Australian new vehicle sales up 12.1% in December, up 3.0% in 2022
On January 5, the Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries announced that new vehicle registrations of 87,920 units in December 2022 represented an increase 12.1% over December 2021.
New vehicle sales of 1,081,429 units in 2022 represented an 3.0% increase from 2021.
Passenger car sales of 203,056 units in 2022 represented an 8.4% decrease from the same period in 2021, SUV sales of 574,632 units represented an 8.1% increase, LCV sales of 256,382 units represented an 1.2% increase and MHCV sales of 47,359 units represented an 9.3% increase.
FCAI Chief Executive Tony Weber said the pathway through COVID recovery, microprocessor shortages and bottlenecks due to global shipping issues had created great challenges for car makers and their dealer networks in 2022.
The best-selling cars in 2022, in order of popularity, were Toyota Hi-Lux, Ford Ranger and Toyota RAV4.

Australian new vehicle sales increase 17.9% in November
On December 5, the Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries announced that new vehicle registrations of 95,080 units in November 2022 represented an increase 17.9% over November 2021.
The automotive sector is continuing to recover from pandemic related shutdowns, a global shortage of microprocessors and the general supply chain uncertainty it experienced over the last two years. While this is positive news, many customers are still facing extended wait times for their vehicle, with expected delivery dates for some models beyond 12 months.
New vehicle sales of 993,509 units in the first eleven months of the year represented an 2.3% increase from the same period in 2021.
Passenger car sales of 16,692 units in November represented a 0.8% decrease from the same period in 2021,
SUV sales of 52,395 units represented an 31.9% increase, LCV sales of 21,449 units represented an 6.1% increase and MHCV sales of 4,544 units represented an 18.0% increase.
Among the companies, Toyota sales increased 31.9% to 20,107 units, Mazda sales increased 42.6% to 7,549 units, Ford sales increased 15.3% to 7,165 units, Kia sales increased 24.5% to 6,120 units and Mitsubishi sales decreased 2.8% to 5,559 units, compared to November 2021.
The best-selling cars in November 2022, in order of popularity, were Toyota Hilux , Ford Ranger and Toyota Corolla.

Australian new vehicle sales increase 16.9% in October
On November 4, the Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries announced that new vehicle registrations of 87,299 units in October 2022 represented an increase 16.9% over October 2021.
New vehicle sales of 898,429 units in the first ten months of the year represented an 0.9% increase from the same period in 2021.
Passenger car sales of 13,321 units in October represented a 16.5% decrease from the same period in 2021,
SUV sales of 48,463 units represented an 37.1% increase, LCV sales of 21,447 units represented an 10.9% increase and MHCV sales of 4,068 units represented an 1.4% increase.
Among the companies, Toyota sales increased 18.6% to 18,259 units, Ford sales increased 43.2% to 7,823 units, Kia sales increased 31.5% to 6,380 units, Mitsubishi sales increased 42.3% to 5,982 units and Mazda sales increased 11.5% to 5,775 units, compared to October 2021.
The best-selling cars in October 2022, in order of popularity, were Ford Ranger, Toyota Hilux and Toyota Rav4.

Australian new vehicle sales increase 12.3% in September
On October 5, the Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries announced that new vehicle registrations of 93,555 units in September 2022 represented an increase 12.3% over September 2021.
New vehicle sales of 811,130 units in the first nine months of the year represented a 0.6% decrease from the same period in 2021.
Passenger car sales of 17,490 units in September represented a 5.6% decrease from the same period in 2021, SUV sales of 49,643 units represented an 21.6% increase, LCV sales of 22,252 units represented an 11.1% increase and MHCV sales of 4,170 units represented an 6.5% increase.
Among the companies, Toyota sales decreased 26.5% to 14,852 units, Kia sales increased 41.4% to 7,290 units, Mazda sales increased 10.7% to 7,259 units, Mitsubishi sales increased 47.3% to 6,784 units and Ford sales increased 15.2% to 6,635 units, compared to September 2021.
The best-selling cars in September 2022, in order of popularity, were Toyota Hi-Lux , Ford Ranger and Tesla Model Y .

