Mexico’s automotive production, exports up in December, setting full-year records
On January 8, the Mexican Automotive Industry Association (AMIA) reported that 246,248 cars and light trucks were produced in Mexico in December 2017, a 1.5% increase compared to the 242,495 units assembled in December 2016.
Record full-year vehicle production of 3,773,569 units in 2017 was an 8.9% increase compared to 2016 levels.
During December, 252,723 vehicles were exported, a 16.7% increase from the same month in 2016.
Record full-year vehicle exports of 3,102,604 units in 2017 represented an increase of 12.1% increase compared to 2016 levels.
Of the vehicles exported in December, 187,474 vehicles (74.2% share) were shipped to the U.S., 14,843 vehicles (5.9% share) went to Canada, and 9,572 vehicles (3.8% share) went to Germany.
Of the exports from Mexico for the entire year of 2017, 75.3% went to the U.S., 8.6% went to Canada, and 3.1% went to Germany.
Of the vehicles sold in the U.S. market in December, 11.7% were of Mexican origin.
Of the vehicles sold in the U.S. market throughout all of 2017, 13.6% were of Mexican origin.

Mexico’s record automotive production up 4.5% in November, exports up 11.9%
On december 6, the Mexican Automotive Industry Association (AMIA) reported that 332,449 cars and light trucks were produced in Mexico in November. The record monthly production represented an 4.5% increase compared to the 318,149 units assembled in November 2016.
In the first eleven months of 2017, 3,527,321 vehicles were produced, a 9.4% increase compared to the same period in 2016.
During November, 274,520 vehicles were exported, a 11.9% increase from the same month in 2016.
For the first eleven months of 2017, exports totaled 2,849,881 vehicles, an increase of 11.7% compared to the 2,551,623 units from the same period last year.
Of the vehicles exported in November, 186,674 vehicles (68.0% share) were shipped to the U.S., 33,535 vehicles (12.2% share) went to Canada, and 10,878 vehicles (4.0% share) went to Germany.
Of the exports from Mexico in the first eleven months of 2017, 75.4% went to the U.S., 8.9% went to Canada, and 3.1% went to Germany.
Of the vehicles sold in the U.S. market in November, 13.4% were of Mexican origin, representing a decreased percentage over the 13.8% of vehicles sold in the U.S. that were of Mexican origin during the first eleven months of 2017.

Mexico’s record automotive production up 11.1% in October, exports up 12.7%
On November 8, the Mexican Automotive Industry Association (AMIA) reported that 365,111 cars and light trucks were produced in Mexico in October,
The record monthly production represented an 11.1% increase compared to the 328,490 units assembled in October 2016.
In the first ten months of 2017, 3,194,872 vehicles were produced, a 10.0% increase compared to the same period in 2016.
During October, 287,465 vehicles were exported, a 12.7% increase from the same month in 2016.
For the first ten months of 2017, exports totaled 2,575,361 vehicles, an increase of 11.7% compared to the 2,306,293 units from the same period last year.
Of the vehicles exported in October, 219,585 vehicles (76.4% share) were shipped to the U.S., 20,403 vehicles (7.1% share) went to Canada, and 10,457 vehicles (3.6% share) went to Germany.
Of the exports from Mexico in the first ten months of 2017, 76.1% went to the U.S., 8.5% went to Canada, and 3.0% went to Germany.
Of the vehicles sold in the U.S. market in October, 16.3% were of Mexican origin, representing an increased percentage over the 13.9% of vehicles sold in the U.S. that were of Mexican origin during the first ten months of 2017.

Mexican production up 7.7%, exports up 15.0% in September
The Asociacion Mexicana de la Industria Automotriz (AMIA) released September 2017 detailed figures on October 9.
Production of 307,174 light vehicles in September was up 7.7% from the 285,344 units produced in the same month last year.
Productions by manufacture are as follows: GM was up 2.3% to 70,551 units, Nissan was down 3.7% to 63,271 units, FCA was up 30.9% to 58,339 units, VW was up 180.5% to 34,321 units, and Kia was up 43.6% to 22,294 units.
Exports in September of 270,899 light vehicles showed an increase of 15.0% compared to the number of vehicles exported last September.
Exports by manufactures are as follows: GM was up 11.8% to 60,921 units, FCA was up 18.6% to 50,363 units, Nissan was up 38.1% to 45,173 units, VW was up 72.4% to 32,029 units, and Ford was down 31.7% to 23,224 units.
The destination of first nine month export volumes indicates that the majority of exports, 76.1%, went to the U.S. The North America region accounted for 84.8% of the total exports.

