By Chinese group, SAIC Motor Group continued to lead the market, but its market share decreased from 18.1% last year to 15.3%, partly due to the sales decline of three of its joint ventures with overseas-based automakers.   In the passenger car market, sales by Chinese automakers increased by 23.3% y/y to 6.121 million units, accounting for more than half of the total. All Japanese-affiliated automakers, with the exception of Isuzu, posted year-over-year declines, with sales volume of 1.749 million units and market share falling to 15.5%. Ford and the Hyundai Motor Group are in the process of reviewing their strategies in China.

Sales of NEVs, (New Energy Vehicles: battery electric vehicles (EVs), plug-in hybrids (PHV) and fuel cell vehicles (FCV)) in H1 2023 were 3.747 million units, up 44.1% from the same period last year.
