Summary

 The 2014 Beijing International Automotive Exhibition was held in April 2014. This third report for the Auto Show contains details of the all-new gasoline-fueled vehicles that were exhibited by ten OEMs from Japan, Korea, Taiwan and Israel.

 A total of 19 new models were exhibited by Toyota, Nissan, Honda, Suzuki, Mazda, Hyundai, Kia, Yulon and Qoros Automotive (an Israeli OEM). Out of the 19 models, six models were concept cars and 13 models were gasoline-fueled.

Toyota: The 11th-generation MC platform-based Corolla, Lexus, and NX 200t

Tianjin FAW Toyota Toyota 11th generation Corolla  A premiere debut of the Chinese version of the fully-redesigned (11th-generation) Corolla four-door sedan. It is 4630mm long, 1775mm wide and has a 2700mm wheelbase. It is a sibling of the Levin to be introduced by GAC Toyota.
 The New Corolla is produced at a plant of Tianjin FAW Toyota. The gasoline version will reach market in the summer of 2014 at the earliest (the HV version will reach market in 2015).
 It is based on Toyota's "MC" global platform. It features the "Keen Look" front-face design known for intelligent, sharp impression.The same design is adopted on the Corolla sold in the U.S. as well. The car is powered by a recently-upgraded 1.6-liter or 1.8-liter Dual VVT-i gasoline engine paired with an 8-speed S-CVT transmission. A Hong Kong-based entertainer, Louis Koo Tin Lok, is said to be the "image man" of this vehicle.
GAC Toyota Toyota Levin  A premiere debut of a four-door midsize sedan for Chinese market. It is 4630mm long, 1775mm wide, and 1480mm high. It has a 2700mm wheelbase. It is a sibling of the 11th-generation Corolla produced by Tianjin FAW Toyota.
 Production of the gasoline-fueled model will start prior to market launch in June 2014. It will be based on Toyota's "MC" global platform. In 2015, the company plans to launch the hybrid version that will be fitted with a hybrid system built in China.
 The rear lamp unit consists of over 50 LED lamps. The front seat position is adjustable up to 260mm longitudinally and 60mm vertically. The Toyota Levin is positioned as the strategic model in GAC Toyota's sales target of 500,000 units in 2015.

Toyota Lexus
NX 200t
 A world premiere of Toyota's first upper-end compact crossover SUV carrying the Lexus brand. It is based on the LF-NX concept that was unveiled in 2013. It is 4630mm long, 1845mm wide and 1645mm high and has a 2660mm wheelbase.
 The car features urban and sharp appearance. The test-drive of the vehicle was conducted for more than 1 million kilometers before production. The front-wheel drive(FWD) model with 1710kg vehicle weight has JC08 cycle fuel efficiency of 12.8km/liter. The all-wheel drive(AWD) model with 1770kg vehicle weight and 18-inch wheel has fuel efficiency of 12.4km/liter.
 The Lexus NX 200t is driven by a new 2.0-liter 8AR-FTS engine with a water-cooled exhaust manifold integrated into the cylinder head, and the world's first twin-scroll turbocharger. The car also incorporates new combustion technologies such as D-4ST direct-injection for turbochargers and VVT-iW variable valve timing. The engine is also combined with the start-stop system.

Nissan: Lannia, March-based Venucia R30, and locally-built Infiniti Q50

Dongfeng Nissan Passenger Vehicles Nissan Lannia Concept  A world premiere of a concept sedan (next-generation model of the C-segment Lannia) which was designed for "Balinghou" (the post-1980 urban Chinese generation who account for about 240 million people).
 The Lannia Concept is the second model (after the Friend-Me concept car unveiled at the 2013 Shanghai Auto Show) that was designed chiefly by Chinese designers and jointly developed by Nissan Design China (NDC) and Nissan Global Design Center (NGDC).
 The concept car with energetic, flowing design hints at the direction of Nissan's global strategic car.
Venucia R30  A premiere debut of the partially redesigned March (compact hatchback) that used to be produced in China. It will be sold in China under the name of Venucia R30. It is 3775mm long, 1665mm wide and 1530mm high and has the same wheelbase (2450mm) as the March. It will be released in July 2014 for under CNY 50,000 to CNY 60,000.
 The Venucia R30 is fitted with Nissan's 1.2-liter HR12DE engine (maximum output: 58kW, maximum torque: 106Nm) mated with a 5-speed manual transmission. It has the minimum turning radius of 4.5m.

