Mexican auto production increase 2.5% in March 2026
OEMs built 343,520 light vehicles in Mexico in March 2026, resulting in a 2.5% increase compared to the 335,065 units built in the same month of 2025, according to the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI).
OEMs with production increases in March included Audi with an increase of 70.5% to 13,635 units; VW with an increase of 50.3% to 35,094 units; Kia with an increase of 16.9% to 26,600 units; Chrysler with an increase of 7.4% to 38,637 units; Mercedes Benz with an increase of 2.6% to 5,096 units; and Toyota with an increase of 1.7% to 27,730 units.
OEMs whose production declined in March compared to the previous year are Mazda with a decrease of 24.1% to 14,395 units; Nissan with a decrease of 16.6% to 42,022 units; Acura with a decrease of 16.5% to 3,059 units; JAC with a decrease of 14.1% to 1,788 units; Ford with a decrease of 4.5% to 34,213 units; Honda with a decrease of 0.8% to 17,758 units; GM with a decrease of 0.5% to 74,949 units and BMW Group with a decrease of 0.5% to 8,544 units.
Although production exceeded the year-earlier level, the pace of growth was limited. In March, reports cited labor negotiations at vehicle assembly plants, as well as several temporary production suspensions related to supplier issues.

Mexican auto production decreases 1.8% in February 2026
OEMs built 311,457 light vehicles in Mexico in February 2026, resulting in a 1.8% decrease compared to the 317,178 units built in the same month of 2025, according to the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI).
OEMs with production increases in February included Audi with an increase of 132.3% to 11,764 units; VW with an increase of 45.1% to 30,032 units; Chrysler with an increase of 29.4% to 40,865 units; Kia with an increase of 12.0% to 24,100 units; Mercedes Benz with an increase of 7.1% to 4,912 units; GM with a increase of 4.6% to 68,079 units; and Toyota with an increase of 1.7% to 25,086 units.
OEMs whose production declined in February compared to the previous year are BMW Group with a decrease of 83.9% to 1,431 units; Nissan with a decrease of 32.7% to 40,214 units; Acura with a decrease of 31.5% to 2,195 units; Mazda with a decrease of 25.7% to 13,460 units; JAC with a decrease of 15.2% to 1,766 units; Honda with a decrease of 9.2% to 16,045; and Ford with a decrease of 8.1% to 31,508 units.
In BMW’s case, the decline in production can be partly attributed to U.S. tariffs, especially considering that around 42% of the plant’s output was exported to that country in 2025. Production had to be adjusted in response to changing market conditions, similar to other plants that primarily supply the U.S. market. In addition, the facility is currently undergoing special works to prepare for the start of production of the Neue Klasse model, which is scheduled to begin in 2027.

Mexican auto production decreases 2.7% in January 2026
OEMs built 303,980 light vehicles in Mexico in January 2026, resulting in a 2.7% decrease compared to the 312,257 units built in the same month of 2025, according to the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI).
OEMs with production increases in January included VW with an increase of 66.4% to 34,580 units; GM with an increase of 22.2% to 72,052 units; Audi with an increase of 15.2% to 11,067 units; Acura with an increase of 13.7% to 2,544 units; Chrysler with an increase of 9.4% to 24,744 units; Ford with an increase of 8.3% to 35,292 units; Kia with an increase of 5.3% to 25,600 units; and Honda with an increase of 2.4% to 16,027 units.
OEMs whose production declined in January compared to the previous year are JAC with a decrease of 53.2% to 1,475 units; Mazda with a decrease of 43.9% to 11,362 units; Toyota with a decrease of 43.1% to 15,081 units; Nissan with a decrease of 31.1% to 42,115 units; BMW Group with a decrease of 23.2% to 7,461 units; and Mercedes with a decrease of 4.6% to 4,580 units.
One of the reasons for the decrease in production is the deacceleration of U.S. market, where most of the exports of vehicles manufactured withing the country are sent to. “There is still concern in the United States about the increase in non-payments on auto loans, which exceed 5% and are considered a limiting factor in demand,” said Guillermo Rosales, the executive president of the Mexican Association of Automotive Distributors (AMDA), at a press conference dated on 11 February. The automotive industry is bracing for a year of intensifying trade uncertainty in 2026. This is driven by the upcoming USMCA 'Joint Review' on July, alongside the U.S. midterm elections in November, both of which are expected to significantly impact future trade policies and tariff structures.
