Malaysian new car sales increase 25.5% in December, decrease 12.4% for 2020
On January 21, Malaysian Automotive Association (MAA) announced that new car sales of 68,836 units in December increased 25.5% over the same month in 2019.
PVs (passenger vehicles) sales were up 26.0% to 62,122 units. CVs (commercial vehicles) sales were up 21.5% to 6,714 units.
Total sales in 2020 totaled 529,434 units, a 12.4% decrease from that of 2019.
The number of Malaysian car production for December increased 27.9% over the previous year to 55,860 units.
Full-year production of 485,186 vehicles in 2020 represented a decrease of 15.1% from 2019.
MAA assumed that sales volume for January 2021 is expected to be lower than December 2020 because of market uncertainty due to implementation of Movement Control Order (MCO) in 5 States and 3 Federal Territories effective 13 January 2021 and impact of floods in certain states in Peninsula Malaysia.

Malaysian new car sales increase 7.4%, production increases 17.9% in November
On December 17, Malaysian Automotive Association (MAA) announced that new car sales of 56,489 units in November increased 7.4% over the same month in 2019.
PVs (passenger vehicles) sales were up 7.2% to 51,174 units. CVs (commercial vehicles) sales were up 10.0% to 5,315 units.
New car sales for the first eleven months of 2020 decreased 17.2% from the same period in 2019 to 454,708 units.
The number of Malaysian car production for November increased 17.9% over the previous year to 54,832 units.
New car production for the first eleven months of 2020 decreased 18.7% from the same period in 2019 to 429,326 units.
MAA assumed that sales volume for December 2020 is expected to be higher than November 2020 level due to sales volume in December 2020 is expected to be much higher than November 2020 level due to the continuation of the impetus from sales tax exemption incentive for passenger vehicles and the on-going aggressive promotional campaigns by car companies.

Malaysian new car sales increase 5.2%, production increases 5.1% in October
On November 18, Malaysian Automotive Association (MAA) announced that new car sales of 56,670 units in October increased 5.2% over the same month in 2019.
PVs (passenger vehicles) sales were up 5.7% to 51,795 units. CVs (commercial vehicles) sales were down 0.2% to 4,875 units.
New car sales for the first ten months of 2020 decreased 19.9% from the same period in 2019 to 398,159 units.
The number of Malaysian car production for October increased 5.1% over the previous year to 58,631 units.
New car production for the first ten months of 2020 decreased 22.2% from the same period in 2019 to 374,494 units.
MAA assumed that sales volume for November 2020 is expected to be lower than October 2020 level due to one full month impact from the implementation of CMCO for all states in Peninsular Malaysia (except Perlis, Pahang & Kelantan) and reduction in traffic volume to automotive showrooms.

Malaysian new car sales increase 26.4%, production increases 15.3% in September
On October 19, Malaysian Automotive Association (MAA) announced that new car sales of 56,444 units in September increased 26.4% over the same month in 2019.
PVs (passenger vehicles) sales were up 27.7% to 51,422 units. CVs (commercial vehicles) sales were up 14.2% to 5,022 units.
New car sales for the first nine months of 2020 decreased 22.9% from the same period in 2019 to 341,489 units.
The number of Malaysian car production for September increased 15.3% over the previous year to 51,987 units.
New car production for the first nine months of 2020 decreased 25.8% from the same period in 2019 to 315,863 units.
MAA assumed that sales volume for October 2020 is expected to be lower than September 2020 level due to impact from the implementation of CMCO for two-week and consumers' being cautious with the ending of loans moratorium.

Malaysian new car sales increase 3.2%, production increases 6.9% in August
On September 18, Malaysian Automotive Association (MAA) announced that new car sales of 52,800 units in August increased 3.2% over the same month in 2019.
PVs (passenger vehicles) sales were up 1.7% to 47,591 units. CVs (commercial vehicles) sales were up 19.9% to 5,209 units.
New car sales for the first eight months of 2020 decreased 28.4% from the same period in 2019 to 285,045 units.
The number of Malaysian car production for August increased 6.9% over the previous year to 50,228 units.
New car production for the first eight months of 2020 decreased 30.7% from the same period in 2019 to 263,876 units.
MAA assumed that sales volume for September 2020 is expected to be maintained at August 2020 level due to on-going promotional campaigns by car companies and consumers' sentiments remain cautious with the loans moratorium coming to an end by 30 September 2020.

