The 20th Shanghai International Automobile Industry Exhibition (Shanghai Motor Show 2023 / Auto Shanghai 2023) was held at the National Exhibition and Convention Center (Shanghai) from April 18 to 27, 2023. April 18-19 were press days, April 20-21 industry trade days, and April 22-27 for the general public. This was the first major motor show held in China since the restrictions due to the COVID-19 pandemic were completely lifted, and a total of more than 1,000 companies exhibited. With 13 indoor exhibition halls, the total exhibition space was over 360,000 square meters. The vehicle exhibition area featured 1,200 models, of which 271 were New Energy Vehicle (NEV) models and 186 were NEV models from Chinese automakers.

This report introduces the NEV (battery electric vehicle, plug-in hybrid, fuel cell vehicle) models and new trends exhibited by China's emerging EV manufacturers: Hozon Auto, NIO, Li Auto, Xpeng, Leapmotor, and Human Horizons. Hozon New Energy Automobile Co., Ltd. (Hozon Auto) launched the Neta GT electric sports car, NIO, Inc. (NIO) unveiled the new ES6 electric SUV, Xpeng the G6 electric coupe SUV, and Human Horizons the luxury electric SUV, HiPhi Y. Li Auto Inc. (Li Auto) announced its "Dual Capability strategy" and 4C ultra-fast charging stations, and plans to build more than 3,000 4C supercharging stations by 2025. In addition, Baidu, Inc. (Baidu) exhibited an Apollo smart cockpit advanced technology experience vehicle equipped with a large scale language model, the Chinese version of the ChatGPT, the Ernie Bot.
