Vienna Motor Symposium 2023 (3) Powering the future: drive systems and energy

Audi/Porsche electric platform, BorgWarner hydrogen engine technology

Summary

The International Vienna Motor Symposium, organized by the Austrian Society of Automotive Engineers (ÖVK), was held for the 44th time this year. As is tradition, it took place at the Hofburg in Vienna, Austria from April 26th to 28th, and was attended by more than 1,000 participants from many different countries. For the first time since the outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic, the event could be attended by participants from Asian countries again.

Over 80 presentations could be attended in three parallel sessions. Further in-depth video lectures were held in "virtual sessions" on the web platform during the event.

At this annual event, experts from automotive OEMs and component suppliers and academics come together to exchange opinions on future climate-neutral drive solutions.

Main topics of this year's symposium were current trends in drive systems, energy sources for mobility and the co-existence of batteries, fuel cell and combustion engines.

Besides driveline technologies, topics such as charging technologies, autonomous driving and connectivity were addressed as well.

The full agenda of lectures can be viewed on the official website (https://wiener-motorensymposium.at/en/programme/technical-programme) and the conference documents – also for previous symposia - can be ordered here (https://wiener-motorensymposium.at/en/conference-documents).

On the evening of the first day and during break time, participants had the opportunity to visit 45 booths at the accompanying trade exhibition. Suppliers, service and solution providers, research institutes and engineering consultancy companies showcased their latest products, technologies and concepts.

In the outside area participants were offered the opportunity to take a close look at the latest technologies in vehicles on display and experience these with a test drive.