Malaysian new car sales increase 13.2%, production decreases 2.6% in July
On August 19, Malaysian Automotive Association (MAA) announced that new car sales of 57,552 units in July increased 13.2% over the same month in 2019.
PVs (passenger vehicles) sales were up 12.8% to 52,119 units. CVs (commercial vehicles) sales were up 16.5% to 5,433 units.
New car sales for the first seven months of 2020 decreased 33.1% from the same period in 2019 to 232,245 units.
The number of Malaysian car production for July decreased 2.6% over the previous year to 47,631 units.
New car production for the first seven months of 2020 decreased 35.9% from the same period in 2019 to 213,680 units.
MAA assumed that sales volume for August 2020 is expected to be maintained at July 2020 level due to sales tax exemption incentive for CKD & CBU vehicles and on-going promotional campaigns by car companies.

Malaysian new car sales increase 5.0%, production increases 21.5% in June
On July 24, Malaysian Automotive Association (MAA) announced that new car sales of 44,695 units in June increased 5.0% over the same month in 2019.
PVs (passenger vehicles) sales were up 6.1% to 40,944 units. CVs (commercial vehicles) sales were down 6.5% to 3,751 units.
New car sales for the half of 2020 decreased 41.1% from the same period in 2019 to 174,675 units.
The number of Malaysian car production for June increased 21.5% over the previous year to 45,044 units.
New car production for the first half of 2020 decreased 41.7% from the same period in 2019 to 166,049 units.
MAA assumed that sales volume for June 2020 is expected to be slightly better than June 2020 level due to longer working month and traffic to automotive showrooms continued to improve.

On June 22, Malaysian Automotive Association (MAA) announced that new car sales of 22,960 units in May decreased 62.2% over the same month in 2019.
PVs (passenger vehicles) sales were down 63.4% to 20,456 units. CVs (commercial vehicles) sales were down 48.5% to 2,504 units.
New car sales for the first five months of 2020 decreased 48.9% from the same period in 2019 to 129,561 units.
The number of Malaysian car production for May decreased 76.1% over the previous year to 12,286 units.
New car production for the first five months of 2020 decreased 51.1% from the same period in 2019 to 121,005 units.
MAA assumed that sales volume for June 2020 is expected to be higher than May 2020 due to businesses resumed after the lifting of restrictions for most economic activities and traffic to car showrooms has improved after the announcement on sales tax exemption by the government .

On May 21, Malaysian Automotive Association (MAA) announced that new car sales of 141 units in April decreased 99.7% over the same month in 2019 due to coronavirus pandemic.
PVs (passenger vehicles) sales were down 99.7% to 131 units. CVs (commercial vehicles) sales were down 99.8% to 10 units.
New car sales for the first four months of 2020 decreased 44.8% from the same period in 2019 to 106,601 units.
The number of Malaysian car production for April decreased 99.5% over the previous year to 275 units.
New car production for the first four months of 2020 decreased 44.6% from the same period in 2019 to 108,719 units.
MAA assumed that sales volume in May 2020 would be much higher than April 2020 but very much lower than traditional monthly registrations prior to MCO.

Malaysian new car sales decrease 59.0% in March
On April 29, Malaysian Automotive Association (MAA) announced that new car sales of 22,478 units in March decreased 59.0% over the same month in 2019 due to coronavirus pandemic.
PVs (passenger vehicles) sales were down 59.6% to 20,260 units. CVs (commercial vehicles) sales were down 52.6% to 2,218 units.
New car sales for the first three months of 2020 decreased 25.6% from the same period in 2019 to 106,428 units.
No sales are expected in April as MCO was extended until 28 April 2020. Showrooms closed.

On March 24, Malaysian Automotive Association (MAA) announced that new car sales of 40,403 units in February increased 1.5% over the same month in 2019.
PVs (passenger vehicles) sales were down 0.1% to 36,702 units. CVs (commercial vehicles) sales were up 19.9% to 3,701 units.
New car sales for the first two months of 2020 decreased 5.9% from the same period in 2019 to 83,055 units.

New car production for the first two months of 2020 decreased 9.1% from the same period in 2019 to 85,787 units.
MAA assumed that sales volume for March 2020 is expected to be lower than February 2020 because of restrictions due to Movement Control Order.

Malaysian new car sales decrease 12.0%, production decrease 16.6% in January
On February 20, Malaysian Automotive Association (MAA) announced that new car sales of 42,623 units in January decreased 12.0% over the same month in 2019.
PVs (passenger vehicles) sales were down 11.6% to 39,127 units. CVs (commercial vehicles) sales were down 16.5% to 3,496 units.
The number of Malaysian car production for January decreased 16.6% over the previous year to 45,416 units.
MAA reported sales volume in January 2020 was 5,827 units or 12% lower than similar corresponding month in 2019 because of short working month due to the Chinese New Year festive holidays and market uncertainty following the annoucement of the implementation of new Excise Duty Regulations.
MAA assumed that sales volume for February 2020 is expected to be slightly better than January 2020 due to issues pertaining to CKD vehicles excise duty valuation had been resolved.
