997 units compared to January 2022.
