Automotive World Autumn 2022: Autonomous Driving and ADAS

Expanding AD and ADAS technology development

2022/10/06

Summary

The Automotive World Autumn 2022 technology exhibition (Venue: Makuhari Messe) was held August 31 to September 2, 2022. Although many visitors came to the exhibition because it was held at the same time as NEPCON Japan (R&D and Manufacturing) and RoboDEX (Robot Development & Application), the area related to autonomous driving (AD) was relatively small, and the number of exhibits itself was not large. However, various development support technologies and facilities were introduced, which gave a sense of the broadening base of ADAS (advanced driver-assistance systems) development.

Macnica introduced Nvidia's automated driving development platform for the development of AD and ADAS functions. IT Access introduced AdaCore's model-based development tools for the development of control algorithms and software to realize functionality. UL Japan’s exhibit was also eye-catching, presenting technical support tools related to functional safety, cyber security, and SOTIF (Safety of the Intended Functionality), which are necessary for the launch of actual products in the world. In addition, NGC introduced Quantum's tools that streamline the management and operation of collected data to support development and evaluation on actual roads, which is indispensable for ADAS development. For testing, Hokkaido was the first prefecture in Japan to invite automated driving tests. Securing and operating an efficient and safe testing site is a heavy burden for automakers, and if Hokkaido meets the needs, it is expected to make a significant contribution to the development of AD and ADAS.

Although only one company exhibited parts, technologies of various levels and domains were introduced, ranging from functional development to software and hardware component development, as well as support for public road testing.