On September 5, the Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries announced that new vehicle registrations of 95,256 units in August 2022 represented an increase 17.3% over August 2021.
New vehicle sales of 717,575 units in the first eight months of the year represented a 2.1% decrease from the same period in 2021.
Passenger car sales of 19,997 units in August represented an 15.3% increase from the same period in 2021, SUV sales of 48,571 units represented an 18.5% increase, LCV sales of 22,472 units represented an 16.8% increase and MHCV sales of 4,216 units represented an 15.7% increase.
Among the companies, Toyota sales increased 3.3% to 20,616 units, Mazda sales increased 15.4% to 8,824 units, Kia sales increased 33.9% to 6,780 units, Hyundai sales increased 32.4% to 6,643 units and Mitsubishi sales increased 32.9% to 6,380 units, compared to August 2021.
The best-selling cars in August 2022, in order of popularity, were Toyota Hilux, Ford Ranger and Toyota RAV4.

Australian new vehicle sales increase 0.4% in July
On August 3, the Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries announced that new vehicle registrations of 84,461 units in July 2022 represented an increase 0.4% over July 2021.
New vehicle sales of 622,319 units in the first seven months of the year represented a 4.5% decrease from the same period in 2021.
Passenger car sales of 16,023 units in July represented a 9.1% decrease from the same period in 2021,
SUV sales of 44,704 units represented an 6.4% increase, LCV sales of 20,064 units represented a 4.4% decrease and MHCV sales of 3,670 units represented an 4.0% increase.
Among the companies, Toyota sales increased 10.9% to 19,565 units, Mazda sales decreased 11.7% to 7,879 units, Hyundai sales increased 34.2% to 6,792 units, Kia sales increased 29.0% to 6,711 units and Mitsubishi sales increased 5.8% to 5,611 units, compared to July 2021.
The best-selling cars in July 2022, in order of popularity, were Toyota Hi-Lux, Ford Ranger and Toyota RAV4.

Australian new vehicle sales decrease 9.7% in June
On July 5, the Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries announced that new vehicle registrations of 99,974 units in June 2022 represented a decrease 9.7% over June 2021.
New vehicle sales of 537,858 units in the first six months of the year represented a 5.2% decrease from the same period in 2021.
Passenger car sales of 18,450 units in June represented a 21.0% decrease from the same period in 2021, SUV sales of 52,507 units represented a 2.3% decrease, LCV sales of 23,852 units represented a 16.5% decrease and MHCV sales of 5,165 units represented a 3.5% increase.
Among the companies, Toyota sales increased 7.0% to 22,561 units, Kia sales increased 7.5% to 8,480 units, Hyundai sales increased 12.3% to 8,259 units, Mazda sales decreased 48.9% to 6,245 units and Mitsubishi sales increased 3.6% to 5,846 units, compared to June 2021.
The best-selling cars in June 2022, in order of popularity, were Toyota Hi-Lux, Hyundai Tucson and Ford Ranger.

On June 3, the Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries announced that new vehicle registrations of 94,383 units in May 2022 represented a decrease 6.4% over May 2021.
New vehicle sales of 437,884 units in the first five months of the year represented a 4.1% decrease from the same period in 2021.
Passenger car sales of 17,252 units in May represented a 14.7% decrease from the same period in 2021, SUV sales of 51,459 units represented a 4.0% decrease,
LCV sales of 21,528 units represented a 7.1% decrease and MHCV sales of 4,144 units represented an 8.8% increase.
Among the companies, Toyota sales increased 7.8% to 22,813 units, Kia sales increased 2.6% to 7,307 units, Hyundai sales increased 9.5% to 7,063 units, Mazda sales decreased 38.7% to 6,474 units and Mitsubishi sales decreased 6.1% to 6,086 units, compared to May 2021.
The best-selling cars in May 2022, in order of popularity, were Toyota Hi-Lux , Toyota RAV4 and Ford Ranger.

On May 4, the Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries announced that new vehicle registrations of 81,065 units in April 2022 represented a decrease 12.2% over April 2021.
New vehicle sales of 343,501 units in the first four months of the year represented a 3.5% decrease from the same period in 2021.
Passenger car sales of 15,444 units in April represented a 14.5% decrease from the same period in 2021, SUV sales of 42,370 units represented a 13.8% decrease, LCV sales of 19,636 units represented a 9.6% decrease and MHCV sales of 3,615 units represented an 6.5% increase.
Among the companies, Toyota sales decreased 11.1% to 17,956 units, Mazda sales decreased 26.6% to 7,378 units, Mitsubishi sales decreased 14.0% to 6,463 units, Kia sales increased 8.3% to 6,180 units and Hyundai sales decreased 3.8% to 5,552 units, compared to April 2022.
