BYD: 2nd Generation Blade Battery and Fast Charging Technology
Reduced charging time; ultra-thin, high-strength SEI film; 1,500kW fast charging
Summary
On March 5, 2026, BYD announced its 2nd Generation Blade Battery Blade Battery and corresponding fast charging technology. Innovations such as the "Lithium-Ion High-Speed Channel” technology system reduces the 10% to 70% charging time to just 5 minutes and shortens the time from 10% to 97% to 9 minutes. Furthermore, charging can be completed in 12 minutes even in extremely cold environments of minus 30°C, solving the issues of "slow charging" and "charging difficulty in low temperatures" that electric vehicles face. In addition, Flash charging with a maximum output of 1,500kW has been announced. By installing energy storage systems (ESS) for energy storage at the charging stations, the load on the grid is reduced and the charging efficiency is significantly increased.
The 2nd Generation Blade Battery Blade Battery will be initially installed in a total of 10 models from the following brands: Denza, Dynasty, Ocean, Fang Cheng Bao, and Yangwang. BYD also announced its "Flash Charging China" strategy, which aims to accelerate the deployment of high-power charging infrastructure by building approximately 20,000 Flash charging stations throughout China by the end of 2026.
For this report, MarkLines covered a technology presentation held in Shenzhen and has compiled a summary of new technologies related to battery electrode reconstruction and fast charging.