Note: Nissan exhibited "Nismo" brand models for the first time in China. Nissan will initially introduce (import) two models: the GT-R Nismo and the 370Z Nismo. The brand name, Nismo, stands for Nissan Motor Sports International.

OEM Model Descriptions
Dongfeng Nissan Passenger Vehicle Infiniti Q50  This high-grade sports sedan (previously called the Infiniti G Sedan) was unveiled earlier at the Guangzhou Motor Show held in November 2013. Only the standard-size global version was exhibited.
* A long-wheelbase version will be locally built at the Xiangyang plant in Hubei province starting at the end of 2014.
 The long-wheel version is designed for China, but the model itself is yet to be announced. The Chinese model will be driven by a 2.0-liter water-cooled inline four-cylinder turbocharged engine paired with a 7-speed automatic transmission. It will incorporate Nissan's original technologies called DAS (Direct Adaptive Steering) and ALC (Active Lane Control) along with the "VQ35HEV" (Direct Response Hybrid) system for faster acceleration.
* Import and sales to start in April 2014
 In April 2014, prior to the start of local production of the long-wheelbase version powered by a 2.0-liter engine, the company announced the prices of the imported models to be CNY 325,800 to CNY 549,800 and started sales of the hybrid versions with a 3.5-liter or 3.7-liter engine. In addition, the company will also start receiving orders for imported model fitted with a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine. Import and sales will start officially in summer 2014 (autumn 2014 in Europe).
* High-performance version exhibited (see the photos below)
 The Q50 Eau Rouge concept, a high-performance version of the Q50, made an Asian premiere at the Beijing Auto Show (after the global premiere at the Detroit Auto Show in January 2014). The concept model adopts a lot of carbon fiber for weight reduction. It is fitted with a 3.8-liter V6 engine (maximum output: 418kW, maximum torque: 600Nm). It accelerates from 0 to 60mph in 4 seconds and has maximum speed of 290km/h. The company did not disclose plans for production.

(Note 1) The Infiniti QX50 (previously called the Infiniti EX), a sporty SUV slated for production at Dongfeng Nissan Passenger Vehicle's Xiangyang plant, was not exhibited at the 2014 Beijing Auto Show. However, the company exhibited the Infiniti QX60 from the same QX series (SUV). It announced that its hybrid version, the Infiniti QX60 Hybrid (see the photo below), would be released for import and sale in China in the third quarter of 2014. The 7-seater hybrid SUV is fitted with a 2.5-liter inline 4-cylinder engine combined with a CVT transmission and a 15kW electric motor. In addition, the company plans to increase the number of the Infiniti models by 60% within the next five years and double the powertrain availability accordingly.

(Note 2) To ensure a smooth introduction of new models, the company changed the Infiniti model names. Starting with 2014 model year, the passenger cars have model names that start with "Q." SUVs and crossover models will have model names that start with "QX." Hence, the Infiniti G (sedan) was renamed as Infiniti Q50; the Infiniti G coupe and the Infiniti convertible as Infiniti Q60; the Infiniti M as Infiniti Q70; the Infiniti EX as Infiniti QX50; the Infiniti JX as Infiniti QX60; the Infiniti FX as Infiniti QX70; and the Infiniti QX56 as Infiniti QX80.