Mexican production up 5.7%, exports down 0.8% in August
The Asociacion Mexicana de la Industria Automotriz (AMIA) released August 2017 detailed figures on September 7.
Production of 351,855 light vehicles in August was up 5.7% from the 332,769 units produced in the same month last year.
Productions by manufacture are as follows: Nissan was flat with 81,681 units, GM was down 8.0% to 62,899 units, FCA was up 65.1% to 61,344 units, VW was up 3.5% to 46,970 units, and Ford was down 3.8% to 31,772 units.
Exports in August of 260,607 light vehicles showed a decrease of 0.8% compared to the number of vehicles exported last August.
Exports by manufactures are as follows: GM was up 17.7% to 59,946 units, FCA was up 36.9% to 57,170 units, Nissan was down 26.3% to 31,909 units, VW was down 18.9% to 29,339 units, and Ford was down 17.6% to 26,151 units.
The destination of first eight month export volumes indicates that the majority of exports, 76.1%, went to the U.S. The North America region accounted for 84.9% of the total exports.

Mexican production up 0.7%, exports up 7.8% in July
The Asociacion Mexicana de la Industria Automotriz (AMIA) released July 2017 figures on August 7.
Production of 286,417 light vehicles in July was up 0.7% from the 284,398 units produced in the same month last year.
Productions by manufacture are as follows: GM was up 18.4% to 60,802 units, FCA was up 13.7% to 55,723 units, Nissan was down 12.4% to 52,016 units, VW was down 13.3% to 36,799 units, and Kia was up 71.0% to 21,978 units.
Exports in July of 243,056 light vehicles showed an increase of 7.8% compared to the number of vehicles exported last July.
Exports by manufactures are as follows: FCA was up 27.8% to 55,995 units, GM was up 33.4% to 49,310 units, VW was up 4.1% to 35,385 units, Nissan was down 15.5% to 31,113 units, and Ford was down 27.8% to 21,193 units.
The destination of first seven month export volumes indicates that the majority of exports, 76.4%, went to the U.S. The North America region accounted for 85.2% of the total exports.

Mexican production up 4.9%, exports up 12.0% in June
The Asociacion Mexicana de la Industria Automotriz (AMIA) released June 2017 figures on July 10.
Production of 334,606 light vehicles in June was up 4.9% from the 319,122 units produced in the same month last year.
Productions by manufacture are as follows: Nissan was down 0.2% to 77,992 units, GM was up 17.0% to 70,452 units, FCA was up 28.0% to 59,340 units, VW was down 0.5% to 40,753 units, and Ford was down 17.9% to 29,312 units.
Exports in June of 276,626 light vehicles showed an increase of 12.0% compared to the number of vehicles exported last June.
Exports by manufactures are as follows: GM was up 40.4% to 60,439 units, FCA was up 40.6% to 53,106 units, Nissan was up 2.9% to 46,457 units, VW was up 8.1% to 36,087 units, and Ford was down 22.4% to 29,060 units.
The destination of first six month export volumes indicates that the majority of exports, 76.8%, went to the U.S. The North America region accounted for 85.2% of the total exports.

