The International Vienna Motor Symposium, being organized by the Austrian Society of Automotive Engineers (ÖVK), was held for the 43rd time this year. It took place at the Hofburg in Vienna, Austria from April 27th to 29th, and was attended by around 900 participants from 26 countries.
More than 70 presentations were held in three parallel sessions, one of which was virtual and could be attended by people who couldn't make it in person.
The event brings together executives and experts from the automotive industry, research institutes and universities, specialized in the field of vehicle drive technology, to jointly discuss future-oriented developments for sustainable mobility and how to tackle the decarbonization issue.
The focus of this year's symposium was on the transformation towards carbon neutral mobility. Besides topics such as CO2 neutral energy and de-fossilization, eFuels, hydrogen combustion engines, fuel cells, electrification of the traction motors and energy storage facilities, also autonomous driving and exhaust-gas aftertreatment solutions as well as new transmission technologies were discussed.

On the evening of the first day and during break time, participants had the opportunity to visit 41 booths at the accompanying trade exhibition. Suppliers, service and solution providers, research institutes and engineering consultancy companies showcased their latest products, technologies and concepts.
In the outside area participants was offered the possibility to take a close look at the latest technologies in vehicles on display and experience these by having a test drive.

The conference was opened by Prof. Dr. Bernhard Geringer from Vienna University of Technology Mobility.
He pointed out that regarding decarbonization the focus should not be on requirements and laws, but on solutions and that it is important to put ideas into practice.
The first conference day was closed by a podium discussion on the future of automotive technology.
The event was closed by a speech of Prof. Dr. Helmut Eichlseder, representative chairman of the Austrian Society of Automotive Engineers (ÖVK), who stressed that renewable energy supply will play a decisive role on the way to the overall decarbonization of mobility.
The next event will be held from April 26th to 28th, 2023. Proposals for papers can be submitted between July and September 2022.
This is the second part of the event report, which highlights a selection of the technical lectures.
The first part gives a summary of all four keynotes of the opening plenary session and the closing keynote by Volkswagen. Further, it contains an outline of the panel discussion on the powertrain of the future, which was held at the end of the first lecture day.