 The Infiniti sold at 17,108 units in China in calendar year 2013. (It was sold at 6,158 units in the first quarter of 2014). The sales goal for 2016 is set at 100,000 units.。

Honda: All-new Spirior concept, VEZEL and 3rd-generation Fit

 

OEM Model Descriptions
Dongfeng Honda Honda New Spirior concept  A world premiere of the concept of the Spirior all-new sporty sedan production model (based on the 9th-generation Accord). The production model will be built at the Wuhan plant, as was the first-generation Spirior. It will be launched in the fourth quarter of 2014.
 The car is built with Honda's "FUNTEC" technology (see Note 1). It is powered by a 2.4-liter direct-injection engine in combination with an 8-speed DCT transmission. In comparison with the first-generation Spirior, the New Spirior is characterized by new body design, more advanced technologies, enhanced dynamic performances and more evolved safety equipment.
GAC Honda Honda VEZEL  Honda's third locally-built global strategic midsize SUV after the Accord sedan and the Fit hatchback. Its design is characterized by the sports sedan's unique body line. It is GAC Honda's first production SUV and will reach market in the fourth quarter of 2014.
 The car is developed by using "FUNTEC" technology. Its powertrain is Honda's latest 1.5-liter direct-injection engine mated with the start-stop system.
Honda 3rd generation Fit  The fully-redesigned (third-generation) model of Honda's global strategic Fit hatchback. It is 4065mm long, 1695mm wide and 1525 high and has a 2530mm wheelbase. The New Fit is more advanced than the earlier models in terms of fuel efficiency, equipment, comfort and steering. Honda started to receive orders for the model in April 2014 and sales will start in May (with a starting price at CNY 73,800).
 In addition to the conventional ABS and traction control system (TCS) that regulates wheel spinning, the New Fit features Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA) system. The VSA system controls the vehicle's skidding and ensures stability in all aspects of "run, turn, and stop." It is the first model in the segment that is fitted with VSA.
 The car is developed by using "FUNTEC" technology. It is driven by the third-generation 1.5-liter i-VTEC direct injection engine paired with the start-stop system. It also features a 5-speed manual transmission or the new CVT transmission. The overall fuel efficiency is 5.3-liter/100km (according to the maker).

(Note 1) Honda's "FUNTEC" technology is a generic term of eco-technologies such as the engines that adopt Earth Dreams Technology, new CVT and DCT and start-stop system, as well as safety technologies such as lane departure warning system and emergency stop signal system (ESS).

Suzuki: Concept ALIVIO and iV-4 Concept to be built locally

Changan Suzuki Concept ALIVIO  A world premiere of the sedan concept which is very close to the production version. Suzuki aims to launch the production model in the C-segment, the largest market in China. The ALIVIO is based on the AUTHENTICS concept car that was exhibited at the 2013 Auto Shanghai.
 The Concept ALIVIO is 4545mm long, 1730mm wide and 1475mm high. It has a stable styling with a wide cabin and a low center of gravity. It also features sporty body design which is blended with sharp character line and smoothly curved surface. The production model will be produced at the Chunking plant and will be launched by the end of 2014 (for approximately CNY 160,000).
 The car is driven by a 1.6-liter inline 4-cylinder VVT engine with improved power output and fuel efficiency resulting from reduced weight and friction resistance. The engine is mated with a newly-developed lightweight and compact 6-speed automatic transmission.
Suzuki iV-4 Concept  A China premiere of the new compact SUV concept that features Suzuki's "ALLGRIP" next-generation AWD system. It inherits advanced design from Suzuki's SUVs including the illumination grille and other innovative elements. The iV-4 Concept will set the base for the compact SUV slated for mass production at the Changan plant in 2015.

