Mexican auto production decreases 9.1% in April 2025
OEMs built 326,069 light vehicles in Mexico in April 2025, resulting in a 9.1% decrease compared to the 358,597 units built in the same month of 2024, according to the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI).
OEMs with production increases in April included Ford with an increase of 0.3% to 38,505 units; Toyota with an increase of 27.0% to 27,256 units and Honda with an increase of 11.3% to 18,654 units.
OEMs whose production declined in April compared to the previous year are Chrysler with a decrease of 46.7% to 21,069 units; BMW Group with a decrease of 27.1% to 5,282 units; VW with a decrease of 18.8% to 29,235 units; JAC with a decrease of 14.8% to 2,225 units; GM with a decrease of 9.6% to 71,337 units; Nissan with a decrease of 10.0% to 50,289 units; Audi with a decrease of 8.7% to 14,002 units; Kia with a decrease of 3.9% to 23,250 units; Mazda with a decrease of 1.9% to 17,160 units; and Mercedes with a decrease of 0.9% to 4,700 units.

Mexican auto production increases 12.1% in March 2025
OEMs built 338,669 light vehicles in Mexico in March 2025, resulting in a 12.1% increase compared to the 301,982 units built in the same month of 2024, according to the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI).
OEMs with production increases in March included GM with an increase of 13.7% to 75,361 units; Chrysler with an increase of 12.6% to 35,960 units; Ford with an increase of 46.0% to 35,840 units; Toyota with an increase of 68.9% to 27,279 units; Kia with an increase of 15.5% to 22,750 units; Mazda with an increase of 15.2% to 18,958 units; Honda with an increase of 21.8% to 21,563 units; BMW Group with an increase of 9.8% to 8,584 units; and JAC with an increase of 40.2% to 2,082 units.
OEMs whose production declined in March compared to the previous year are Audi with a decrease of 30.8% to 7,995 units; VW with a decrease of 27.6% to 23,351 units; Mercedes with a decrease of 6.5% to 4,966 units; and Nissan with a decrease of 0.9% to 50,376 units.

Mexican auto production decreases 0.8% in February 2025
OEMs built 317,178 light vehicles in Mexico in February 2025, resulting in a 0.8% decrease compared to the 319,828 units built in the same month of 2024, according to the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI).
OEMs with production increases in February included Nissan with an increase of 7.2% to 59,731 units; Ford with an increase of 11.0% to 34,301 units; Toyota with an increase of 98.2% to 24,676 units; Kia with an increase of 8.9% to 21,510 units; Mazda with an increase of 4.4% to 18,112 units and BMW Group with an increase of 1.0% to 8,876 units.
OEMs whose production declined in February compared to the previous year are VW with a decrease of 45.0% to 20,699 units; Mercedes with a decrease of 24.8% to 4,585 units; JAC with a decrease of 11.6% to 2,082 units; Audi with a decrease of 11.2% to 5,065 units; Chrysler with a decrease of 8.8% to 31,585 units; GM with a decrease of 2.8% to 65,085 units and Honda with a decrease of 4.1% to 16,071 units.
Scotiabank projects for 2025, the way to avoid a significant long-term decline is for Mexico to align with U.S. needs and requirements. Hence, the recently reiterated interest by Claudia Sheinbaum’s administration in increasing the added value of the automotive chain produced in Mexico and reducing exposure to Chinese inputs.

Mexican auto production increase 1.7% in January 2025
OEMs built 312,257 light vehicles in Mexico in January 2025, resulting in a 1.7% increase compared to the 307,090 units built in the same month of 2024, according to the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI).
OEMs with production increases in January included Nissan with an increase of 8.0% to 61,085 units; Toyota with an increase of 243.1% to 26,509 units; Kia with an increase of 53.8% to 24,300 units; Mazda with an increase of 9.4% to 20,254 units; BMW Group with an increase of 5.3% to 9,716 units; Audi with an increase of 133.9% to 9,610 units; and JAC with an increase of 25.4% to 3,152 units.
OEMs whose production declined in January compared to the previous year are Chrysler with a decrease of 39.9% to 22,613 units; VW with a decrease of 29.8% to 20,780 units; GM with a decrease of 12.4% to 58,959 units; Honda with a decrease of 4.2% to 17,885 units; Ford with a decrease of 5.2% to 32,591 units; and Mercedes with a decrease of 4.9% to 4,803 units.
