Summary

  The digitalization of cars opens up new business opportunities for both OEMs and other players in the ecosystem.

  Digital payments are already well established in everyday life. They are very convenient because they enable faster transactions and increase consumer satisfaction.

  Together with platform providers, fintech companies and service providers, OEMs have now started implementing in-car payment systems in their latest vehicles to keep up with this trend.

  This embedded solution enables vehicle occupants to carry out transactions at the touch of a button on the in-vehicle infotainment display without leaving their vehicle.

  This report looks at the technical requirements to implement such systems in a car and at each player enabling the in-car payment ecosystem.

  In addition, it addresses some of the use cases and highlights OEMs, that are at the forefront of the implementation of this technology.

  The report is split in two parts. This is part one, which addresses the technical enablers, use cases and leading OEMs in Europe.

  Part two will look at the ecosystem players, enabling the implementation of this technology in the car and gives an outlook on what is expected to come next.