Mazda: Fully-redesigned Atenza and Axela

FAW Car Mazda6 (New Atenza)  The latest model of the fully-redesigned Atenza (sedan). It is4870mm long, 1840mm wide and 1450mm high and has a 2830mm wheelbase. It features the dynamic body design that reflects Mazda's SKYACTIV technology and "KODO:Soul of Motion" theme. It has a fuel efficiency of 6.3- to 7.1-liter/100km (according to the maker).
 FAW Car's Changchun plant started producing the model in April 2014, based on the agreement with Mazda. Sales of the New Atenza started in May 2014, by a joint venture formed between Mazda and FAW Group. The JV started to take orders for CNY 189,800 to CNY 249,800. Its annual sales target for 2014 calendar year is set at 37,000 units.
 The sedan is fitted with the SKYACTIV-G 2.0- or 2.5-liter all-new high-performance direct-injection engine and a 6-speed automatic transmission with a manual mode (SKYACTIV-Drive). The car also features Mazda's i-stop start-stop system and i-ELOOP regenerative braking technology.
Changan Mazda Mazda3 (New Axela) 2/3box  The latest version of the fully-redesigned Axela comes in two versions. The hatchback model is 4461mm long, 1795mm wide and 1474mm high and has a 2700mm wheelbase. The sedan model is 4582mm long, 1795mm wide and 1458mm high and has a 2700mm wheelbase.
 The Mazda3 will be produced at the Nanjing plant and released in May 2014 (already launched in Japan and Europe). The car will be sold for CNY 120,000 to 170,000. It has fuel efficiency of 5.8- to 6.0-liter/100km (hatchback) and 5.9- to 6.2-liter/100km (sedan) (according to the maker).
 The car is fitted with Mazda's SKYACTIV-G new 1.5-liter or 2.0-liter high-performance direct-injection engine and the 6-speed SKYACTIV-MT manual transmission or SKYACTIV-Drive automatic transmission with manual mode. This is the first time that the 1.5-liter SKYACTIV-G engine is introduced in China. Other than the i-stop start-stop system and iELOOP regenerative braking technology, the car features Mazda Connect, Mazda's original next-generation on-board connectivity system.

Mitsubishi Motors: Partially-redesigned Lancer EX

Southeast Motor Lancer EX Future  The partially-redesigned production model of Mitsubishi Motors' global strategic car, the Lancer EX, for Chinese markets. It will be produced at Southeast Motor's Fuzhou plant and released in mid-2014.
 The car is equipped with Southeast Motor's AS&G start-stop system. Polyethylene terephthalate fiber is used to form the sports type seat that surrounds the occupant. The instrument panel that constantly reflect and update driving information have been refurbished. The car is equipped with the electric power steering (EPS), day lamps, and rear lamps that are made of light emitting diodes (LED).

Hyundai Motor: ix25 concept

Beijing Hyundai Motor Hyundai ix25 Concept  A world premiere of the SUV concept that is very close to the production model. The concept was designed for China. It has a bold front face and sporty rear design that emphasize the vehicle's classy impression. The SUV concept is 4270mm long, 1780mm wide and 1630mm high and has a 2590mm wheelbase.
 The production model, ix25, will be driven by a 2.0-liter Nu engine. It is designed for the young generation from 25 to 35 years of age. Kim Soo Hyun, a Korean star, is the poster man of the production model. It will be produced at the Shunyi plant and will be launched in the latter half of 2014.
 The market launch of the ix25 will complete Hyundai's SUV lineup plan in China that includes the ix35 (Tucson in Korea), Santa Fe and Grand Santa Fe that are already in the market.

Note: The fully-redesigned Genesis (driven by a 3.0- or 3.3-liter GDI engine) was exhibited in Hyundai's imported vehicle booth.

Kia Motors: K3s already in market and K4 concept to be locally built in mid-2014

Dongfeng Yueda Kia Kia K4 concept  A world premiere of the concept of the midsize four-door sedan, K4, developed for China. The K4 is positioned between the K3 and the K5. It is 4720mm long, 1815mm wide and 1465mm high and has a 2700mm wheelbase.
 The production model will be produced at the Yancheng plant and released in the latter half of 2014. Its sales targets are young families in China with parents whose ages are from 30 to 40.
 The sedan will be driven by a 1.6-liter GDI turbocharged engine in its first application in China, or a 1.8- or 2.0-liter engine, paired with the 6-speed manual, 6-speed automatic, or 7-speed DCT transmission.
Kia K3s  The Kia K3s is a five-door hatchback designed for the Chinese youth. It is 4365mm long, 1780mm wide and 1460mm high and has a 2700mm wheelbase. Production started at the Yancheng plant in March 2014 and it was released in April (for CNY 101,800 to CNY 143,800).
 The hatchback is driven by a 1.6-liter Gama engine mated with a 6-speed manual or automatic transmission. LED is used in day-light and combination rear lamps. The Kia 3s is introduced as the highest model in its class in China, fully equipped with the ABS+EBD, HAC/VDC, ESP, six airbags and rear-view camera.
 (Note) The "S" in the model name stands for "Stylish" and "Sporty." Lee Minho, a popular entertainer in Asia, is the poster person in promoting the vehicle's sales.

