Malaysian new car sales up 41.6%, production up 45.8% for 2022
Malaysian Automotive Association (MAA) announced that new car sales of 76,657 units in December increase 17.5% over the same month in 2021. PVs (passenger vehicles) sales were up 19.6% to 68,889 units. CVs (commercial vehicles) sales were up 1.6% to 7,768 units.
Total sales in 2022 posted a record high of 720,658 units, a 41.6% increase from that of 2021. PVs sales were up 41.8% to 641,773 units. CVs sales were up 39.9% to 78,885 units.
The number of Malaysian car production for December increased 27.2% over the previous year to 68,881 units. Full-year production of 702,275 vehicles in 2022 represented a increase of 45.8% from 2021.
MAA forecasts that total industry volume will decline by 9.8% to 650,000 units in 2023 after surpassing the 700,000 mark in 2022, mainly due to the expiration of the sales tax exemption on March 31, 2023.

Malaysian new car sales increases 7.3%, production increases 13.1% in November
On December 16, Malaysian Automotive Association (MAA) announced that new car sales of 64,404 units in November increases 7.3% over the same month in 2021.
PVs (passenger vehicles) sales were up 6.9% to 57,545 units. CVs (commercial vehicles) sales were up 10.8% to 6,859 units.
New car sales for the first eleven months of 2022 increased 44.8% from the same period in 2021 to 642,306 units.
The number of Malaysian car production for November increases 13.1% over the previous year to 65,669 units.
New car production for the first eleven months of 2022 increased 48.2% from the same period in 2021 to 633,421 units.
Sales in December 2022 is expected to be higher than November-2022 due to car companies rushing to fulfill many outstanding bookings as well as year-end promotions by certain makes.

Malaysian new car sales decreases 5.8%, production decreases 9.8% in October
On November 16, Malaysian Automotive Association (MAA) announced that new car sales of 61,002 units in October decreases 5.8% over the same month in 2021.
PVs (passenger vehicles) sales were down 6.3% to 54,498 units. CVs (commercial vehicles) sales were down 1.7% to 6,504 units.
New car sales for the first ten months of 2022 increased 50.7% from the same period in 2021 to 577,902 units.
The number of Malaysian car production for October decreased 9.8% over the previous year to 58,991 units.
New car production for the first ten months of 2022 increased 53.7% from the same period in 2021 to 567,752 units.
Sales in November 2022 is expected to be maintained at October-2022 level due to shortage of chips and components continued to affect certain makes, albeit at a much smaller scale.

Malaysian new car sales increases 53.0%, production increases 50.9% in September
On October 18, Malaysian Automotive Association (MAA) announced that new car sales of 67,659 units in September increases 53.0% over the same month in 2021, which were affected by a nationwide lockdown due to coronavirus pandemic.
PVs (passenger vehicles) sales were up 57.0% to 60,060 units. CVs (commercial vehicles) sales were up 27.3% to 7,599 units.
New car sales for the first nine months of 2022 increased 62.1% from the same period in 2021 to 516,798 units.
The number of Malaysian car production for September increased 50.9% over the previous year to 69,389 units.
New car production for the first nine months of 2022 increased 67.4% from the same period in 2021 to 508,761 units.
Sales in October 2022 is expected to be maintained at September-2022 level despite supply and chips problems still ongoing and affecting some makers.

Malaysian new car sales and production jump in August
On September 19, Malaysian Automotive Association (MAA) announced that new car sales of 66,614 units in August increases 271.7% over the same month in 2021, which were affected by a nationwide lockdown due to coronavirus pandemic.
PVs (passenger vehicles) sales were up 286.2% to 59,769 units. CVs (commercial vehicles) sales were up 179.6% to 6,845 units.
New car sales for the first eight months of 2022 increased 62.9% from the same period in 2021 to 447,209 units.
The number of Malaysian car production for August increased 396.9% over the previous year to 69,378 units.
New car production for the first eight months of 2022 increased 70.3% from the same period in 2021 to 439,372 units.
Sales in September 2022 are expected to be maintained at the same level as August 2022 due to shortage of chips and components will continue to affect some makes.

