Carbon Neutral Products and Materials (3): Energy Saving and CO2 Reduction
Waste heat utilization, power saving devices, CO2 emissions visualization system
Summary
The automotive industry is strengthening its efforts toward carbon neutrality throughout the supply chain. At trade shows held in Japan, initially from around 2022, automobile manufacturers and major suppliers began to introduce their initiatives in presentations, and gradually, carbon neutral-related products and activities were displayed in the exhibition booths of each company. Recently, the initiatives of each company have expanded to Scope 1 ~ 3 CO2 emissions (Note: One of the standards for calculating and reporting greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions), and various examples are being introduced in the areas of parts, materials, and energy.
This report will focus on carbon neutral exhibits that MarkLines Co., Ltd. has covered over the past year such as waste heat utilization, power-saving devices, and systems for visualizing CO2 emissions. Each company has established its own carbon neutrality plan and is working to reduce CO2 emissions and energy costs as well as to save power at its factories and offices. At the exhibition, examples of energy consumption monitoring and energy-saving systems that use waste heat are introduced. In addition, an increasing number of support tools and consulting services are being introduced to help companies visualize and report CO2 emissions so as to calculate their carbon footprint (CFP) and obtain carbon neutral (CN) certification.
