Hybrid and Non-Terrestrial Connectivity Architectures for Future Automotive Mobility
Introduction
The GSMA Mobile World Congress Barcelona (MWC™ Barcelona) is an annual four-day event organized by the GSM Association. The 2026 edition, marking the 20th anniversary of the event in Barcelona, was held at the Fira Gran Via exhibition venue from March 2 to March 5, 2026.

MWC™ Barcelona brings together participants from across the mobile ecosystem and related industries, including mobile network operators, technology vendors, automotive suppliers, startups, investors, and policymakers. The event serves as a platform to present and discuss developments in mobile communications, digital technologies, and industry-related policies.
MWC26 marked the launch of the GSMA’s “IQ Era,” highlighting the growing role of intelligent connectivity in technology and business transformation.
The program was organized around six core themes: Intelligent Infrastructure, ConnectAI, AI for Enterprise, AI Nexus, Tech4All, and Game Changers. New feature areas included New Frontiers for emerging technologies, Airport of the Future, which showcased connected aviation solutions in cooperation with Airbus and Outsight, and CircuitX, focusing on smart mobility.

The 2026 edition of MWC™ Barcelona brought together approximately 2,900 exhibitors and nearly 105,000 attendees from 207 countries and territories.
This report consists of three parts.
This is Part One, which covers 5GAA presentations and industry contributions at MWC 2026, highlighting perspectives from satellite service providers, network infrastructure vendors, semiconductor suppliers, and automotive Tier-1 suppliers on the deployment of hybrid and satellite-enabled connectivity for future vehicles.
Part two addresses standards-based test and validation contributions from selected 5GAA associate members, focusing on compliance with evolving automotive and non-terrestrial network requirements.
Part Three covers additional automotive-related exhibits and technologies featured at the congress.
Next year’s MWC™ Barcelona will take place from 1-4 March 2027.