The Asociacion Mexicana de la Industria Automotriz (AMIA) released May 2017 figures on June 6.
Production of 327,832 light vehicles in May was up 17.3% from the 279,508 units produced in the same month last year.
Productions by manufacture are as follows: Nissan was up 16.2% to 81,028 units, GM was up 6.9% to 63,407 units, FCA was up 47.6% to 50,277 units, VW was up 27.4% to 41,825 units, and Ford was down 10.4% to 28,419 units.
Exports in May of 257,736 light vehicles showed an big increase of 13.9% compared to the number of vehicles exported last May.
Exports by manufactures are as follows: GM was up 22.1% to 55,027 units, FCA was up 47.9% to 44,749 units, Nissan was down 2.7% to 41,009 units, VW was up 21.7% to 36,499 units, and Ford was down 25.6% to 27,936 units.
The destination of first five month export volumes indicates that the majority of exports, 76.6%, went to the U.S. The North America region accounted for 85.1% of the total exports.

Production of 278,173 light vehicles in April was up 3.2% from the 269,604 units produced in the same month last year.
Productions by manufacture are as follows: Nissan was down 12.9% to 61,424 units, GM was down 9.9% to 52,594 units, FCA was up 41.4% to 41,147 units, VW was down 1.7% to 38,803 units, and Ford was up 10.2% to 28,877 units.
Exports in April of 228,810 light vehicles showed an big increase of 16.1% compared to the number of vehicles exported last April.
Exports by manufactures are as follows: GM was down 0.6% to 43,974 units, FCA was up 44.9% to 41,885 units, VW was up 34.7% to 33,554 units, Nissan was down 25.0% to 29,414 units, and Ford was up 46.1% to 27,697 units.
The destination of first four month export volumes indicates that the majority of exports, 76.4%, went to the U.S. The North America region accounted for 85.4% of the total exports.

The Asociacion Mexicana de la Industria Automotriz (AMIA) released March 2017 figures on April 6.
Production of 363,687 light vehicles in March was up 36.2% from the 266,960 units produced in the same month last year.
Productions by manufacture are as follows: Nissan was up 25.7% to 86,874 units, GM was up 27.9% to 69,392 units, FCA was up 95.8% to 51,157 units, VW was up 46.8% to 48,187 units, and Ford was up 13.4% to 43,175 units.
According to OICA 2016 world production report, Mexico was the seventh largest automobile manufacturing country in the world and number 1 in Latin America.
Exports in March of 297,571 light vehicles also showed an big increase of 32.7% compared to the number of vehicles exported last March.

The destination of first three month export volumes indicates that the majority of exports, 75.7%, went to the U.S. The North America region accounted for 84.5% of the total exports.

Mexican productions and exports up in February
The Asociacion Mexicana de la Industria Automotriz (AMIA) released February 2017 figures on March 6.
Production of 301,475 light vehicles in February was up 11.1% from the 271,278 units produced in the same month last year.
Productions by manufacture are as follows: Nissan was up 3.4% to 73,922 units, GM was up 37.7% to 64,239 units, FCA was up 66.5% to 44,043 units, VW was up 5.8% to 41,750 units, and Ford was down 50.7% to 19,919 units.
Exports in February of 240,909 light vehicles also showed an increase of 9.7% compared to the number of vehicles exported last February.
Exports by manufactures are as follows: Nissan was up 6.2% to 50,639 units, GM was up 29.3% to 45,922 units, FCA was up 77.1% to 45,655 units, VW was down 6.9% to 28,096 units, and Ford was down 54.5% to 17,996 units.
The destination of first two month export volumes indicates that the majority of exports, 75.6%, went to the U.S. The North America region accounted for 84.7% of the total exports.

Mexican production up 4.1%, exports down 0.7% in January
On February 7, the Mexican automotive association AMIA reported that 278,542 light vehicles were produced in Mexico in January 2017, a 4.1% increase in production over January 2016.
Of the top three manufacturers in January 2017, Nissan produced 67,110 units, a decrease of 6.1%; GM produced 51,875 units, an increase of 16.5%; and FCA produced 48,199 units, an increase of 9.0% from January 2016.
Exports of 211,682 light vehicles in January represented a decrease of 0.7% compared to exports in the same month last year.
Compared to January 2016, GM exports increased 7.4%, FCA exports decreased 1.8%, Nissan exports decreased 24.3%, Ford exports decreased 33.7%, and Mazda exports jumped 81.3%.
The United States accounted for 76.6% of exported vehicles from Mexico in January. The North America region accounted for 85.4% of the total exports.