Note: Kia Motors exhibited the Soul EV hatchback, K5 Hybrid, and Niro HV concept. However, the second-generation Horki EV(maximum speed: 134km/h, cruising range: 150km, standard charging time: 6 hours, quick charge: 52 minutes) was not exhibited at the 2014 Beijing Auto Show. The all-new electric vehicle carries Dongfeng Yueda Kia's Horki brand and was exhibited at the Nanjing New Energy Vehicle Exhibition held in March 2014.

Qoros Auto: Qoros 3 Hatch to be launched in China

Qoros 3 Hatch  The Qoros 3 Hatchback (five-seat, five-door version) debuted in China, following the world premiere at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show in March. This is the second production model in China after the Qoros 3 Sedan (four-door version) that was released in December 2013. The hatchback will be produced at the Changshu plant, Jiangsu province, where the Qoros 3 Sedan is also produced. It will be launched in June 2014 with a starting price at CNY 120,000.
 The Qoros 3 Hatch is based on the same modular platform as the Qoros 3 Sedan. The hatchback is 4438mm long, 177mm shorter than the sedan. Other sizes are identical (1839mm wide and 1445mm high with a 2690mm wheelbase). It features the ABS+EBD, ESC, TCS, BA, CBC and LED day-light. The fuel consumption of three engine versions is 6.1-liter, 6.3-liter and 6.5-liter per 100km.
 The Qoros 3 Hatch has the same drive system as the Qoros 3 Sedan. It is driven by a 1.6-liter SQRE4G16 engine with the DVVT VIS Variable Intake System (maximum output: 93kW, maximum torque: 155Nm) or a 1.6-liter SQRE4T16 turbocharged engine (maximum output: 115kW, maximum torque: 210Nm) combined either with a 6-speed manual transmission or a 6-speed DCT transmission.

Note: The company also exhibited the eBIQE Concept, an electric motorcycle concept, at the 2014 Beijing Auto Show.

Yulon Motor: locally-built Luxgen U6 SUV

Dongfeng Yulon Motor Luxgen U6 SUV  Dongfeng Yulon Motor's strategic SUV (2-row, 5-seater, FWD version only). It is 4625mm long, 1825mm wide and 1620mm high (including roof rail) and has a 2720mm wheelbase. The SUV is built on HRSS (High Rigid Safety Structure). It is produced at the Hangzhou plant. The automaker started receiving orders in April 2014 (for CNY 128,800 to CNY 200,800).
 The Luxgen U6 SUV is driven by a 1.8-liter turbo engine (maximum output: 116kW, maximum torque 230Nm) in combination with a 5-speed automatic transmission, or a 2.0-liter turbo engine (maximum output: 132kW, maximum torque: 256kW) mated with a 6-speed automatic transmission with a manual mode. The SUV is available in 7 grades. Music and video entertainment system and the original "THINK + onboard information system" for phone communication, driving safety information, system settings and HTC smartphone are standard on six of the seven grades.
 Other standard equipment of the Luxgen U6 SUV include the front-seat airbags, ABS+EBD+BAS, BOS/EPB, anti-theft warning, and auto-controlled rearview mirror. Safety equipment include the "Active Eagle View+" system, Side View+, Dual Side View+, forward collision warning (FCW+), pedestrian detection system (PDS+) and lane departure warning system (LDWS+).