Malaysian new car sales and production jump in July
On August 18, Malaysian Automotive Association (MAA) announced that new car sales of 48,922 units in July increases 552.4% over the same month in 2021.
PVs (passenger vehicles) sales were up 715.9% to 43,594 units. CVs (commercial vehicles) sales were up 147.1% to 5,328 units. In July 2021, vehicle sales were significantly decreased due to the EMCO to contain the COVID-19 outbreak.
New car sales for the first seven months of 2022 increased 48.3% from the same period in 2021 to 380,595 units.
The number of Malaysian car production for July increased 1,776.1% over the previous year to 52,061 units.
New car production for the first seven months of 2022 increased 51.6% from the same period in 2021 to 369,994 units.
Sales in August 2022 are expected to be maintained at the same level as July 2022.

Malaysian new car sales and production jump in June
On July 20, Malaysian Automotive Association (MAA) announced that new car sales of 63,366 units in June increases 3,190.0% over the same month in 2021.
PVs (passenger vehicles) sales were up 2,999.6% to 57,063 units. CVs (commercial vehicles) sales were up 7,315.3% to 6,303 units. In June 2021, vehicle sales were significantly decreased due to the EMCO to contain the COVID-19 outbreak.
New car sales for the first six months of 2022 increased 33.0% from the same period in 2021 to 331,386 units.
The number of Malaysian car production for June increased 21,597.5% over the previous year to 59,885 units.
New car production for the first six months of 2022 increased 31.8% from the same period in 2021 to 317,933 units.
Impetus from sales tax exemption incentive (which ended on 30 June 2022) helped to spur sales. Sales in July 2022 are expected to be maintained at June-2022 level due to fulfilment of bookings made during the sales tax exemption period and shortage of chips and components will continue to affect some makes.
MAA revised TIV 2022 forecasts from 600,000 to 630,000 units of which 567,000 units for PVs and 63,000 units for CVs.

On June 20, Malaysian Automotive Association (MAA) announced that new car sales of 49,603 units in May increases 5.1% over the same month in 2021.
PVs (passenger vehicles) sales were up 2.8% to 43,710 units. CVs (commercial vehicles) sales were up 25.6% to 5,893 units.
New car sales for the first five months of 2022 increased 7.4% from the same period in 2021 to 265,656 units.
The number of Malaysian car production for May increased 15.6% over the previous year to 49,154 units.
New car production for the first five months of 2022 increased 7.1% from the same period in 2021 to 258,048 units.
Sales in June 2022 are expected to be better than in May 2022 due to impetus from sales tax exemption incentive for consumers to buy passenger vehicles (which is due to expire by the end of June 2022) and aggressive push for sales by car companies, though the shortage of chips and components and the supply chain disruptions will continue to affect some makes.

On May 20, Malaysian Automotive Association (MAA) announced that new car sales of 56,213 units in April decreased 3.6% over the same month in 2021.

New car sales for the first four months of 2022 increased 8.0% from the same period in 2021 to 215,965 units.

Sales in May 2022 is expected to be maintained at April 2022 level due to short working month due to festive holidays as well as shortage of chips and components and also shipment delay will continue to affect some companies.

On April 22, Malaysian Automotive Association (MAA) announced that new car sales of 73,222 units in March increased 12.8% over the same month in 2021.

On March 17, Malaysian Automotive Association (MAA) announced that new car sales of 43,722 units in February increased 0.6% over the same month in 2021.
PVs (passenger vehicles) sales were up 0.7% to 38,823 units. CVs (commercial vehicles) sales were up 0.1% to 4,899 units.
New car sales for the first two months of 2022 increased 9.7% from the same period in 2021 to 84,303 units.
The number of Malaysian car production for February increased 13.5% over the previous year to 51,291 units.
New car production for the first two months of 2022 increased 11.1% from the same period in 2021 to 94,252 units.
MAA assumed that sales volume in March 2022 is expected to be higher than February 2022 due to push for higher sales by companies having their financial year ending on 31 March 2021 and longer working month.

Malaysian new car sales increase 21.5%, production increases 8.3% in January
On February 17, Malaysian Automotive Association (MAA) announced that new car sales of 40,581 units in January increased 21.5% over the same month in 2021.
PVs (passenger vehicles) sales were up 14.5% to 33,668 units. CVs (commercial vehicles) sales were up 73.9% to 6,913 units.
The number of Malaysian car production for January increased 8.3% over the previous year to 42,961 units.
MAA forecasts that sales in February 2022 is expected to be maintained at January 2022 level due to short working month and supply chain disruptions because of recent floods and on-going chips shortages.
