Compared to previous JSAE events on autonomous driving related technologies that focused on sensing and autonomous driving systems, this year’s forum consisted of more sessions that dealt with the peripheral technologies associated with the future era of autonomous driving such as data analysis, information security, and approaches to mobility societies.

Among these trends, the environment surrounding drive recorders has changed dramatically, and while drive recorder products have been networked and are powered by AI, the number of companies aiming to establish businesses utilizing these devices is also increasing. The drive recorder market has grown rapidly, expanding from a product that initially had strong entertainment qualities into a product today with a variety of applications, such as safety equipment and a market positioning as a key device to enable Mobility as a Service (MaaS) solutions. Along with this, a new category of on-board equipment called DMS (Drive and Driver Monitoring Systems) has emerged as a video device embedded with advanced technologies such as the introduction of internet connectivity and AI technology.
